Obviously fucking gutted. Think Illi has been badly advised to take this step at this point in his career. I'm not one of the people that subscribed to the idea that he would have been the difference between success and failure next season, but I can say this. He'd have made the journey a fucking delight to behold and clearly it's a massive shame we'll not get to see him, in the Red and White, ripping it up in the PL.

OTOH, I'm a Silver Linings type, so hopefully we can re-invest the fees into several players that actually make us stronger across the board as opposed to us being a bit of a one trick pony.

Fucking Gutted though.

ITS THE CLUBS MONEY We have just had 180million quid promised us for getting promoted (twice in four years). had thebest gates in the championship sold a goalie for 35 mill 3 years parachute money and we are splashing out 2 million for our big buys to play in the prem .and will most probably be paying league one wages . Could not blame Hecky if he walked .
 
One argument is the Club should gamble on anything under 20 million. I genuinely believe he could keep us up and that's worth 110 million extra coming into the club over the next 3 years if we managed to stay up rather than if we went straight back down.

He wants to go home? No issue with that. He can go for free next year.

Instead we are gambling on finding good players for buttons and I am not sure which option I have more faith in

Agree, what a shambles it will be if he’s going for the reported 14m. How the fuck can we replace him or buy decent players in other positions with that minimal amount of money. It’s ridiculous, we should’ve offered him a better contract off the back of the play off season and if he rejected that then we should’ve stood firm and said you can go on a free when your contracts run out. 14-20 million spread over say 3 players are most likely not going to tear it up.

Also integrating a potential replacement could be an absolute nightmare regarding how the start of the fixture list is probably our easiest chance to gain points, instead we’re most likely going to be on the back foot straight away.
 
This shows total lack of ambition from Illiman. I can understand him wanting to play for his boyhood club towards the end of his career, but now at his present age, it doesn’t make sense. He could have showcased his skills on the worldwide stage this coming season and moved onto a top European clubs next year, but could it be that not only does he lack ambition, but also lacks confidence in his own ability in playing in top flight football? I’m just beginning to think that he knows his own capabilities as he certainly didn’t shine against Man City and didn’t really stand out in the couple of games in the World Cup. Yes, he played well against Spurs, but who didn’t when they were playing such dross football. If this is the case, then perhaps he feels he’s quitting United as the top star and his move to OM is probably the same standard as the lower end Premier, top half Championship level where he knows he can continue to shine. In other words, he knows he has found his level and not confident enough with the risk of a move any higher. If he played to the same standard as he did against City throughout the majority of the coming season, he wouldn’t be worth jack shit this time next year.
Probably he’s just not prepared to take that gamble.

He'll be in the champions league in a side likely to be top 4 in France maybe even top 2. That's far better than a relegation battle to get noticed by our leagues top 4 or a Barca/real Madrid
 
If the sell on being talked about is true then we want him to tear the French league up so Real Munich or someone buys him for stupid money in a couple of seasons. So for that reason alone glttl

I’m going to reserve judgment until the fee becomes a lot clearer. But it’s a really difficult decision what to do with a player in the last year of his contract.

For me, it ultimately it comes down to the player. If he’s adamant he wants to go this window, then it’s better to sell and try to get the best deal for United as possible.

My thoughts exactly test yourself at the top level before you go back to play for your home town club, he has chosen a shit league with around four decent teams a bit like the SPL, I thought he was better than that. I doubt his champions league dreams will last long OM go out faster than Celtic and Rangers
 
If he has left then it's starting to feel like the "Kevin MacDonald season".

When we built a team around one player, then sold him just before the season started, and consequently the team failed to function.

Slightly different here though as we haven't really built anything yet, as our transfer activity could be kindly described as "limited".

I wouldn't want to be Heckys cat at the moment.........

Sorted it out alot earlier for a start.
Why have we played him in Pre-Season games ?
Under two weeks until the season starts and arguably our best player is sold for a " Undisclosed Fee"
Absolute total F@#k up by United.

If he's serious about the Ballon D'or, being in France, in the CL, towards the top of a AAA league will, arguably, be a much better shop window to make the step up to a European giant than playing in a weekly relegation battle. Not to mention it's only been won by 2 players from the British top flight in the last 30 years.....
