Honest discussion about the atmosphere

It needs to be club led. Build a safe standing section and it will be noisy.
Yes, but the reality about Ricky’s efforts was that despite all the calls for an SS, most of it was hot air.

Apparently people were too precious about a seat on the Kop …….
What's your issue with people wanting a better atmosphere and being completely unecessary when anyone suggests an idea for it, if the club lead it and designate areas, safe standing, the likes of you who obviously want to sit down and be quiet will still be able to do it, everybody is happy then. It's a win win for all supporters yet you just keep arguing the case for it. Why exactly?

It was poorly organised and not helped by the army of people on this forum rubbishing the idea from the off.

There was plenty of support on here, supposedly. Clearly other people not thinking a lot of the idea bullied others into not supporting it. In that particular case, empty vessels made very little noise.

Biggers numbers might have led to more interaction from the club.

I want to sit down and not sing, but for those who want to sing and make noise then we should do everything sensibly needed for them to create the atmosphere that we old codgers still enjoy.

Can you read properly? Where have l said l’m against it?

By all means keep fucking moaning about, well everything, but don’t put words into my mouth. Or those “like me”.

It is unlikely to happen while ST sales are so high. There will always be someone who refuses to move. Maybe a smaller section in each stand but the club would need to sort it.

How quickly our expectations have run away with us. Not half a season ago we were the worst team ever.

We weren’t playing newly promoted clubs in the Championship last season. Like it or not, we are a far better team than Plymouth and rightly expect to beat them.

The problem if Ricky does it will be that we’ll be getting FA fines for racist abuse every week and he’ll be singing and shouting about woke snowflakes instead of Blades songs.

So did the boring people stop you singing, making a noise?
It was a long time ago, so can’t recall. But I do know that there are a few loud people who start songs and chants that others (like me) then join in with. I’ve never had the confidence to be an instigator.

One thing I think Ricky was right about is that singing on the kop is quite fragmented, two or three pockets are often accidentally competing with each other. This is largely due to seating IMO. In the old standing days, they would congregate more effectively, creating a better atmosphere.

Could've fucking fooled me, seem to argue every case and constantly banging on about the fact it didn't work when a fan tried a singing section, I'll moan about what I fucking want too.

They can't refuse to move, the club own the seat, not us.

Still not seen a single suggestion of what we can realistically do, with what we've actually got to work with

If you're waiting for the club to relocate ST holders or create a standing area (with the council's permission!) you'll be waiting a long time. By the time that happened, everyone wanting to sing now will be wanting to watch the game in peace due to extreme old age

It probably would need to be club led, but as above, that won't happen. That leaves it up to the supporters. Who realistically is going to try? Maybe it would have to be someone we all idolise, like Jimmy Ramble...... 'You won't BELIEVE what PLANS I have to IMPROVE the ATMOSPHERE at Bramall Lane'

Good luck to anybody who does try..... but I won't hold my breath. I think in reality we're now very accepting of the permanent deterioration. As was inevitable. It was never going to get better without forcing the issue

It's simply this. But in principle it's easy to sort (unrestricted seating in a section), in practice SAG wouldn't sanction it, I suspect.

The best bet would be safe standing, which would shift along many of the ageing cardboard cutouts that now populate what was once the unofficial singing section.

And safe standing isn't coming until a kop rebuild, at best.

If we agree there's 3 pockets of singing fans at the back of the kop.. let's put them into actual competition. Pocket with highest avg decibels each month gets a prize... meet n greet players, discounted away travel, any other incentives.

Singing only, no airhorns or other bollocks.

So you are unable to read properly then.

Do you know what “constantly” means?

Edit. Of course you do. For an example. You never stop moaning. About everything. On any thread. That’s “constantly”.

I moan about the atmosphere which is agreement with thousands of others, I moan about brewster, which is in agreement with 99% of others. Never ever moan if we lose or kick off about the team. So I'm moaning for things that I think will help the club. Do you not agree safe standing areas, a reset on all season tickets so like minded people can be together would benefit the club? Surely you do?

Here’s a thought. Why don’t people save the energy they use complaining about the atmosphere on here ( where it will make absolutely no difference), and then expend that energy in contributing to the creation of an atmosphere the next time they visit the ground ( where it will make all the difference).
A radical idea, I know, and one which requires that very difficult step from sitting and moaning to standing and doing, but why not give it a try?
If you’re not sure what to do, have a look at the people around you on Boxing Day, who will be creating a great atmosphere against Burnley, and see if you can follow their example. The only person that can stop you from doing this is yourself.

The only people who can create an atmosphere are us, the fans, aided and abettedby what goes on on the pitch.
It can't be created artificially (well, it can't at Bramall Lane where we're quite a dour bunch!), so it's down to us. Me and Esteemed Forgeblade stand on row XX on the kop. The standing continues for about 3 rows in front of us. The people around us (and us) don't shout and sing all the time, but we do when there's summat to sing and shout about. I think that's part of the problem. Firstly, there must be something of a hangover from the recent appalling seasons in the PL. If that's the prize, who wants it? Secondly, we are doing well, I'm not going to slag the team off, but generally it's not very exciting to watch. It's competent football, but it's not Nuddy dismantling Leeds, or Paul thingy (Brummy lad, Warnock signing, late 90's), tearing down the right wing, or Michael Brown just chancing his arm, having a pop and it going in! Or even the Wilder league 1 season, or those cup games when we were in league 1. There was nowt wrong with the atmosphere on Saturday when Gus's screamer went in, but perhaps it didn't continue because the team didn't. We don't, by and large, play like that any more.
Times change, and football has changed too, not always for the better. I think a more open and risky style of play could result in a louder crowd, but it could also result in a less favourable league position. People just don't get excited about risk averse football.

Have you ever tried to start a chant on the kop when you're not sat at the back?

Everyone around you just looks at you like you're from Mars.

Its unfortunate, but it HAS to be initiated from the back of the kop or it just doesn't happen.
