After a month's trial, Rodwell has been given the backing of of the most relevant individual in his current career.
CW has backed him with a short-term contract, and a promise of a lot more if he wants it.
The ball is squarely in Rodwell's court to initially get in the first team and then deliver when called upon.
Welcome to Bramall Lane Jack Rodwell.

So far we have been lucky with Injuries and suspensions. If we had loads then the likes of Ravel and others would have played.

Don't get this one I'm afraid. Injury prone journeyman who couldn't cut it in the champ at Blackburn or Sunderland. Probably on daft wages as well. Poor signing

Along with Jags, experienced at this level, probably knows what is needed to see a game out, if it comes to that, and I don't think he will be on daft wages, because I don't believe we have daft wages to splash around.

Just my opinion mate, not looking to argue.

McGoldrick was an injury prone journeyman once, have to give him a chance.

Also, doubt he's on daft wages considering he was on no wages previously.

Yeah because we’re going to be paying him £50K a week...

He made his money sponging off Sunderland. Bet he’ll be on one of the smallest salaries in the squad.

Suppose we'll wait and see

Prem experience. Capped for England at youth, U21 and senior levels. Still only 28. Costs us nowt in transfer fees. Presumably desperate for another shot at the big time. Has shown Wilder and Knill enough over a period of time on trial. Offers cover in several positions, including areas where cover is currently thin.

Can’t see the down side to this one, myself. Maybe I’m too easily pleased.

Not sure it's weird.

We have a limited budget in PL terms.

We can't go out and splash millions in January.

He's been training with us for a month so weve seen his ability and conditioning up close.

Seems a low risk gamble for me.

Be very surprising if we couldn't go out and splash millions in January given the income from the PL.
Maybe Rodwell will turn his career around and suddenly become a good player again but he seems to be just like Morrison, someone who's got rich and famous early and then wasted his career.

Be like Ravel. May see him in a game or two then disappear.

Based on exactly what?

We are all entitled to our opinions, but maybe the odd justification would help. Ravel was a serial underachiever, starting with SAF. Rodwell was great at Everton, couldn't get into a Citeh side flush with cash and spunking muneh left right and centre, then injured at the Mackems. I really don't see any parallel, other than both being 'big' media names for lazy journalists.

Agree with this entirely. Rodwell’s major problem was hanging around on £70k at Sunderland when he should have left to revive his career, prior to this he was a decent player at Everton and signed for biggish money at Man City.

Morrison has never had a decent contract because he’s never backed the promise up with action.

I get what you’re saying, but I highly doubt many would give up that sort of money easily, knowing it’s unlikely they’ll earn those sums again in their relatively short career.

Not sure about that. I bet he was on decent £ at West Ham and later at Lazio.

He must have something about him, you don't play for the clubs he's played for if you're so bad. I personally think this is going to be a good move

Exactly!

"Come and play for us lad!, 70 thousand pounds a week, guaranteed for five years!"

"wow, thanks, where do I sign!"

<a bit later on>

"er...sorry lad, we totally made a balls up of the planning, the strategy and the finance"

"sorry to hear that"

"yes it's all a bit embarrassing to be honest, we thought we would be a top team for years and never gave any thought to it all going wrong, totally unprepared for it"

"sounds bad, what's the plan?"

"oh that bit's simple, we just need you to leave and let us off with the money we promised"

"eh?"

"Well, either that or take a massive pay cut, I mean, I know it's not your fault at all, but it would help us all out of a tight spot, if you just let us pay you next to nothing, or better still, nothing, just rip up that contract and forget all our hollow words"

"er.....can't do that really, that would be stupid"

"true, but you would be doing us a huge favour"

Do a bit of mental arithmetic. What we are defo getting in, less what we have spent already, and what we are committed to spending this season.
We cannot splash millions anywhere, even if, as seems likely, we will keep our PL status this season. Sorry if this comes as a surprise to you.

You're right. There's the small matter of raising funds to buy out McCabe's assets by July - that's £50M minimum - including the stadium, the training ground, the hotel, the offices, Fenchurch Street Railway Station and The Angel Islington.

If he could have gone to another club, played and earned £50k a week I doubt he’d have starved. I don’t know the circumstances and the Sunderland documentary might well have been filmed with bias but the choice presented was “leave and we can keep some of the admin staff on”. He chose to stay.

I’ll trust Wilder to judge his character though, he’s worked with him.
