In the mid 60’s my father who worked for Arthur Balfour and Co was offered the job as bar steward and site manager.. Two things stopped him 1 . He never drove so relied on Sheffield Transport, and two needed his fix of blue and white football.
So we never moved out to Dore , shame really.
Spent many happy Sunday’s watching Cricket up there, never played football there but played next door to it .

I take it they have moved the women's team into the existing facilities? Just to get them out of shirecliffe and more space for our 1st team.

Then if we get promoted again or find money down sofa and do it up properly they can switch them back to shirecliffe.

Is this right? I'm guessing we havnt built proper training facility on there yet...

Its definitely had a spruce up since I was last up there.

Perhaps the priority was making the clubhouse useable (with a lick of paint) and that will help make training for all the teams more manageable.

To be fair, when I used to play, the pitches up their used to be a good quality and seemed to cope with the weather well (remember playing up there when most other local games had been lost to rain).

Potentially not much outlay, to help the club give the relevant squads better facilities.

Most want a sparkling new training facility asap, but let's remember - we support Sheffield United.

With a profile name like that, I presume Nowadays do you get the footy fix with Pafos FC?

I am unsure of the ultimate ambitions of the Women's side and this isn't a dig at them at all as I think it's great as a community that we have a footprint within the game. Looking at their current standard they need to play in a "Grade B Standard FA Group"

Min requirements - 500 covered seats, min of a 120-lux floodlights, a 1.83m perimeter boundary, and a seated technical area for 11 persons. The space that is at Dore could easily be upgraded with planning permission, to meet/exceed the min requirements for under £2million if you went for basic modular design on a stand at one side and the rest open. This could also be a base for our U21's, which although I know it's not great them not being able to play at BTDBL, their could be a set number of games allocated per season but it would take some burden off the Bramall Lane pitch and at Shirecliffe too. I am not sure how much space we have there but apparently according to google its 25 to 26 acres so plenty of room to have a mini-stadium and training facilities.

The"Olympic legacy" ground McCabe has would have been ideal as a mini stadium for the women and u21s.

Could still be as aren't Sheffield eagles moving on eventually

Didn't Bettis say a few months back that plans were being drawn up to be submitted. (I know doesn't take this long).

But that the women's team will start training up there in the meantime. So guess this is why a groundskeeper is now needed.
Think he did say it would take about a year..

He didn’t say that tho did he. He said we’d identified an architect and now plans would be drawn and planning permission would be sought which could take upto a year.
I suspect we will keep going with getting plans in place and approved over the next 12-18 months. The costs to do this aren't vast.

Should we find ourselves promoted this time next season expect things to move quicker with a cash injection.

Otherwise get plans approved and then be a case of raising funds to cover it. Which could be a waiting game at that point.
Either via owner cash injection, promotion to PL or even a big enough player sale. I reckon the budget for this new facility is probably in the region of £10-12m. Bettis may have said in the FH interview.

I reckon you’d need to triple that budget, at least.

You could maybe do it for £10m because it's on the smaller end and it's not a vanity project like Leicester was. But you have to factor in the development costs at Shirecliffe to get Cat 1, plus £3m+ per annum to run the sites

Shirecliffe to cat 1 won't cost a great deal all the facilities are there , enough pitches when the first team move out ,more of a staffing investment

I think it's the off pitch stuff around classrooms, welfare, extra staff, sports science etc that'll cost. Not insane amounts but it'll be significant

I don't think we will spend £30m on it up at Dore.

Might be more than I've suggested but can't see us dropping that amount unless we have ownership change.
