Injuries

Hopefully Leeds and Burnley start to wrack up their own fair share of injuries.

Whilst I don’t especially want players injured, it seems we are monopolising this particular stat.

What’s that now? Both centre backs? Both first choice midfielders and both main strikers? Not to mention quite a few such as Seriki, JRS, Gilchrist, Davies, Brewster have all missed games.
the difference is we have such a small squad . We all knew at the start of the season our squad was to small ,we are now paying for that . All though our results have been good we have started to find how short we are when it comes to back up .

He was very distressed, hoping it’s the best scenario for him.

If the injury seems to be as bad as you think, why did the medical staff let him hobble off? Wouldn’t it have been better to use the stretcher to prevent making it worse?

The small squad is causing us the dual problem of having to put kids on the bench and having to play tired players game after game. The latter is causing more injuries because we can't manage their minutes

Burnley have already had loads of injuries, however they have a big squad good enough to cope

It’s time for the new owners to show how serious they are by putting their money where their mouths are and giving Wilder the funds he needs to finish the job he started by backing him in the transfer window.

All the people saying the small squad is costing us, well we've done really well considering that since we're still second. However we all know we need several additional players now because it's the games v the better teams where the squad thinness comes to bite us in the bum.

But overall we've managed through the injuries. It's just frustrating that each time we get an injury it seems to be a minimum 3 -5 games missing per player.

Have we heard why Souza went off?
Not sure what his issue was but just before half time he ran over towards Davies who was warming up and indicated to him to gee up his warm up. We assumed he was saying he would be coming off and that's what happened.

Hopefully nothing of note.

Just watched the Souttar back on the extended highlights. I can't see any evidence of turned ankles, feet stuck in turf etc. It does appear though that the Burnley player stands on Sputtars right foot and I'm guessing this was what caused the injury. It's accidental from their player but that does give me slight hope that it's not a torn injury but more impact which might be slightly less serious but I'm no doctor obviously!

Anyone else see the extended highlights too re the injury?

Burnley have lots of injuries, Ramsey , Sarmiento, Beyor , Benson and Tresor. That was Fosters first game back for a while. All very good players too all would be in and around their first team.

People forget they went up and broke the bank, there team can handle 5/6 injuries and still leave Koleosho (who was linked to Bayern Munich at the start of the season) as an unused substitute.

Burnley even with those injuries didn’t have one youth team player on the bench.

Leeds have a big squad they have 4 injuries to what you would call first team players. They don’t have a single youth team player on the bench.
Those two have the top two squads in the league , no doubt about it.
Burnley's wage bill is (from web itk sites) 50% bigger than ours & Leeds I dunno. How they get round FFP P&S I dunno either.
We are riddled with injuries to a thin squad - the new owners will have to work miracles to get autos.

He's had a hamstring injury since the Sunderland game acc. to CW.
He's nowhere near his normal level.

Didn't Souttar have 12 months out of the game with an ACL injury? Hopefully not a recurrence or related. Either way no wonder he looked shell shocked given his history.

Didn't see his foot get stepped on, I thought his achilles had gone as he slipped, I know an ex keeper who's achilles snapped as he walked off at half time while playing for Chesterfield

We have been discussing that earlier, the thought of possible dislocation would be a factor as a stretcher with immobilisation on the leg/ankle may complicate, time is critical as the ambulance people have to get on,immobilise and carry on,ie/get him laid out and assess asap. It will all come out in the next day or two as most of us saw it from a distance.

Saw him do that and when peck came off at half time he went straight to Davies and pointed at souza

Cheers mate, as someone who doesn’t work in the medical field, it’s just one of those things that I’d expect. Bad injury = stretcher, but I ain’t got a clue really

Wilder has claimed that Leeds's wage bill is the highest in Championship history. Our wage bill can be worked out on a fag packet.

We have 15 senior players. Only four of the permanents are likely to be on really big money at this level (Brewster, Hamer, T Davies, Moore?). There's arguments over a few more (Vini, Moore O'Hare, Anel). If you contextualise: all those were signed when the club's attitude was one of getting the wage bill and cost base down. I'd suggest that those who signed in the Prem were signed to fit into the post 1st Prem relegation strategy, and were selected in the Prem due to their (lower) salary demands. Then you have this season's loans: temporary signings on bigger money.

Even if I'm wrong and they are almost all on top money at this level the total figure is substantially undermined by the small number of senior players.

Leeds have a big turnover and high player sales. Burnley are worried about breaking rules if they don't get promoted. They do have two or three big assets they could cash in if that happens
