None of the 6 leftsided players is back till December.
Yes I would terminate Clark loan if possible to get a fit LCB in January.
But in the meantime I would be scouring the world for a free agent leftsided defender.
Unless Hecky is confident in the 2 leftsided U21 lads , one of whom was sub again today.
Probably why you're not a football manager

Offer me just one of Clark or Longthrow being fit for the season and I would be pleased you made me the offer because it is an offer I would snap something of yours off for

Stevens can just be reserve reserve reserve at LWB and reserve reserve reserve reserve at LCB. Put any more pressure on him than that and he'll get injured immediately

I think the World Cup really will be another pre-season for us with the timetable for the players coming back. If we are still top two at that point, we could be flying once the season re-starts.

In theory yes.
How many of our players will be involved on international duty or otherwise meaningless friendlies, U21 games.

If we resume with Bogle, Clarke, Robinson, Osborn after the criminal waste of time and and those present in Qatar I'll be happy.

Your maths all over the place. According to McCall it sounded like Clark, Ozzy and Stevens are possibly back late October. So not sure where you are getting December from for some of these players as that's 10 fucking weeks away. Unless you forgot November is also a month on the on calendar.

I know I take the piss about the injury situation but you almost had most our squad back next season with your predications the other week.

So, December then...

Looks like Eeyore was wrong.

Kyron Gordon has been okay when he's played. BUT I'm not entirely sure we won a game that he started....(?)

Hecky may need to be slightly creative for the next couple of matches. Otherwise there's going to be a kid or two getting a couple of starts in October.

We beat Barnsley and he played Carlton Morris very well. Less impressive in some other outings.

I thought he was pretty good v Millwall. He was poor v Coventry, though wasn't alone in that. Didn't see the Blackpool game.

Lopata is going to regret leaving at this rate. He would most certainly have got game time this season.

O McBurnie - early October 2022 (2 weeks) - groin

J Bogle - early October 2022 (7 months) - knee ligaments

A Ahmedhodzic - late October 2022 (1 month) - thigh

J Robinson - November 2022 (4 months) - knee ligaments

B Osborn - November 2022 (4 months) - hamstring / ankle

C Clark - November 2022 (3 months) - hamstring

E Stevens - November 2022 (3 months) - hamstring

A Davies - December 2022 (4 months) - knee ligaments

J Fleck - December 2022 (4 months) - broken leg

M Lowe - January 2023 (4 months) - hamstring

I Coulibaly - February 2023 (6 months) - knee ligaments

Revised guestimates following McCall's press conference and latest news on Anel & McBurnie.

So frustrating isnt it. I would really like to know who advised him on his move because it’s almost certain he’d have minutes under his belt between now and WC

He was behind Gordon last season so might have been behind him this season. I’d have expected him to go back out on loan this season. If he had, he wouldn’t be available.

They play different positions imo, Lopata would be back up in centre of the 3 while Gordon is more of a mobile LCB/RCB player, i think they both couldve had roles this year

Are we just assuming Egan’s going to get injured too then? Seems reasonable under the circumstances. By the end of the season some of our first team will be so young they’ll have to get permission to take time off from school.

Why in earth did we start mcburnie if he was carrying an injury?

Especially as Brewster had apparently done enough to earn a start. Surely Brewster up top and either Doyle or khadra or McAtee could have played.

Hecky can blame bad luck etc but we really do need to be looking at the root courses of some of these things and decisions like that (imo) aren’t exactly helping things

Just hope Ndiaye has a shockingly bad World Cup although I dont think he will. Really bad time for a WC to occur just before January.

Is that what we did? Or did he pick it up during the game? In any event, it’s not unusual for a player to play through a minor injury, I doubt there’s many who haven’t done so at some point in their career.

I get the frustration though, I’m sick of reading that another player’s out. We can’t go on like this.

I’m not 100% sure tbf but sure I read headlines about him doing it for the team / playing through the pain - just seems like an unnecessary risk to take if so.

For me There are times to tough things out and give everything for the shirt and there are times to not aggravate an injury further - this felt like the second on.

OK , so we are now at the point where we can't field a first choice defence with individual defenders playing on their preferred side of the pitch.
And don't talk to me about expected dates of return coz they have proved illusory thus far.
The closest to a return was Clark and he managed to re-injure himself during his rehabilitation.
Everyone jumped on me like a ton of bricks when I queried selling Lopata , but at least he'd be a tall strong head-it kick it lad to go up against the strikers we'll face in October.
Then folk were sceptical about recruiting at least one defender before the window shut.
And subsequently I've been told that we can't afford to grab a free agent to see us through till January , which is the earliest we'll be able to take a proper view of our defensive strength.
I mentioned many weeks ago that we appeared to be sleepwalking towards major defensive difficulties and now Anel is out.
Even our makeshift occasional CB McBurnie is carrying an injury !
We have looked crap when we try to play 2 CBs (neither Bash nor Egan are suited to this) so I imagine we'll continue with 3.
I also imagine that Gomis is not considered ready to be on the bench as a tall defender , so Gordon can't start games.
Therefore it looks like Bash , Egan & RND as the 3 CBs. With only Gordon covering as sub for all 3.
Then it's Baldock RWB & possibly Brooks as LWB , with little cover apart from Gordon on the bench.
This is bare bones stuff.
In a shit or bust season.
Which we have started brilliantly , but now look seriously under-strength at the back.
That's without any new injuries arising for defenders on international duty.
The pressure to play some of the walking wounded before they are fully fit must be huge.
Why we have not recruited to mitigate this situation , I can't understand.
But we are where we are.
What's our risk management plan for the next fortnight ?
Can Gomis be brought up to bench-standard ?
Can McBurnie be converted to CB ?
Can anyone play LWB once RND has moved to LCB ? Brooks ? Gomis ?
Who plays CCB if Egan out ?
Who plays RWB if Baldock out ?
Who plays LCB if RND out ?
It's no good saying "it'll be ok when injured players return" - we don't want to ship goals for the whole of October !
We don't have enough defensive cover to match our bad luck with injuries.
And we don't seem to be addressing it.
