It is interesting , in that the new owners are taking the necessary next step in progressing this project. They can't realistically be doing more until this next step is completed.
They could do what Reg Brearley did (god rest him) with the John street bit and stick a couple of JCB’s on there

Am I wrong to think we don't have planning permission yet?

It depends on the extent of the works, but I’d expect a planning application would be required. I’ve not checked for months but if I think on I’ll look at this and any updated Title information.

Pretty sure the upgrading of the 4 g area and the improvements to the pitches won't need planning . obviously if new lighting and changes to it licensing are to happen then planning will be required .as for any new building planning will be required but I'm sure decisions are going on with the planing department about what's suitable on the land .Sheffield should be proud that we want to make a world class training base .

Have we seen anything to suggest it will be world class?

I hope you're right, but I'm a little surprised by the lack of progress and lack of transparency around plans.

Knowing the site, think to get it to a world class training base you’d need to make more than very minor changes to the external appearance of the buildings (excepting internal refurb).

If the pitches are deso and there's floodlit 4 g a indoor 4g and a great gym and physio rooms ,remember it's catering for a max of 30 players I'd call it world class 😊
Also there was talk of a accomodation block for the academy players which would be financially beneficial .⚔️

I got told something about this today. Basically because United have stopped use of the cricket pitches, they cannot start redevelopment until they are replaced. United have said it's nothing to with them, but they can't get permission until it's sorted. Sheffield FC/Eagles had the same issue at Meadowhead hence the very small cricket pitch they put into the plans. (It's highways that are delaying that).

Seems strange to me to do anything with the pitches before construction (or even planning being submitted) takes place for the buildings that will be required. New pitches and then inviting plant machinery all over the place?

Barrier is up but no fence. That will really stop wheel marks appearing on that nice flat ground.

Assuming Bettissssssssssssss will give an update on this at the fans forum next week?

He already did in his RS interview.

Apart from upgrading the pitches for the womens team there are no plans to develop untill we are in the PL.
It's a bit of an expensive purchase for just the women's team to be at, although it's good they have the facilities maybe a bit of thinking outside of the box could allow this to progress a bit further. Although I wouldn't ever want to sell the naming rights for BDTBL as a stadium, this could be an option for the training ground, especially with the amount of pre-match press and interviews that is done from there. There have been admittedly high profile clubs that have done this previous, Liverpool had a deal with AXA worth in excess of £20million to call it the AXA Training Centre and Man United's Carrington training centre for sponsorship was the Aon Training Complex for 8 years in a large deal up to 2021. I am not sure of the proposed costings for us however if we take QPR as an example which is relatively recent opening in 2023, they have 7 pitches, the usual gym and performance analysis and rehab centres etc, theirs cost approx £20million for the redevelopment, they bought the land in 2020. QPR went about it through ownership funding and also a supporter and investors bond. However if we could agree an extended deal with someone over for example a 10 year period for full naming rights so it's called the <insert company name> training complex, we could develop the training ground over a number of years.

The main problem with us in terms of the board and this isn't a fault of theirs it is just how it turns out, when we have got into the Premier League, the gap of quality between our players and the Premier League is so high that we need to prioritise our spending on players to have a fighting chance of staying up, when we were last there and didn't spunk £100million that we didn't have we were criticised by MoTD and other pundits for not being good enough and comments from Shearer saying we were "miles of it" and a "disgrace" and shouldn't be playing in the Premier League etc and when we ultimately do drop it is then about stabilising the side usually losing a few that have made some form of impression which again affects the bank balance. We also don't know how long the return to the Premier League could be, if it was following the 13 year cycle like it did twice previously we could be in for a long wait for anything to happen. Why not try and get something in place funding wise however that looks and develop it now, even if that is diverting part of a player sale proceeds to the project.

Isn't Shirecliffe already sponsored? By Steelphalt or something like that.
Steelphalt used to sponsor the academy and had their name on the front of the academy building at Shirecliffe. The academy is now sponsored by Skills People Group whose name is now above the entrance to the academy building. I don’t think we have an official first team training ground sponsor but could be wrong?

Steelphalt still sponsor and have naming rights for the Kop.

Hard to say whether it was damaging or not. There's very little legacy from the previous promotions..
You think the club was buying it if we were a mid table never been promoted to the premier league since Warnock club? It's the one legacy the last 7 years can really point to other than talented players joining but they come and go.
