...halve the players wages:D

It sounds simple, but if those players who have stated publicly that they want to stay are really sincere then a season of half wages would be a small sacrifice to pay. Sell those who don't want to do that and then we can keep the young uns.

It isn't rocket science that if the majority of the team that started yesterday played for us next season we would walk the league. Also look at the support they would receive once the fans realise that they are not all money grabbers (they will still earn more in a week than most of us do in 3-4 months). After a season, if we haven't gone up then they can go with their heads held high, or if we have they can negotiate new contracts.

Simples.

Erm, perfect world and all that. If a players in a contract and we can't find a buyer were lumped with them. As much as it would be great to believe they love the club that much, it won't happen. Would you take a cut of that size especially when the average career is only 15 years

Adams said the players have all got relegation clauses in their contracts, though i doubt any agent would agree to a 50% cut.

Bold assumption. A lot of our supporters are already falling into the trap of thinking that league is crap and I can assure you it isnt. League One is very competitive and has a lot of diversity in terms of clubs and the style of play they adopt. This isnt going to be easy and it will take us time to adjust.....any success will hinge upon how quickly we adapt and gel a team. If we can get to grips quickly we should almost certainly be contenders near the top. But there is no guarantee we'll hit the ground running. A good summer with some carefully considered signings will be the key.

If anyone needs reminding of how difficult it can be for big clubs to get out of that league.....might I offer Leeds, Forest, Southampton and the Pigs. Time will tell but I'm not expecting us to coast it.....I would be very surprised if we did.

It is a bold assumption, but with that team we have got 7 points from 9 - including an away win at Reading. The defence needs work, but as an attacking force we have scored 8 in three and created many more chances.

yeah but at a million a year you only need 5 years!!.. sorry but i don't buy that argument anymore.. maybe in the 1970's but with the likes of nosworthy earning more in two weeks than i do in a year then i have scant sympathy

There is this massive pre conception that a footballers career is around 15 years, what a load of shite, at the end of this time if they have been bright they could have passed exams etc to get a job within the game or even a normal job like the rest of us!

I think football is changing; there are a lot of stories of players not finding jobs at the end of their contracts and they know this. They'd rather take a lesser paying contract than no contract at all.

I have an ex footballer who is a regular in my place of work, he was never a Prem player, he was with Mansfield, Grimsby, Boston Utd & Rochdale but he has pretty much finished his playing career as he says he made the worst decision of his life joining Gainsborough Trinity, and he has no qualifications and struggles to find things to fill his day. Has had numerous job interviews and but just walks dogs in the mornings now. It's not all pretty being a professional footballer but I imagine the players we have had recently earn enough to keep them going for a long time.

I think the point about "earning" is a bit steep SP.
I'll bet you earn yours, but Nos - do me a favour.

I'd like to see Adams offer to take a cut. After all, we did quadruple his wages when he joined apparently.
