A bit disappointing! At least the prince invested in the ground and brought all the surroundings buildings under one umbrella.

They only paid £2 million , if anyone has been up there it is a bargain for so much land. Why not invest another £2 million to get it up to scratch. Seems a pittance in todays football transfer fees.

They don't seem to have much of their own money to put in. The whole thing was seemingly a punt on us going up. Not sure what their plans would have been thereafter. They're not the most communicative.
I don’t know about inputs of money, they seem to be bankrolling huge wages for a good amount of players, some who aren’t in the picture. I’m sure that once the season is over and the dust settles,we will recoup money by Flogging Seriki,Brooks,Peck,as they will fit into a newly promoted side or a lower end premier side. Yes,it certainly was a cheap punt of us going up last season,to me the narrative stays the same as last season with more entertaining football (mostly) but a failure to go up.

I could live with us selling one of the young stars that we have if it was for big money and that money was spent on club infrasturcture and the HSBC training ground. Bite the bullet once and invest those monies in a long term asset for the club. If it meant the sale of a Brooks, Peck or Seriki to fund it, at least Uniteds youth academy system could be conceived to have partially funded an asset that helps the future first team get up and running at the new training complex at Dore, which then allows the club to look to use Shirecliffe solely for the academy. Sometimes you need to lose an asset to gain another.

I imagine that it is likely to cost at least 5 times that amount to do the work.

Was it raining?

This was probably the only time we could find suitable land and make the purchase, it likely wouldn't have been available the next time we made it to the PL - it'd have been developed into luxury flats or something. Medium-long term it feels like the right move even if we can't develop on it for a few years when we may have the funding. The land itself isn't going to lose value, probably the opposite.

There's no immediate rush.

There is also the ongoing cost of running the separate sites. I suspect this would be much more costly than most of us imagine. If this was addressed at the fans forum it may put a few things in context.

My understanding is that it was very much a rush job for the club to purchase it. Or lose it.

Yep definitely the right opportunity in the right location. Being at the far west side of the city makes it more accessible from where the bulk of the top players live - south of Manchester.

Hopefully next time we get up, some of the funds are committed to get this place built. It will really help with recruitment.
