Ake is an established Dutch international with big club experience and 150+ PL games. In terms of reputation and having earned the trust he can handle the big games he's streets ahead of JOC.If he’s as good as Ake then he’ll attract the attention of top six clubs. That’s what makes Ake worth £40m, he’s deemed good enough to play in the champions league. Saying that, JOC’s only 26 so he’s probably got a good five years at the top level, pre-Covid I wouldn’t have been shocked if he’d gone for £40m but I don’t know how much the finances of clubs who haven’t had champions league income etc has been affected. For example, I’m sure he’d improve Palace but how much can they afford?
I genuinely feel like I’ve got less idea of what players are worth than at any point since I started watching football.
Not saying he's better. But that fee (it was a release clause as well) is unrealistic for JOC I think
