Good point, and I imagine duty is a large reason they all hold on to the royal title.

Harry has walked away from his public role as a royal, but he has chosen to move into a new limelight. If he just went to live in Doncaster with a normal lass, I'm sure the scrutiny would largely dissappear.

It absolutely wouldn't. There would be people following him everywhere trying to get a photo of him. That's like saying when footballers retire they get absolutely no public attention.

Efl and pl could still decide to postpone

Whether she wanted to or not isn't the point. There were many things that she absolutely wouldn't have been able to do even if she wanted to. That isn't freedom.
I totally respect your view, however I'm of the opinion that freedom, choice and luxury and we, normal people, know them are not things she wanted. I would argue that it's essential for her to separate herself, and be separated, from the lower classes in order to maintain the very system that put her there. Letting go of one means letting go of the other, as we've seen with Harry and Meghan.

While QE was born into that 'system', there were hundreds of choices, decisions and opportunities to do things differently.

Footballers do get less public attention once they retire, though admittedly they will still get stopped for pics etc. Walked past Kell Brook with his kid outside the Lane recently, he sat with the fans and managed alright.

But again, it's not about what she wanted it's about what she was allowed to do. She absolutely wasn't allowed to do many of things that us 'normal people' can do.

As I said, her life and the things she was required to do as the Queen, regardless of whether she actually wanted to do them, wasn't my idea of luxury.

I agree, but you're looking at it through your own eyes.

If you think there were many things she wanted to do but couldn't, I would highlight that there are a million things she did that you and I couldn't, whether you wanted to or not.

I do now understand where you're coming, but we're almost talking about her as if she was a prisoner.

Less isn't 'disappear', like you said. Comparing Kell Brook isn't exactly a great comparison with the Queen. If Cristiano Ronaldo retired tomorrow do you think the scrutiny he gets will disappear. I don't. And he chose that life

No it isn't. Not being able to afford to do something isn't anywhere near the same as not being allowed to do something.
That is exactly my point!

So your contention that the fact the queen couldn’t pop to Tesco’s or down the pub is not, in any way, a restriction of freedom when compared with the restrictions imposed by, say, poverty. My point is I think you are using the term freedom too casually. Some people could afford to build their own supermarket and pub if they really wanted it (Ed Sheeran I believe built his own pub on his estate!). Freedom is about the amount of choices and options that are on offer to you, not about the things you can’t do. The way of the world is wealth and privilege opens up choices and options, it doesn’t restrict them

That isn't what I've said, you're ignoring the very point I've just made. I've no idea what she wanted to do but you cannot deny there are things she absolutely couldn't do whether she wanted to or not. We have a choice in what we do with our lives, for a large part she didn't.

I'm not at all talking about her as if she was a prisoner, I haven't even suggested that. I'm saying her life wasn't my idea of luxury.

How long does this take there are probably hundreds if not up to 1000 Sunderland fans waiting to go to Millwall for tomorrow's match not to mention the rest of them making plans for tomorrow

I really hope the game goes ahead.
If it does, I'd urge everyone in attendance to show a bit of decorum and observe the minutes silence.
I'm not a royalist myself, I might even just wait at the back of the kop until the game kicks off.

I'll call it now, it won't happen (if the game goes ahead). People seem to be incapable of silences these days and it always turns into applause. It's even a struggle on Remembrance Day.

Seen it so many times. A silence has been requested, then five seconds in some twat starts clapping because he can't follow a simple instruction, a few sheep join in, and then it's too loud to shush the claps so everybody has to awkwardly join in.

It's frustrating because applause is the complete opposite of silence. Still being used as a mark of respect, yes, but it wasn't what was asked for. Clap where applause has been requested, be quiet when silence has been requested. It's not hard.

So the Queen not being allowed to do something isn't a restriction of freedom? If the police, for example, stopped you leaving your house tonight when you wanted to go out would you not see that as a restriction of your freedom? If you had to go places for the rest of your life with an entourage of body guards would you not see that as a restrictions of your freedom?

If you're using personal wealth as a measure of freedom then surely you think that absolutely nobody, except a few, are free? I can't afford to buy myself a yacht and sail around the world for the rest of my life, does that mean I don't have the freedom to make choices and do things that could eventually allow me to do that? Absolutely not. Not being able to build your own pub doesn't mean you don't have freedom. What a truly ridiculous suggestion 🤣

"if he just went to live in Doncaster with a normal lass"

Let me just stop you there........

If you're saying she didn't have the choice to become Queen, or fulfil the duties and responsibilities that brings with it, a) she did and b) neither did you or I. She was absolutely unanswerable to anyone. Who would she have been disobeying had she made a different choice? If it's implied that she was dictated to, I certainly disagree with that.

Having restricted freedom and choice makes someone a prisoner. If that's true for her, then aren't we all living lives limited by choices and permissions? I'm not sure why that's something to be sympathetic about, especially as she was absolutely on the end of the stick without shit on it.

I'm getting tired of repeating myself and you just ignoring what I'm saying. I really can't be bothered any more.

Let's face it, there's nothing to make a noise about at Man' United games Lol

Ignoring the whole "I am lazy and must have an on the pitch excuse in order to create atmosphere" argument that most of our fans have, them starting Ronaldo and Maguire would have been enough to elicit rage you would think

Looks like rugby decided to go ahead based on govt guidance
