Sorted it out alot earlier for a start.
Why have we played him in Pre-Season games ?
Under two weeks until the season starts and arguably our best player is sold for a " Undisclosed Fee"
Absolute total F@#k up by United.

You are right on all of those points, BUT it does seem like Iliman genuinely kept changing his mind. If he has told the club that he was staying, I don't question him playing in the friendlies, why wouldn't he? Seems like the latest change of heart happened within the last 24 hours, coinciding with Marseille finally putting in a proper bid.

It is a fuck up, but I don't blame the club exclusively.

Illy, his agent and his Dad can all equally fuck off with regard to this situation too, as far as I am concerned.

This shows total lack of ambition from Illiman. I can understand him wanting to play for his boyhood club towards the end of his career, but now at his present age, it doesn’t make sense. He could have showcased his skills on the worldwide stage this coming season and moved onto a top European clubs next year, but could it be that not only does he lack ambition, but also lacks confidence in his own ability in playing in top flight football? I’m just beginning to think that he knows his own capabilities as he certainly didn’t shine against Man City and didn’t really stand out in the couple of games in the World Cup. Yes, he played well against Spurs, but who didn’t when they were playing such dross football. If this is the case, then perhaps he feels he’s quitting United as the top star and his move to OM is probably the same standard as the lower end Premier, top half Championship level where he knows he can continue to shine. In other words, he knows he has found his level and not confident enough with the risk of a move any higher. If he played to the same standard as he did against City throughout the majority of the coming season, he wouldn’t be worth jack shit this time next year.
Probably he’s just not prepared to take that gamble.
You make some very good points here. Iliman looked very average in the FA Cup semi-final and in the World Cup. So maybe we are over-exaggerating his importance to our Premier League ambitions?

We'll never know I suppose.

Personally I think he would have thrived, but I do also find it amusing that some / many were pinning our hopes of survival exclusively on his shoulders. Whilst completely ignoring the fact that we still have a spine of players who have actually shown that they can operate very effectively at PL level and are still in very good nick (Egan, Baldock, Berge & McBurnie) with a few others who did it once but are perhaps past their best, and several more who didn't tear it up last time but at least know what to expect and should be better prepared.

Agents are incentivised to get their players to move given they get a cut of transfer fees ... so I'm sure Illi's agent was saying similar things alongside the likes of 'what if you get injured', 'what if OM sign another forward' etc.

The neat player cams from the PL summer series do make you realise the intensity of the game though, this is a friendly and you still get closed down almost as soon as you get the ball:

Here. We. Go.

I fucking love this forum hahaha
Why is it funny ?
Wednesday will stay up just this season, while we'll almost definitely be relegated. We'll have about 6 players under contract the following season, although we could offer Fleck another year so possibly 7 players.
Its not a so far fetched scenario after all is it.

Same for pigs contract wise - just seems a bit pessimistic to assume we'll be relegated, pigs won't and then we'll be worse than them in 2024

Lolz. U seen the state of them? Be surprised if they dont finish bottom.

Let me guess...they'll also turn us over 5-0 in the cup next season too? ;)
No even without Ndiaye we would still beat them easily in the cup if we played them this season.
But let's be honest we are only spending 1 season in the Premiership with this squad, and we'll only have about 6 players under contract for the following season, so it's quite possible Wednesday could finish above us.

Dint you think there’s a slight chance we will offer contracts to most of these players before then?

Let's see what happens mate. Still loads of time to bring a few more in, so don't write us off this season. And I think one benefit of not pissing loads of money up the wall this summer, will be that we can fix some of our contract issues going into next season.

There is no way Hecky will allow us to go into the next pre season with so many players out of contract. Not a chance.

Would you bet your house on Egan, Baldock, Berge, Jebbison, McBurnie Foderingham, signing them ?
Fleck and Osborn might though.
