Early days, but if we finally get out of this league. Who can cut in the championship of our current players.
If we are promoted CW will have a difficult summer strengthening the squad and part with players who have done what's been asked.
Surely we'll have to get more quality when we set new goals, but who of our current players are starting IX.

Moore, Fleck, Duffy..............

Define cut it? What are your expectations immediately following promotion? There's a whole lot of difference between finishing 21st and getting back to back promotions

Cut it=established in the championship mid table or higher. Avoid hoovering above relegation.

Out of the current squad i would keep Moore, O'Connell, Fleck, Coutts, Duffy and Sharp for next season. I also think that if we get promoted next season, Mark Duffy will take to the championship like a duck to water.

At least in the current formation. I wouldn't have said Duffy previously but in his new central position alongside good players I think he could cope at that level. I think Moore, EEL and J'OC will develop into players who are comfortable at that level. Sharp and Basham would also be useful. Don't think Wright would let us down either.

Hope Badger Helmsley Flynn Colquon Hockey Woodward Salmons Dearden Currie Reece.

Or the lot Dave Bassett got up.
Any talk of owt else is utter bollux and as said above proper fucks the footballing Gods off.
Plus its arrogant.
Which we ain't. That tag belongs to them pig cunts.
Leave it with them.

Lets get out of the division first and then worry about the championship

Absolutely

If there's a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Blades are the team to do it

I'll comment on players suitable for the Championship if and when we ever make it there

Moore and Fleck, that's it.

There will have to be a substantial offloading in the summer, some hard decisions and even a few of my personal favourites will have to be considered for listing.

I remember walking out of the Lane after we'd played Palace ("Tracksuit from Matalan") discussing why Morgan and Monty would be no good in the Premier. Both played way beyond what we could possibly expect and had great seasons.

If Venger had signed those two in 2007, it might have stiffened Arsenal up enough to actually look like they might win something.

Let CW decide IF we get there.

Silly presumptuous thread.

I'd go along with this but I would add Freeman to the list if he can keep his form. It's also dependent on us playing our current formation.

I have never ever understood stuff like this. The players can read as well you know? They could all cut it if we go up, no one will be sacked as a reward for all of their hard work

As I have mentioned recently, when the Prince came on board the talk was about premier league in five years after we get out of this division, I know some will go on about KM saying Europe in what ever when we went up to the premier but his comments a few years ago had more credence fir me because of the the Prince coming on board has anything happened to change this? I expect news after we win promotion on new and realistic targets for the club, hopefully the new " big hitters" who will be sponsoring us, according to Baki anyway. And when folk start saying "lets wait till we go up" Why? are we really going to jeopardise our chances because we dare to talk about it? Grow up.

The OP already said "early days" and "if". No need for everyone to keep emphasising the point.

Agreed and whilst I accept that we should never get ahead of ourselves you can guarantee that CW is already planning for next season, whether Championship or league 1.

I won't get in to which individuals would cut it in the Championship, but suffice to say that there is a lot of rubbish talked about there being a growing gap in standards between League 1 and Championship. Far and away the worst games I've seen this season have been Saturday teatime live games from the Championship. These games show the mass of utter dross that there is beneath the top 3 or 4 in that division.

What teams going up need to be able to do is, adapt to compete with the physicality of that division. Contrary to what certain of the pundits will have us believe, there is a lot less football played in the Championship than League 1. The stuff that I've seen (from the likes of Norwich, Pigs, Birmingham, Forest, Wolves, Preston and Villa) has for the large part been utter tripe.

Sides are, however, on the whole a lot more physically imposing. And, despite improving the situation this season, United are still a relatively small team. In footballing terms, though, there would be nothing for most of our players to be overly concerned about.

You're being very harsh on the current group there

I don't think I am, and I'm not trying to be, but the 2nd division is much, much better than when we were last there. The gap between the two is considerable.

I like this team a lot, but serious questions need to be asked of their ability to make us competitive in the next division, as much as we love them now. Too much sentiment will put us back in the same place we strived to get out of for 6 years.

Agreed, Championship clubs regularly spend around £10m on one player. When we were last there, that sort of money on your starting XI would make you one of the favourites for promotion!

I think there is a massive gap in standards appearing in the football leagues but it is not between the 2nd and third tier, it is probably about part way down the 2nd tier, hence a team can get promoted from the third tier and do ok in the second without threatening the top at all. Why isn't there a great chasm in points appearing between the teams with premiership players and the others? The manager plays a huge role and some teams, like Burton play every game to counter attack, which can carve out results against better teams.

The time for obtaining a couple of players that are Championship material is coming in the next month
