According to Stan Collymore Arsenal should be more like us, "great" you might think but no, we don't have an iota of the talent or ability of Arsenal but we're physically strong and are a good bunch of lads. It then goes on to Vinnie Jones.

Not saying we've got a Lacazette or Aubameyang like but our defenders would shit from a great height on the pillocks that play for Arsenal. Chris Wilder would drive Mustafi to the job centre after one training session.

I thought it'd take a while before the "cloggers" accusations would start coming in to be honest, the season previews at the earliest.

And to think that article started so well.

Can't wait to surprise a few of these 'experts'.

I guess it's nice going up not being scared of the utter wet wipes that are Arsenal though.

Not a huge fan of Stan or his mostly ignorant rants, but it's the author who's linked Vinny Jones to us not Collymore.
He's just talking about our strong dressing room, and in that regard he's right. That camaraderie and team spirit is going to be our greatest weapon next season.

We're seeing a fair few sensitive flowers taking umbridge at any perceived slight. We'll get plenty of genuine ones next season, so you don't really need to go looking for them now.

I get what you're saying but our defenders havent seen the Prem yet. And I feel like Mustafi could probably handle the Championship pretty well.

I think we'll do ok in that department but wd havent proved anything yet

In truth it was Bassett who linked non-footballer Jones to us by signing him. When will people realise we (well, he) brought this upon ourselves? The legacy goes on.

Think some people are reading more into that article than is actually said, the only bit I'd disagree about is that we don't have an iota of the talent Arsenal have, we don't have their level of talent but we do have talented players.

Most teams have a 'legacy' of some sort
Leeds 'gamesmanship' under Revie
'Boring' Arsenal under George Graham.

It's irrelevant.

This stuff is really frustrating. Not only this but other crap that's already cropped up.

It's not a fair reflection on our team and does us a disservice.

People obviously can't get their heads around it being possible to have a 'crazy bunch' like ours and also be quite good at football.

But..... there's a good possibility these ignorants will feel vindicated next season. Because we'll put more emphasis on being solid, less on being spectacular. That's already started and it's got us promoted. It will continue next season and the 'experts' will remain forever oblivious about the sort of football that laid the foundation to get us where we are.

I expect 'workmanlike' rather than 'long ball'. But this time it will at least be based on watching us a bit.

The only thing that might rescue us is if a centre half overlaps once to set up a goal.....

In fairness to collymore he never said we were cloggers, he said that arsenal should have more hard workers with a team ethic like we have, he went on to say that arsenal should have a tough character in midfield like a Roy Keane or vinnie Jones type he never referenced us saying we played that way, so I think some people are getting paranoid

Personally I'd like to think that the management and coaching staff of all the Prem teams also had a misguided out of date view of how we go about things. That way we'd surprise the crap out of them and be safe by Christmas. Unfortunately, I think they are a bit more professional than that and will be aware of how we play and will try to counter it.

We have a first rate management team ourselves and providing they receive a decent level of support from whoever the owners turn out to be I think we are in with a good chance of staying up. Obviously, the following season if we don't get in the top four they can sod off and we'll get some exotic bloke in who can't speak English but that'll be fine because the players won't be able to either. :)

Jones was an arsehole for the cultivated 'hard man' image, but most sensible people wouldn't deny he helped us stay up that season. We only had 4 points at Christmas, but Vinnie was part of the group that kept belief that we could survive.

Of course some supercilious parts of our support base can't accept this.

Only in S2.....

The legacy doesn't go away though when they belittle us constantly.

Sheffield Wednesday, Wimbledon, Leicester, Cambridge and in a slightly more sophisticared way Arsenal themselves under George Graham were the pioneers of the long ball, direct, up and at 'em style of football.

But it's all forgotten about with those teams but gets re-hashed every time somebody talks about us.
