I wish the owners (whoever they are at any one time) would actually for once, just commit to giving the club a quality facility for our 1st team and youth team. Something to be proud of. I wanted us to spend it on the training facilities rather than Brewster, but i was a lone voice at the time. Wanted something tangible to show for our time up there. But, never mind.... can we please (if necessary flog a player or two) get the training ground at Dore properly done as quickly as possible, United. If we need to flog a player for reasonable money, then so be it. Set the club up for years, rather than short termism.

I agree wholeheartedly with your wish & sentiments - but sadly we have blown any money we did have for this important project. Unless we get new owners I just can’t see this moving forward until we get back to the Premier League. It’s quite shocking that we could not find £10 to £20 million for this out of the £500 million we’ve squandered over the last 7 years!

I agree on this. By academy, I did mean products as we won't have any sell on clauses or finance outstanding on them. Peck, Seriki, Arblaster, One... Would you sell any combo of them to fund Dore getting completed

Yeah personally I would if £12million (highly doubtful) could sell on Arblaster and One/Seriki with the sales proceeds guaranteed to completing Dore then I would say it would be worth it in the long run especially if it meant less injuries and such like

A lone voice in what sense? I'm sure plenty of fans would have chosen infrastructure upgrades over a new striker given the opportunity, I certainly would have. We didn't spend £20mill on a striker due to fan demands, it was the owner trying to secure PL money.

There was a £10m figure mentioned a couple of years ago for the facility when the acquisition was made and that was inclusive of the purchase cost. No way it'll be that now building costs continue to skyrocket

This is by far the most disappointing thing in our time of recent relative success.

For the money we spunked on Brewster, what sort of state of the art facility could we have got? We should have come out of the PL light years ahead of Wednesday. Yes we wasted it on failed player projects.

That being said we spent so little last time in not clear why there wasn’t any left to do this.

At least have something to show for three seasons in the PL.

But then you also look at Sellés’ tenure. Even if we had resigned McBurnie, you’d not feel like you’d lost the 17m on him as he’d once again be our player: I see he signed a new deal with Hull.

Unfortunately our absolutely atrocious recruitment at the time when we had money is the reason that we don’t have a top level training facility and academy. We wasted so much money. Berge, Souza and Ahmedhodzic aside, how many of our signings ever looked like potential PL players?

Bettis confirmed this in his interview in the spring. it would have happened if we went up 2 seasons back. as we didn't. work on hold.

If we could sell 2 current academy players in our squad to generate £12m (on the basis that their fee is total profit) and it was guaranteed to be spent on the training ground... would you do it and who would you sell?

Yes, absolutely. The academy and becoming cat 1 will make this club even more sustainable from a player production POV. We do alright at it anyway, certainly a few million times better than our neighbours in S6.

I want this club reinventing strategically. We had our marketing reinvention with all the “forged in steel” stuff, we need a new playing philosophy at the club and that starts with a new academy and a new manager.

Yes - it’s ridiculously low. I doubt £10-20m is accurate. Leicester spent £100m on theirs (although admittedly I’m not sure whether that included the cost of the land, which we already have).

I suspect the running costs are a consideration, no idea what such a facility costs on a day to day basis but I'd be interested to know if any finance members can establish what shiregreen costs per year. If the intention is to retain shiregreen and run dore then it's a fair sum

Stoke just built a new one for £12m.

Also worth pointing out that given we already have one training ground at Shirecliffe which we're keeping, a new one at Dore just for the first team should be on the cheaper side.

Exactly. We're don't have to comply with requirements for a Cat 1 academy, and as far as I'm aware, there are no rules governing a first-team facility.
We can build what is sufficient for the first team and add later, should we need to.
