Thinking of this overnight and I've changed my position on one of those.
I think a big offer for Egan us a risk because normally we should accept as he's coming up to 30 and it's probably a time when we won't get that level of offer again for him. However, he's established, solid and a integral part of how solidly we've started the season. We do not have adequate cover for his starting role and a like for like level but this is where our manager, coaches and talent teams earn their corn.
After the first Premier League season there would have been collective outrage if we had cashed in on Enda if the Chelsea and other interested team rumours were true for good money. The same would have gone for Fleck. But in hindsight the rumoured £10-15m plus bid for either and we should have ripped their arms off.
The simple calculation which takes incredible skill to get right is, has Egan reached his peak, is the offer also at a peak level, and can we effectively immediately replace him at a like for like level.
I dismissed it out of hand as I genuinely didn't think anyone would be interested at a level that could afford us to consider, but if PL are really in for him then it's the one I could see happen. If Leeds are coming in with a bid nprthside of £12M then I think it should be seriously considered, but he has to be replaced because his leaving would mean we are significantly weaker and without adequate cover at the same level.
