Injuries

Has Brewster been filmed on any of the recent training videos? Sadly, he can't be relied upon to be fit, it's harsh but if he's sustained another serious injury than presumably he'll not be included in the 25 men squad till January at least.

Yeah, exactly. Little only joined last summer didn’t he?

I think so. Nothing has really changed. We always seem to have 5 or more players injured at any given time.

What puzzles me is how players who finished the season fit returned and got injured in pre-season.

The only excuse the club has regarding bad luck is the illnesses. Anel and Arblaster and now Jebbison.
That’s not entirely correct.

Fleck - broken leg
Lowe - damaged his foot on a water sprinkler at Derby
McBurnie - bruised foot

None of those has anything to do with anything other than luck.

Fleck - should never have been renewed, given his recent injury history and loss of form. That is not bad luck, it’s appalling judgment.

The other two are not the clubs fault, though they are of course part of the group (along with Brewster, fleck and Jebbison) who you can put your house on being injured for weeks at a time.

Bang on re Fleck. A lot of us were telling anyone else who would listen on here at the time that this was a ridiculous decision by the club for the reasons you mentioned and that he had every chance of getting injured again with his previous leg break remaining a weakness. Lo and behold, a kick in the wrong area and he is out again with a problem for quite a while.

Some on here wouldn't have it though and defended the decision by saying he is cheap cover, missing the point entirely that he ain't going to be cheap if he is no use to us if he is going to be injured on an ongoing basis throughout the season. Expect him to be fit for the last couple of months and some on here being suckered into thinking 'perhaps one more year for him'.

I don't think PH will be daft enough again next year to make the same mistake. This decision certainly was one on his part this time though. Money thrown away with that contract. Never mind, it's done now but I hope we wish him well next May and say goodbye to each other. He's been a good player for us though in the past.

..and here's me thinking Fleck had a great game in the FAC semi against the best team in Europe, so could do another year off the bench.

Silly me!

You're missing the point, and proving the point Weasel makes.

He's not doing another year off the bench. He's doing months on end in the treatment room. Again.

I don't think I'm missing the point at all.

The lad has beer a near ever present since 2016 but I agree had a poor season last year for injuries. He will be on a cheap deal, is the right kind of character for a muck and nettles struggle, and more importantly, Hecky knows him and wants him.

As ever, the experts on here, know far more about our players than our manager.

You are, but please go ahead and enjoy the veteran presence he's showing in the treatment room. Waste of time debating this further.

I continue to be astounded that people refuse to see the problem with this deal for themselves.

I'm happy to end the 'debate' too, if you're going to chuck your toys out.

Happy to make a charity bet he will feature in at least half a dozen games this season.

And heres me thinking JF has not been the same player for us for about two years now and has either been on the injury list or has been ineffectual in the games he has played where the games have completely passed him by or he's looked very static. He's been nowhere near the levels he achieved with us before he had his episode on the pitch. Nothing against the lad, but the simple truth.

One half decent game at Wembley when he was either playing for a contract or wanting to go out with a bit if style for us at the home of football, doesn't make up for the 2 seasons of ineffectual performances/injury absences that went before.

And I see the old 'the manager knows best' line chucked in. Well, on this occasion, clearly he didn't. Football managers are people just like you and me and they make mistakes too. This decision clearly was one. Still, you crack on with thinking it was the right one and that he's adding value to us by consistently being on the treatment table. The money used for his wages should have gone on a cheap up and coming player from the lower leagues as a prospect signing or put into the running costs for the academy. Poor decision by PH.

And no Osborn goes off injured. Left wing back is his vest position, disappointed to see him have to go off today.

Hope Souza was alright at the end - had lengthy treatment - hopefully just cramp...

Saw Brewster limping up the stairs to join the other 'injured' players. He looked crocked and also somewhat rotund so presume has not trained for a good few weeks.
Annoying that Davies is not fit enough to even get on the bench

left back is a problem if Osborn is out for some time .PLENTY OF FULL BACKS BUT ALL INJURED apart from the french lad.

Jesus Christ!

That Osborn and Fleck renewal really working out so far.

Yes, but they are cheap so that's all that matters .... 😉

The fact that both are regularly injured matters not one jot apparently. Their cheap. Woohoo.

Actually, I can see the potential merit in keeping Osborn. Fleck...mmhhh.

Yes, and he had one last season too. Apparently the break this time is on exactly the same place meaning it was a weak spot. He missed games last season after getting a kick on that same spot. Alarm bells should have been ringing at contract renewal time.
Alarm bells were ringing
That we weren't going to be able to put a 5 a side team out

It was a strange decision to give him a new deal
A weak leg in a sport where you get kicked on the leg regularly is not ideal 😣
Waste of a wage

So don't compound the situation then (no pun intended) by re signing a player who has a really good chance of not being available through injury for a large swathe of the season. Use the wage on a cheap lower league replacement if necessary, someone who would be available most of the season if you needed them due to injuries to first teamers. Example being a player like the young kid at Rochdale who we had on trial and went to Brentford. There must have been others like him who would have been a very cheap punt and who we could be bringing on and developing this season as a squad player. Not someone who is walking on crutches and taking a very nice wage for not being available most of the time. He has form for being injured these last two seasons past. It was time to part. I know someone who knows JF. Apparently even he expected to be let go. Like I said, mmhhh.
