Jags as Manager?

• Understands the Championship & Premier League
• Experience of European & International football
• Played, Captained & Coached under good managers - Warnock, Moyes, Martinez, Koeman & Wilder.
• Probably has a good 'contact book' in the game to aid recruitment
• Will "get" the club and fan expectations

It's an outfield suggestion, but I'd rather someone like Jags (if willing) get a go over a Lennon, Pardew etc.

No thanks. I agree with your points for him but it's the wrong time for an appointment like that. I'm sure The Prince has someone more experienced in mind if not as part of a shortlist.

Very much needs someone with some experience for me. For whatever reason these players have dropped their heads/standards over the last 12+ months and I don't think any insider at the club will turn that around. It needs someone with some charisma and real leadership qualities for me. It's a big job trying to turn this around and needs a manager capable of a rebuilding job. Deffo not a job for a novice.

It’s just madness - major football clubs operating outside the rules of basic logic.

A role involving incredible pressure, handling a huge number of reports, and with a high failure rate... Let’s give it to someone who’s never done it before.

Personally I don't see the Prince taking that risk BUT... our fans would definitely give him a lot more support/backing than any "outsider" if we had a difficult start.

If I'm not mistaken Lampard never made it out of the championship with Derby, so not sure why you think he'd do it with us.
And he certainly didn't set the Premier league alight with all the millions to spend & star players at his disposal.

It doesn't matter what state the club is in. A rookie manager can make a bad situation worse. Look at David Weir. We might be a basket case next season.

Now is certainly not the time for a rookie. When we appear to be in freefall we need someone experienced enough to stop said freefall.

Gerrard has won the league
Rooney hasnt started too shabbily
Arteta hadnt managed before, but is doing ok

As mentioned we are at a crossroads, and therefore an experienced hand would be good, but you then get names like Hughes, Pardew, Silva, Pulis, (big Sam may be free in a few weeks!!) etc and thats a nightmare

So what we need is a young experienced coach, with knowledge of the Championship and Premiership looking ahead, good contacts book, instant respect in the dressing room who can rebuild a depleted and in some areas aging squad, who's confidence is on its arse - good luck wi that eh?!

I'd take Eddie Howe with Jags as number 2.

I think footballers default/panic choice is to go into coaching as they know the game and its a safer option then starting a whole new career, however thought Jags had a couple of business interests? plus he seems more interested in spending any spare time playing golf

Do we need to be hung up on the word "Manager" though?

Whether we like it or not, a DoF structure is coming in which will render what we once knew and called a "Manager" into effectively a "First Team Head Coach". I imagine this responsibility to be overseeing training, the playing & coaching staff and with most of the budgetary & recruitment burden being taken over by a DoF

Me too but given that he left for the same reason that Wilder left he's not likely to come is he ?
