If Cairan Clark's injury is hamstring related and it appears to be so, bearing in mind his previous absence with the same problem an additional lcb is a must. I love JLT however he won't get us promoted. RND is too far away fitness wise. Fantastic point tonight though put me back to QPR when we were 2 nil down going in to injury time and drew 2-2. We got promoted, good omen however that's when David Powell (a big favourite of my fathers) did his knee and was never the same again. Onwards and upwards, play a team on Saturday against Millwall to give us the best opportunity of beating Stoke on the 14th. Utb

I was at a reserve match at the Lane that day. My dad and I left the ground thinking that the 1st team had lost 2-0. Then we were distracted by excited shouts so my dad and I rushed into the John Street terrace to check the pavilion scoreboard and it confirmed that the final score was 2-2!

Yes I was at the same reserve match silent. Left before the end though to catch my bus home to of all places Hillsborough (82??). Anyway got home to find out 2-2 Ted equaliser?

Not a lot of good news on the injury front, it seems to be getting worse again.
Fans declaring us as being as good as promoted need to start paying attention to this, as it wasn't too long ago we went on a six game winless run with half the squad missing. If we do that again, this healthy lead we've built up will evaporate once more.

Max Lowe is out with a side strain, I expect he'll probably be back for the Stoke game. Baldock had one earlier in the season and it didn't last long. HIs worrying that he misses almost as many games as he plays. He also missed a lot of football with Forest last season. It's a shame as he improves us immensely when he comes in.

Ciaran Clark picked up a hamstring injury, these usually take about six weeks with us. His fitness problems also continue to be a worry. As impressed as I've been with him when he has played, he's not somebody I think we should be signing permanently given how often he's unavailable.

Oli McBurnie is still missing from our matchday squad. Seems (as with Fleck) that we rushed him back too soon, he's seemingly re-aggravated the ankle ligaments he injured against Rotherham a couple of months ago. PH keeps letting on he's not far off, but I've a feeling it might be a while until we see him starting games again. Seems to try to completely deflect on questions on him.

The transfer windows opened. PH seemed pretty down on our chances of bringing anybody in. Khadra is seemingly heading back and Osula is likely to stay to provide cover. Could look back at this month as a massive missed opportunity to get over the line. Middlesbrough (probably going to be our nearest rival) are strengthening with Barlaser and Cameron Archer, whilst we're standing still and accumulating injuries.

Also, looks like Coulibaly might finally be close to a return.
He appeared in the most recent training video the club put out (unless we have another black, french speaker that I'm unfamiliar with, that isn't Ndiaye ?)

Training video mostly featured the kids, so I'd expect wholesale changes this weekend.
That Louis Marsh lad looks good in it. Be good to see him feature.

CM, can I just clarify why you think Boro are likely to be our nearest rival, when we are 12 points, and 3 positions clear of them, as well as being above them in most of the form tables?

I don't doubt that they have had a good run of late, and are likely to finish strongly, but all the historic models show that 12 points is quite a gap to close, even with this many games left and considering that we are still one of the form teams of the division.

Our nearest rival is Burnley, and we shouldn't discount Watford so easily perhaps, unless I am missing something here?

I can't see Burnley, at this stage, finishing outside the top two. Such is the gap they've created, the form they're in and their ability to keep most of their squad fit and available most weeks.
They also don't look likely to sell players this January.
I think it's going to be between ourselves, Middlesbrough, Watford & West Brom for 2nd place.

Or those three, I think Middlesbrough have the most potential to go on a 2 points per game sort of run between now and the end of the season.
They've been on a great run since Carrick came in, but even before that seemed to be massively underperforming against XG models which often had them in the top two / three.
And as above, they seem to have a few quid to spend to kick on.

We have a great lead, but I also think we have the capacity to blow it. Largely due to the injury issues which persist.

Yes but even if Boro put in 2 points per game from now to the end of the season (which is some ask by the way) they will finish on 79 points. For us not to hit that, we would need to drop to 1.4 points per game, which likewise would be some ask, without a catastrophe of some sorts. I just don't see it happening, especially as we built up this lead despite contending with more injuries than we currently have.

Fair assessment imho.

Amidst the financial and takeover rumour doom and gloom, the only concern I have over promotion is injuries.

We did very well to reach the WC break in the top two considering the injuries we had. Whilst some are now back, we're already losing others again.

Based on the last year or more, there's plenty of chance that we'll continue to struggle in this regard for the remainder of the season.

It's the one negative about the playing side and the only reason we'll fail to be promoted imho. Unless of course there's a kick or two in the balls on the transfer out front this month 🙈

Lovely way to describe people who support and care about this football club as much as anyone else. Being concerned about obvious issues such as ridiculous injury lists and baffling in game management/ substitutions is because people can see we are better than a lot of performances. It's not long back we didn't win in 6. A run half as bad would have the pack breathing down our necks. There's no question we have an abundance of talent which should see us finish second at worst. We all know what the play offs would bring, and next season with no parachute payments we'd lose all our best players. This season really is incredibly pivotal.

From looking at this list you’ve got 7 first team players out. Realistically that would ruin a lot of teams.

It’s mental what we’ve experienced since Hecky coming in, it my be coincidental it might just be bad luck

They are not miserable cunts as you so eloquently put it, they just realise there are 60 pts to play for and aren't getting carried away. Anything can happen, loss of form, injuries to key players ect.
I I don't think there's a Blade anywhere who will be happy if we don't get promoted, they just have the fear of the inevitable kick in the bollocks that sometimes happens in important situations where United are concerned.

Bad luck dosen't tend to never stop! One thinh he is responsib;le for is stupidly overplaying players just back from injury. Those decisions have cost us the loss of a number of first teamers.

I am being a pedantic bastard here, but if a kick in the bollocks in inevitable, then it will happen every time, not sometimes.

In recent years (lets say the last 10-12) we have only really had 2 big kicks in the bollocks; the Ched nightmare leading to the Pigs pipping us, and then our collapse under covid, which effected other teams as well. We can chuck in the play off failures, but they happen to most teams and they didn't come close to the 2 aforementioned traumas.

Otherwise it has been a very exciting period, and certainly the best I have ever witnessed.

If we go back further we can find ups and downs, with maybe a few more of the latter, yes it seems that some of our fanbase are always waiting for a horrendous shit storm, that rarely comes to be honest.
