He wants a centre half in to make sure we are not short because of injury or illness,it's not a case of earning their place,it's a case of they are in the team because that's all we've got if the worst happens.

Agree but we are currently one of the richest clubs in the Championship,
opposition fans often comment that our subs bench costs more than their whole squad combIned.
The problem is we have so many players on massive contracts….so our expenses are also one of the highest in the league.

If we remain in the Championship then our current expenditure is unsustainable and we’re heading for FFP penalties.
So we need to spend our money very wisely over the next 2 years whilst we re-structure the club.

It's probably because our bench cost so much that we're one of the poorest clubs in the Championship.

Taking a huge hit on transfer fees granted but not the worst idea now when it comes to freeing up wages. Although players have some value. If a £2 million bid came in for Berge or McBurnie it would be difficult to turn down based on cash in the bank and wage structure savings. Freeman is likely to live up to his name in the summer and go on a free/contract not renewed, I am surprised we haven't (could have been) trying to offload him now even if for a few hundred K better than nothing and paying out 5 months wages.

For me neither have shown to be worth anymore £ their international status doesn't add any value Berge with 1 goal in 24 and McBurnie 0 in 16 with Norway and Scotland not exactly international heavyweights.

If we leave Berge to one side. Birmingham City have reportly offered Hibs £2million for striker Kevin Nisbet although not proven in the EFL/Championship he has scored 19 in 53 appearances for Hibs since 2020 and once for Scotland in comparison to McBurnies 7 in 72 to date for us.

If Brum do get Nisbet for £2million and he settles in the Championship, McBurnie's price tag will drop and a bar will be set on similar players. Although I have bashed McBurnie about abit he needs to get fit enough to be in the squad and looking like he is up for it, he needs to prove he is Scotlands best striker in the EFL make yourself worth £5million+ and we will see in the summer. With Berge nothing personal but difficult to compare without too much digging and mainly freeing up wages wouldn't be a bad idea.

Regrettably, until our recruitment team is changed / refreshed we haven't got too much to look forward to. The player recruitment has been dreadful for a while with little sign of positive change.

Not disappointed because I never expected anything. Maybe I took it to literally but it seemed quite clear at the time that the recruitment ethos had shifted from recruit to develop and Heckingbottom agreed to that job and seemed to be excited to work under these conditions so I’m not so sure he can be frustrated either
