Is this bloke any good?

It's as though some haven't watched us for 18 months.

Imho no manager is going to come in and make notable improvements without being able to bring new players in.

The squad we have is simply limited in how we can set up, especially in this league.

We don't have big physical midfielders at our disposal, or big strong strikers who can win the ball higher up and then play from there.

We either set up like yesterday and maybe look tighter defensively but maybe not create too much, or play like we have and create more but look more like conceding.

This is nothing like the Robson scenario.

Why not give a proven manager time to at least have a chance. Sack Slav and the next manager is an even bigger gamble unless you're one of those who is already talking about just stopping up.

Yes SJ is crap !!!!
Until he goes somewhere normal and proves that he isn't crap.

Is there a football club anywhere on the planet that gets such a shit return from so called good and expensive players, and gets so much good out of fucking carthorses.

Either way it's fucking boring 100% of the time

Good players who can't be arsed to train properly, condition themselves properly and have a losing mentality is boring to watch.

Carthorses trying hard with very little ability is boring as well.

Club might as well just fuck off and die to be honest, every single thing it does is wrong because every aspect of the place is disjointed and shabbily put together

I don’t think it has anything to do with the manager.
Should experienced players need a manager to motivate them ? If so I think it’s time they retired.
Motivation just happens to be one of THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of management..........if a Manager can't do that then it's time he retired!

I disagree in the way it is being suggested( although perhaps not by you). Many want a blood and thunder man on the touch line, but motivation can come from believing that your manager is good and wanting to achieve the maximum for him.
There are some who are simply not open to any form of motivation and if they cannot self motivate then there is not much that can be done other than replacing them.

The Youtube video showing them in training prior to the Coventry game I found very worrying; it begs the question as to whether the players buy into his methods. If they don't then I fear by the time this manager gets players in who do we'll be in League 1.

they showed more enthusiasm and fight under hecky
Did they really ? There wins against teams with nothing to play for Burnley dead rubber
Everton nowt to play for season over and probably our best performance ( bar manure )
Brighton nicked it

Came good with fulfum after a poor start, stated to pick up, about.............

The players need to give themselves a good long look and watch the matches back and say to themselves is this really the best I can do ?

Did we play better last 20 due to Slavs decisions and instructions or as a result of Coventrys changes?

I'm not sure how you can blame the performances on the manager at this point. They were abysmal and genuinely laughable last season, they're seemingly carrying on the same effort, desire and pride in the shirt. The sooner folk drop the "Stevens has been shite for two years, but he'll come good" the better. They're busted flushes, every. Single. One. I'd much rather sprinkle a few U23s' in the squad. Yeah, we might get tonked a few games. But they'd be willing to "die for three points"

Probably a bit of both.
We had a player on who has a serious well-developed footballing brain and skills far in excess of most of the squad put together, who was able to link play from a pretty static midfield and start to get things moving up front. So, instead of Coventry being able to put 3 or 4 men around any one of our pretty static midfield players they started to have something to think about defensively for a change and dropped back to cover. This gave space (and much needed inspiration/motivation) for Hourihane in particular to get his arse in gear.

As I said, a bit of both. I don’t disagree with what you say.

They did though take Hamer off who didn’t stop running and put us under pressure constantly, Gyoekeres held the ball up really well and brought players in to the game, moving Coventry up the pitch on a number of occasions, once these two went off it coincided with a change of momentum.

I still think we should’ve won overall despite Coventry looking the better and more mobile team for most of the game, we had by far the better chances and a lot of people seem to be forgetting this.

Due to Coventry's changes I'd say. McGoldrick didn't make any impression until Coventry changed shape and didn't press us so much as they had all game. We don't play fast enough to beat even a moderate press it is all pass it about at the back until someone eventually has to lump a high ball to Billy Sharp with predicted results.

Beginning to think SJ peaked at Watford and Fulham and now like most of our players, he is on a downward spiral. Baffled by his formations, selections & subs. Why play Sharp as a lone striker? Sharp is too slow & small. Why bring on Osborn with Brewster & Freeman on the bench? Go and win the game. Bring on offensive players. Why has he only now realized what Basham brings to the team? Why play Brewster on the wing? Tactically, why do we play slowly & consistently recycle the ball backwards and sideways. Why is there a total lack of movement up-front. We are not stretching formations and creating space. Why is there a lack of good honest desire and passion from start to finish! Etc, etc, etc

The guy doesn’t appear to be a motivator, able to inspire and lead. From his interviews, comes over as deep thinker and serious. Makes you wonder how, or if he connects with the players? Because on thing is for sure. He ain’t connecting with most supporters. Speaks in riddles, command of English is poor, and his football like his personality is dull! Worrying.
We have been treated to the best manager in years everyone who comes after him was always going to get this. If CW got 11/10 out of these players another manager would never hit the same levels as they aren’t his players etc. Have to stick with him so that he can get his own players and push them to their max.

My take is he needed a managers job in England and he brought his mate in for a few cameo appearances and then got his medical issues sorted with ankle op. He’s not fussed about getting us up cause he knows he won’t get backed in JTW just like he didn’t in last window. He can fail with honour, get sacked and get a pay off. Meanwhile Adlène Guédioura will be over his rehab and out of his 12 month contract to retire.

Apart from all that tough hrs fine

What was blatantly obvious on Saturday was that if McGoldrick or MGW didn't create something then we were fucked.

We need more than 2 players in the team at a given moment who are capable of producing something meaningful.

Can anybody explain why brewster didn't play, after breaking his duck...

Scored a cracker, got dropped.. He must really be confused on what he needs to do now.

Had a read at his programme notes from Saturday. A couple of things stand out:

“The plan for the last 2 weeks was to take ourselves to a higher level” – Really? This 1st half on Saturday was pretty low IMO

“These are important weeks to build confidence” – The players look as short on confidence as Ive ever seen since Adkins

“We have to be more responsible, quicker, more solid and give 100% all the time” – Worrying he thinks the players are not giving 100% and to call that out in public…..question is why?

Also heard that he has the players coming in every day which allegedly isn’t going down very well amongst many. Maybe that’s a players issue but surely the key is getting the very best out of these players. These players look frustrated and miserable.

Whatever you think about Wilder he was a motivator – he had a connection with the fans and the players and had the respect of the players even if they werent the right players. Slav doesn’t strike me as a motivator – maybe it’s the players but sadly we are not in the luxurious position of selling the squad for millions and replacing it with ‘Slavs Team’

Look at how awfully unbalanced is squad is first. You ask why he's playing Brewster on the wing when the answer is simply because he doesn't have any actual wingers and the board didn't get him any.

Sharp has been playing as a lone striker as he's been the best of the lot this season and last, the others don't offer anything like as much as he does.

Changing the manager will do us no good at all, we'll still be left with this group of players who simply aren't good enough.

To be fair, I’d have the twats in overnight too, until they bust a gut for the team from minute one, most players have been pathetic in their efforts.
