Why do footballers (and ex footballers) have such extravagant signatures? Anyone ever pondered that? It’s not because they fancy themselves a bit is it?View attachment 43777 Bought it today and who was walking past? So he signed it for my Dad! Should have known it was going to be a good day!

You’re in luckDanny04 i cancelled my order with Waterstones, as it said that their still waiting for publication
So if stocks are running low, I just wondered if you’ll be doing a reprint...I’ll have to wait till I can get to the club shop, which will be for the game v Birmingham![]()
Perhaps you have jumped in with both feet a year too early considering the league position we're in.
Not at all . In fact, precisely the opposite . It's a perfect opportunity for another in 6 months to a years time .
That's not a dig Danny04 by the way . It sounds like you've done the topic proud if the reactions on here are anything to go by and there's clearly a market for it so why not a part 2 when we are in the PL
I'm just waiting for Part 1 it to be available on Kindle . Any further update on when itll be available online or am i still looking at December ?
Excellent got mine and it’s signed thanks to my Son
Thanks for thatWhy? Did your son sign it?Anyway...
I’ve just finished ‘He’s One Of Our Own’ and here’s my thoughts.
This book is worthy of a place on the bookshelves of everybody who has seen the rebirth of our beloved Blades under Chris Wilder and Alan Knill. It is not an esoteric, blow-by-blow account from the day our managerial team breezed into Bramall Lane at the start of the 2016-17 season – a season which would see us blow League One away by gaining 100 points, getting promotion and dispersing the black clouds that had loomed over Bramall Lane for too long.
While offering unique insights into Chris Wilder, this is no work of hagiography. We are allowed ‘behind the scenes’ to see the passion, loyalty, professionalism and humour of Chris – and the author.
On Page 121 – on the morning of our memorable win at Hillsborough on 24th September 2017 – Dany writes:
“…a sunny Sunday in the Steel City, thousands of runners pounded the pavement around the gruelling city-centre 10k course but all attentions soon turned to the border of Barnsley for the 128th instalment of derby day drama.”
There are also valuable and insightful contributions from – among others – players such as Coutts, Duffy, Slater and Jake Wright players who, I guarantee, will look out for Blades scores for many years to come, wherever their careers take them. As Alan Knill says in the book:
“A job like any other – at a club like no other.”
There are also fine memories and contributions from several of our supporters.
But the denouement of this remarkable period in our history comes not at the end of this book, but in several asides within the book about the 24th September encounter.
On Page 125, “Hillsborough was rocking – literally. (After Wednesday made it 2-2). From the press seats in Wednesday’s South Stand, the foundations of the ground were shaking as Owls fans in all four stands of the ground bounced to their signature anti-Blades song.”
Passion? Or an ancient stadium on its last legs?
On Page 127, Wilder says (re. Leon Clarke’s two goals):
“To take the game away from them (Wednesday) at that period was a great feeling; it really put a dagger into their heart.”
On Pages 185 re. the 0-0 draw at Bramall Lane in the return fixture on January 12, 2018:
“United supporters did take great delight in the reaction of Wednesday’s supporters to the goalless draw…Wednesday’s players threw their shirts into the joyous crowd in the away end…at the Rawson Spring pub near Hillsborough, one fan recalled his embarrassment at seeing fellow Owls supporters celebrating on tables after avoiding what they felt was an inevitable thumping at the home of their biggest rivals.”
And on Page 186, Chris Wilder says:
“…they were chucking shirts into the crowd, when they were 15th in the Championship. If ever there was a moment to look back and ask if we have closed the gap…I think that was it.”
So, more than mere words and dry statistics, this shows the progress we’ve made under CW and AK. We haven’t just rammed the words of the Wednesday fans back down their throats after 6 long years in the Wilder-less wilderness, we’ve caught them and overtaken them. Despite having a transfer budget of around a tenth of theirs. While Wednesday fans will circle the two ‘derby days’ on their calendars, we look forward to playing around six other teams – Villa, Stoke, Derby, WBA etc. – in games of far more importance to United. Games at the business end of the table.
So thanks and well done again, Danny04 . My one disappointment in the book? My eye usually alights on a typo like a mountain goat spying a good foot hold. I couldn’t find a single one. Bugger.![]()
Can't wait for my copy to arrive now!
Clicked on the link on page one and did it from there or rather, the missus did.Where did you order it from mate?
Are you handling all that side yourself then? And packaging, time, materials and selling fees
Of course, DM me the name though - I’d hate to send that to the wrong person and it could take a bit of explainingI bought the book a couple of hours ago
Yo Danny, as well as your signature can i get a big lipstick print on the book from your very lips, like they used to do on 50s record sleeves?
I am. Don’t get me started on the age of Amazon. I’ve learned a bit about that lately! Are you handling all that side yourself then?
It was more a comment on the age of Amazon than anything else. Free postage is something people get used to, despite the old Yorkshireism.
