I have the feeling that he will be good for us. You don't lose the skills that he has, it's just a case of bringing them to the fore. Over to you two, CWAK.

There are a couple of ways of looking at this.

Why hasn’t he had a club? Well could be either “values himself higher than the teams who looked to sign him” or “simply
Nobody came in for him or offered a deal”

We will never know I suppose, and it seems odd that a lad who featured a fair bit for Blackburn last season ended up leaving and not having a club for 6 months. If it’s the first option then not taking deals offered suggests he might know his worth and was waiting for the right chance to get himself back into the game at a level he believed he should be. I certainly hope it was never about money!!

Just surprised no championship clubs fancied taking him on, I mean the pigs for one who are a squad full of shite would have been just the sort of team who’d take on the wages with zero initial outlay.

But I will be keen to see what he can do, though dare I say he’s here as back up to the first team at the moment.
Maybe he’s been waiting for the right option? He’s already had one bad move to a poorly ran club, another one would effectively finish his career at the top level. Look at most of the championship clubs, they’re in a mess one way or another. He’s got a great move by waiting, he couldn’t be at a better club to make a new start.

That Sunderland documentary did considerable damage to his reputation, unlike Ravel I don’t think he had the reputation as a wastrel or trouble maker before.

it’s a shot to nothing really so if CW is happy with it fine.

Are you saying that any of the players who may "leave" could be BIG players, currently in the 1st team/squad?

Realistically we are going to get peanuts for our fringe/out-of-squad players (in Premier League terms) .If so, then that would say to me that there is very little money available to push on?

UTB

No but we won't be spending on anyone decent till then

I'm expecting a loan in from abroad next
Then see what offers are made for our players and see if they are too good to turn down

Weird signing as was the Morrison one.
Hope Rodwell has more impact but hard to see he will after not playing for months and having a career that's been going nowhere for years.

I’m more confident of this working than Morrison. He was a good player at Everton but it didn’t quite work out at Man City, these things happen. His mistake was going to a car crash club to revive his career. We’ve had him for a month and he’s already known to Jags, I’m pretty sure if he was a dickhead Jags would have told CW or we’d have found out by now after a month.
We haven’t actually received loads more money than the other PL clubs, they’ll all get £100m+ too so whilst we’re richer than we’ve ever been, we’re still relatively poor. Every other club bar Villa and Norwich have had previous years’ money to invest in their players. We have to keep doing what we’ve been doing, looking for good value signings. We don’t want to go all ‘Stoke’ and think we’re bigger than we are, nor can we afford to right now.

Just confirmed on TalkSport
I agree with that but how will we ever push on if we don’t sign better players than we already have.

Like others, I see this as a low risk, potentially high reward scenario but with a low probability of success.

Having said that, unlike Morrison, he does have reasonably extensive experience of the level. He definitely has a lot of tools so hopefully he can make it work.

I watched the Sunderland documentary & was highly sceptical of the narrative at the time. The lad's meant to just walk away from £70k a week for the club's sake? Give over.

It’s not like we’ve given him a bumper contract for 5 years like Sunderland did. And let’s be honest, any dodgy reputation JR might have is his time up there. Contract til the rest of the season to see if he’s up to scratch really isn’t warranting any moaning.

like Morrison, if we can get him at his best, we’ve fitnesses one hell of a player - it looks like we haven’t been able to do this with Morrison but there’s a bit more evidence to rely on for why Rodwell will be able to be a success here.

Welcome

We won’t much. Why would we? We’re Sheffield United, not Man City or Man U or Liverpool and the idea that we could be is pure fantasy.
I think we’ll do well to find players better than we already have and the only way we can hope to is by finding players with huge potential and developing it, like Leicester did with the likes of Kante and Vardy, they weren’t world class when they bought them, they weren’t even better than what they had, but they became better. And it’s what Rodgers has gone back to after their spell of spending money on unsuccessful signings.

Seems sensible. We are short on cover if we picked up a couple of injuries or suspensions.

We have to be a little bit wary about having too many players with iffy reputations but he seemed decent at Blackburn.

Be like Ravel. May see him in a game or two then disappear.

Rodwell scored against us at SoL in our 2 1 win in the Championship 2 seasons ago

Can't say it's an exciting signing but it's a very sensible one. Short term contract so very low risk on a player who has the potential to be a great addition to the squad.

Same as Ravel, since his name keeps cropping up, you can't judge everything on results. You have to look at what was risked against what you could've won.

If you take a fair coin flip to win a tenner at the risk of losing a pound then you didn't make a bad decision even if you lost the toss.

I said the same when I watched it before he signed for us, in front of the cameras Sunderland tried to play the victim over Rodwell. They just wanted rid of him for nothing and didn't appear to make an effort to make him an acceptable offer/compromise.

Not sure it's weird.

We have a limited budget in PL terms.

We can't go out and splash millions in January.

He's been training with us for a month so weve seen his ability and conditioning up close.

Seems a low risk gamble for me.

Alladyce managed him at Sunderland and I think he is mates with Wilder. I'd say he was a reference.

Low risk, hopefully Wilder has the measure of his attitude. Hope he does well as he could turn into an asset if he gets his head down.
