Worst opening day?

In fairness, most people were fairly happy with the performance at half time. The quick fire 3rd and 4th killed. The second half was dire though. And we had no big personalities on the pitch to change it.

Everybody thought Crystal Palace,in pre season preparation and the produce on the pitch was bad, this was worse

Yep it's definitely complete rubbish to say if the guy who was directly at fault + gave the ball away for two goals (3rd and 4th) which killed off the game wasn't playing the result might have been different. What a crazy suggestion that is.

You're right it is a team game but youu can't carry passengers.
And don’t forget the second goal or his wild clearance that led to the Seriki tackle that should have been a penalty

Bit of perspective, there was one game last season where a team had 4 shots on target all game and scored 4 goals. Leeds Vs Swansea, in 1100 games last season in the championship.

This was a freak game. They scored a worldie free kick, a very good finish from a tight angle for the 2nd. 3rd was a mistake from RND 4th was a major deflected shot, via a mistake from RND again.

We had lots of very good chances and their keeper made some brilliant saves alongside some last ditch defending.

They will not keep that up this season, we will only improve, especially with 3 more defenders signing (2cbs and a RB at least) alongside playing a CDM instead of Peck who can't do that role.

We were not dominated. That is the key.

The fallout and panic is embarrassing. This was a statistical anomaly. Won't happen again.

These are my views on what I saw yesterday.
It looks like our manager is Postecoglou Mark 2. The proof of this was in the roles that Burrow and Peck were expected to play.

When we got a foot on the ball at the back, Burrows was auxiliary winger,. He was largely the receiver of the ball instead of the deliverer. He was so far forward so early it looked like we were playing 3 at the back.
Burrows linked well enough with Barry, who was definitely a threath.

Peck was in the Vinny role. His passing in the first 20 was horrendous, but he did improve after that. Last season he was deployed as part of a dual DM set up. Vini and Peck complimented each other. Yesterday he was largely overrun. To make it worse, when our attacking philosophy stretched our team, and Bristol took full advantage. Particularly as our "wingers" didn't track back. I didn't think you coukd make it worse but it happened when Cannon, and McCallum came on.

They quite rightly targeted RND more until we finally got Robbo on.

When your CB is gifting 3/4 chances a game, what chance do you have. Not helped aswell with how clinical they were too.

I think the system will be fine, especially when Blaster's fit again, he's more box to box, Gus, Peck and Blaster is a quality midfield 3, Blaster has the engine to get back and help Peck out, giving the license for Gus to do his magic

Blaster is a big miss but a) he’s not likely to be a factor until mid-September at the earliest and b) that midfield 3 would lack any real strength and power …. Something badly missing yesterday.

Bristol City actully played like a W**der team. On the defensive for much of the game but breaking at pace when they got the opportunity. They were lucky to score four, but they carved us open a number of times.

I wonder if the BC fans were complaining about Struber's tactics - try to nick one, hang on and maybe get another.

So this close season the board has:
  • sacked a successful manager who got 92 points
  • appointed an inexperienced first team coach/manager
  • arranged a succession of mainly unimpressive or un challenging pre-season friendlies
  • sold our best/key players
  • not replaced our best/key players
  • slowly arranged some loan signings and some AI ones but left huge gaps in the squad
  • further reduced the athleticism in the squad
  • left it very late in the window to try and sort out an almost complete team re-build.

Great start, almost every decision they have taken they have got wrong. No wonder we got battered today. They’ve cocked it basically and probably for the season. Well done team COH sports! Well done Ruben!!
Im in the wilder had to go camp but rest of your comments are what myself and others said for months
Amazing how bad some of our players were yesterday wouldn't give any more than 5/10

Expect under Wilder we never scored 4*last season

Yes, for a good part of the game we were brilliant with the ball…Unfortunately we were fucking awful without it.

Yes, we may have lost but it was a good game and we saw some great goals. Not turgid like under Wilder.

Playing attractive, open football with a good Plan B is the main thing. If we keep this up, we should be in for a very exciting season.

Bravo! For a minute there you had me…

If, Selles thinks that was a team capable of winning, I am very worried. When we are begging for JLT to come on, wow, how the mighty have fallen. Surely, its basic common sense, if you know a player (Anel) is not staying, you have a replacement lined up to come in asap. COH, Bettis and Selles' are at fault for this. If they insist on waiting for better players to become available, or penny pinch on transfer fee's, its not beyond the realms of possibility, that we could be rock bottom of the league, come the 1st of September.

Still stunned by the second half performance. At half time wed played well and were unlucky to be behind with their goalkeeper pulling off some good saves. Second half was an unmitigated disaster. The players heads dropped and the younger players had no one to lead them. We failed to cope with their formation and Selles was schooled by Struber. What was concerning was his reluctance to change it around and at the end of the day they could and should have scored more as we finished a disorganised rabble with little clue on how to get back into the game.

Yes starting RND and not having an adequate CB was a factor but it was the way in which they cut through our midfield like a red hot knife through butter that was the biggest concern. Hamer in the position he has been allocated isnt working. 6 pre season games told us all that and the fact we needed a DM. Well he was on the bench but there is a lot riding on him over the next few weeks.

3 of their 4 goals came down Burrows side as hes been pushed way up the pitch leaving us further exposed. Dont see the logic in this at all.

The club never seems to learn. Once again prior to the first game of the season we hijack our first game and sell a key player without an adequate replacement in situ. Anel in this case.

Thats one of the worst 45 minutes Ive seen at the Lane for a long time and the alarming fact is we never looked like solving the problems BC were giving us throughout the game.

Yes its only 1 game but it is the manner of the defeat that is concerning. Ive seen enough of SUFC over the years to realise that despite looking good going forward if you cant defend there is only 1 direction you are going in.

Of more concern is the wall of silence emanating from the powers that be and suggestions the board are split on whether to bring in experienced players or go for youngsters on loan. Its becoming shambolic and the lack of movement is in imo down to the owners failing to realise the off field operation required an overhaul not least a Sporting Director. The snail pace approach to recruitment and unseemly haste in getting players out of the door without replacements is a carry over from previous seasons. If you've paid £100 million for the Club and you witness a performance like that it should kick start you into action. The next few days will tell us alot about COH.

Got to be up there? I have a similar feeling to the one I had after Adkins' first game - 0 - 4 at Gillingham. I was shocked by that result and performance and quickly became alarmed at Adkins' incompetence and the bullshit he spouted. I hope Selles isn't going to be a repeat. The only difference is that today's debacle was sadly not quite as much of a shock. With the failure to bring in signings to strengrhen in defence and defensive midfield I feared something like this might happen, especially when I saw RND was starting the game. Yet again we are starting a season unprepared and undercooked. You cannot wait until the end of the transfer window to get your squad together.
Funny said the same to my mate about the Badkins shocker at Gillingham . Absolute shambles with George Long and Collins shatting shit to each other non stop I seem to recall . Top it off serous Kent sunburn 🥵

I’ve always found it bizarre that a league table is actually compiled after one game. But when our beleaguered neighbours inevitably join us at bottom of this hastily put together list, it’s important to remember…one team is getting paid and the other one isn’t.
United chucked in the towel today, and that’s unforgivable for me at Bramall Lane.
It's a 'recent' (24 hour tv coverage) thing because they need a steady stream of irrelevance to talk about to fill the airwaves. Back in the day when football was proper the tables were never published until 4/5 games in.

Binden the worst outfield debut I've seen since Dean Hammond. Not sure if we've had any worse?

Some of that football yesterday was sexy. Just need to work on the basics. That’s why there’s some optimism. Wasn’t like we were absolutely blown away. They picked us off. We need to spend money on our defence. We had arguably the second best defence last season. We probably have one of the worst now.

'When we got a foot on the ball at the back, Burrows was auxiliary winger,. He was largely the receiver of the ball instead of the deliverer.'

That was mainly because of Hamer's insistence on dropping into the defence and his reluctance to go forward, forcing Burrows to make the run rather than Hamer.

Gillingham was clearly worse. Yesterday was just a freak result enabled by selling Anel, which hopefully will be resolved soon

Yes not a patch on the season's before - York, Chesterfield,Harrogate,Rotherham and Huddersfield 🤣

Bindon just looked like some lanky kid there on work experience.

That is correct to a certain extent but I also think that Burrows was instructed as part of our tactics on the day. Particularly in the second half, he was well ahead compared to where he usually positioned himself. Also in the first half he turned up on the right wing.
Either way we were very disorganised. The defense were all over the place. The midfield left big holes in front of the defence. And we played with too wide wingers that didn't track back. The second and third pass were pressured.
