Apparently re-signing- as Phillips is crocked again (thigh this time) only what I have been told
If true although we probably won't know, I bet we would have got him cheaper on the one year contract extension rather than signing from fresh. I know that sounds like a proper negative comment but for me Jairo even if just for the hour he was available, controlled the game and gave us the chance to develop a stronger defence and try and get ahead. I know managers have their favourites (even though Jairo was a Wilder signing) but I don't understand the obsession with Phillips, even on a heavily subsidised wage he hasn't got the match minutes to make the impact we need.

If he re-signs we ain't half going to have some egg on our face.

I was happy to see him stay, but I did understand the thinking of punting on Phillips. Be surprised that he would be happy to sign for us to be honest.
Then again we don't know how everything has gone down...

I could see this happening irrespective of whether Phillips signs or not. It doesnt have to be one or the other, though financial constraints suggest it could be. And as i have alluded to today under the Phillips thread, there is a possibility that we had the extension option at too high price wages wise and have tried to negotiate. The agent said no. We said goodbye, but if you change your mind re negotiation on the wages we may still be prepared to offer a contract. Maybe the player and his agent are the ones backpeddling and wanting the club to come back to the table after reflecting and thiking they quite liked life at the Lane afterall.

Of course it could just be SUFC who are imcompetent, but it always amazes me just how many Blades 'fans' on here are so quick to jump to the conclusion that its United's or Wilders fault for everything that doesnt come off first time. Maybe its a bit of both in the tooing and froing of contract negotiations and its no one's 'fault' other than both parties wanting to see what else is out there before they commit any further. I do recall it being implied at the time that we announced his release that Jairo might still be a SUFC player later in the summer...

A sensible move if he signs andi this k it's wise to not sign Phillips bearing in mind that he will be on big money and can't stay fit.

Tell me how many full 90 minutes he played?.He didn't play at all for the last few months,so if this is the type of player we are after along with Phillips to be our main midfielders then God help us. Then accusing me of being a pig for having an opinion that doesn't match yours !! FFS what a mushroom.

Most Blades on this forum can spell Bramall Lane

Do you mean he didn't start at all? Because he played in just about all the games in the last few months.
He wasn't picked to start for the final 2 games.

As for lasting 90 minutes though I think he was always brought off around 65 mins in. Did he complete a full 90 last season?

When you say he didn’t play at all in the last few months, in the last month of the season, he played 5 of the last 7.

Apology accepted.

I reckon i'll go do some gardening. Too many gloom merchants on here. Wish i could see into the future like some of these posters.
BTW, i think we will have a good season.

The club is in a mess!! last season they got rid of Wilder then asked him to come back, then told Riedewald they weren't taking up his contract to extend..now they want to sign him, more like Philips not coming back and weve probably sold Peck on the quite.....ffs get this shambles sorted 🤬

Also remembering with Jairo his season started in Mid-October for us, the classic he will do well with a preseason under his belt was a quote made for Jairo, even Phillips who was training with Man City when he came to us and when played it was said that he was being used for 60-65 minutes and that was his minutes plan. Jairo had a similar either start until 60 or come on at 60 to the end, depending on our formations using our midfielders we should be able to juggle some players, especially now we have the 5 subs. When we played well, we played a high up hard pressing game, I would rather have a Jairo that can play 60-65 mins per match for 30 odd games a season rather than a 60 mins Phillips for 2 matches.
