Tell me how many full 90 minutes he played?.He didn't play at all for the last few months,so if this is the type of player we are after along with Phillips to be our main midfielders then God help us. Then accusing me of being a pig for having an opinion,
Most Blades on this forum can spell Bramall Lane
I actually live just off Bramhall Lane,Stockport, clever two hat.

Do you mean he didn't start at all? Because he played in just about all the games in the last few months.
He wasn't picked to start for the final 2 games.

As for lasting 90 minutes though I think he was always brought off around 65 mins in. Did he complete a full 90 last season?
Not sure he did last 90 mins.Surely we need players who can last 90 mins.Hopefully Arblaster will be back to his best, which will take a bit of pressure off.

Did he complete a full 90 last season?

Not sure he did last 90 mins.
According to transfermarkt he completed 3 full matches: Wednesday (A), Stoke (A) and Leicester (H). He got injured after the Leicester game, and when he came back he made 11 more appearances. 6 times he lasted over an hour, 3 of those occasions he stayed on past 70mins. 3 sub appearances where he played less than 20 minutes, once was subbed on at half time (Blackburn (H)), and one game where he started and didn't reach the hour mark (Swansea (H) - subbed on 59mins).

These aren't abnormal by any means - it's typical to see midfielders subbed on/off to try and change the game. But the bigger issue is that because we don't have another player who does the same things as Jairo, when he does go off it leaves a void in the middle of the park that no other player is able to fill.

If we can lay our hands on another DM who is similar - a decent ball-winner, with a modest passing range - then it would be a complete non-issue. We either need to do that, or ensure that Jairo can last through a full game.

Sideways and backwards footballer. Has a nice touch but doesn't influence a game unless he's slowing it down and that's the last thing we need. He's like an old bloke exercising his dog in the park, has to sit on a bench rolling the ball for it rather than lob it some distance and having a little jot after it.

Too slow, too 'safe', makes us even more fucking boring than we already are in nine out of every ten games. Sadly he has all the hallmarks to be a perfect Wilder signing.

Look, when Jairo arrived last season he was everything we needed in the middle of the park, his influence was there for all to see. But we have to remember at the time it was a very low bar.
I feel we need to find our talisman centre midfielder from somewhere else.

When we got Doyle on loan he suited us and we suited him. When we gave him more game time it was his influence that made all the difference that season. He's not done a great deal since leaving so could he be the one? Who knows, it's always a gamble but I'd definitely take a punt on him ahead of Riedewald or Rothwell.

Nick Butt was also accused of being 'sideways and backards'. It's odd then, that Beckham, Scholes and Fergie, considered him to be such a key part of the team.

If true you cant make it up can you, question is who is more likely to last longer than 60 mins for say 35 games per season, Jairo, Phillips or neither?

If its neither shouldn't we be looking for a more robust player who can?

If someone has the energy and athleticism to play 90 minutes every game in the Championship (outside of positions such as centre back and keeper where there is much less effort expended), they will likely get an offer to play at a higher level where they only need to play 60-70 and/or rotate. Game has changed - we have 5 subs now and if you look back even as little as 20 years ago the game looks like walking football compared to today.

Please tell me you aren't comparing an injury prone bit part footballer who didn't really shine in a below average Championship team to Nicky Butt 😱

I reckon i'll go do some gardening. Too many gloom merchants on here. Wish i could see into the future like some of these posters.
BTW, i think we will have a good season.
I know we all have different opinions but Jesus, anyone would think the world is coming to an end with some on here

I've just been out to do some for the same reason.
2 seasons ago we were probably in a worse position, needing to bring in around 14 players IMS.
Wilder got us 92 points that season, with PA trying to sell the club (-2) and hence probably limited finance available.
I thought we would struggle that season, with having to rebuild an entire squad..

Still let's Unite around the club and help push things forward, or just type negativity and try to force all the fans into a spiral of doom and gloom .

Last season we could have ended up relegated, but Wilder and the owners see zero credit for rescuing us from that potential disaster.

We 'deserve' Champions league football not Championship. The problem is that reality gets in the way.

If Jairo does return, it won't be his job to be the creative attacking force in our midfield. He'll be there to protect the back four and stop us conceding. Which he does very well and you only have to look at the stats to see how many we conceded with him on the pitch vs. without, to see that he's extremely good in this role.
I still think there's a place for him in our team, but he needs to be paired with some pace out wide and a more creative, box to box type in midfield. Selling Brooks hasn't filled me with confidence that this will happen though.

Yes the game is faster but the players are fitter faster and better athletes all round

When wilder brought all of those players in we did have a vastly different budget it will be interesting who he brings in and what quality and also who we let go.

Apparently re-signing- as Phillips is crocked again (thigh this time) only what I have been told
If you believe this website the thigh injury was what put him out for end of our season.

Then May 24th in training "Calf/Shin/Heel Injury" take your pick. :D
