I’m really disappointed today with him, it’s ok saving the salah chance shortly after, but it’s the basics that we expect, you could have chucked your hat on that one.. bread and butter goalkeeping..

However... how old is he?

It’s a shame that we got nothing from that game, it’s a bigger shame we gave them all three points with that mistake..

We’d have been on cloud nine with a point and that’s why I’m criticising, he gets beat by a great move n we lose nobody gives a shit, but it’s schoolboy stuff doing that..

We got plenty of games left anyway UTB
John Holmes might have saved it.

Lets start with the bad points. He cost us the game today. Big clanger.

However, he is a legend at this club already so i'm sure he can bounce back.

Even pulled off a worldie from Salah straight after.

Gutted for him and he will be gutted the most.

Wilder will pick him and us up after that.

So unfortunate to lose. Should have had a draw at the very least.

UTB.

I like the sentiment, but dislike the misuse of the word "legend". No he's not a legend for this club. Legends are players who ultimately are employed by this club - that's the first criteria. Secondly, they must make an outstanding contribution over a number of years. He's not either.

When you cheaply start calling young loan players "legends" you devalue the contribution of true legends like Shaw, Woodward, Currie, Edwards, Deane, Agana, Sharp. It's offensive actually, although no doubt you didn't mean it that way.

You were spot on with your last sentence though.

Henderson will be back at Man Utd at the end of this season - and probably loaned out somewhere else next season. We have to look after our own and I'm really hoping this guy Verrips, is as good as we've heard he is ("Best keeper in Belgium") because we need to have our own players wearing our own shirts ultimately.

I’m not writing Hendo off but for me the two key things I want to see in a keeper are someone who commands his area and who rarely makes mistakes. Those are precisely the two areas that Hendo needs to improve.

Various players made mistakes today. Egan, who was otherwise excellent, was very fortunate not to be punished for his slip near halfway. Basham, also great today, failed to track Mane’s chance first half that also should have been punished. In contrast, Henderson makes one big mistake and it’s a crucial one – the nature of being a goalkeeper. Meanwhile Fleck, probably our best player, makes a mistake in opting to cut onto his weaker right foot when he had a great chance in the box.

I think Wilder’s response is fair enough, and I’m sure Henderson is a big enough character to respond in the right way. I was pleased the crowd opted to immediately respond positively to the players and Henderson himself – we’ve come a long way from the dark days of Long being sarcastically cheered for claiming a ball after making a mistake less serious than the one made today.

Liverpool and Man City have only had decent keepers for a couple of seasons, there are maybe 6 or 7 keepers in the world who would make hardly any mistakes and command their area perfectly, and they won't be coming to us.

He commands his area well, he's not David Seaman or Schmeichel, but he's decent at it, his problem is not imposing himself enough, he needs to let defenders know he's there and make balls his, he's a precision instrument, needs to let loose and just make things his, no matter what.

To make one howler is one thing. To make two in only four matches is something else. Another one in the next five to six matches regardless of result and Wilder will have no choice but to drop him.

He wants to be #1 for Man Utd one day. Well he needs to start resembling Peter Schmeichel and not Massimo Taibi!

Me too Taipei - cost 10 points last season with his clangers and he's on target to exceed that this season.
Worst post of the year. How the fuck did he cost us 10 points? Leeds at home cost us 2, Villa away cost us a couple but you can point the finger at JOC as well. You could also possibly count Stoke at home but what about the points he saved us? Are you saying we would have been Champions if we had played a different keeper? Where’s the other 4 points you reckon he cost us? I despair with some of our fans at times. He is an excellent keeper and Wilder is right. He needs to cut those mistakes out to become world class but let’s not hang him out to dry for the sake of it eh?

I think Dean Henderson has got to stop believing his own hype in a way. A little less arrogance might help. Don’t get me wrong I like the bloke but I just don’t think he is as good as he thinks he is. Time to knuckle down, learn and improve. A bit of decent competition on the bench could help also, he thinks he can drop bollocks but is undroppable.

plus the ball was like a soap bar because of the rain

Just a small point but the gloves the 'keepers wear these days are amazing, no matter how wet the balls get they are comparatively easy to hold these days. Mistakes like Deans today are made purely from a lack of concentration, in his head he had already gathered the ball up & was on his way to an upright position to release the ball to a player. I think he is still in credit at the moment but really needs to concentrate on doing the "bread & butter" stuff consistently, once he does his outstanding shot stopping ability will shine through.

How many times did Hendo make crucial saves over the last 2 years to get us here playing against the so called best team in europe, of course he might have a mistake in him..I have...you have we all have...we are only human after all....pool will be thinking tonight..."how the ferk did we get sommat out of today", no consolation to us I know...ferk it though proud as buggery....

ooh my keyboards all wibbly wobbly....h'mmmmm wonder what might cause that
Has your s-l1600.pngblown?

A few people have mentioned dropping him.

Who is coming in to replace him? Simon 'oh fuck a long shot' Moore?

Give over. He needs to pull his socks up. He needs to concentrate on becoming a good keeper and not think he's already made it. I think the contract, England U-21s and playing in the Premier League has got to him a bit. Not much. I think he's a good lad and one who will knuckle down and improve.

How old is Hendo now 22 ? At what age does he become "not young and still learning ffs" I know he pulls off some spectacular saves but I do wonder WTF he does with our goalkeeping coach he is no better than he was last season. He can't kick a ball straight another kicked straight into touch today, he never ever come out to collect a cross and in the big games he always makes a mistake just like last season. This is the reason he is here and not playing for Man Utd, and England you're havin a laff Deano. The lad needs to shut his big gob and get some extra training done on the basics of goalkeeping.
Last season we could forgive him making a few mistakes but we are in the big boys league now, keep making these mistakes and questions have to be asked as to why we are giving experience to another clubs keeper to our detriment. We may as well play one of our young keepers and let them learn on the job, having said that at 22 and a full year playing in a top Championship team he should really no be making the errors he has this season. Like Wilder says he has to do better, no time for a arm round his shoulders he needs a kick up the arse.

Goalkeepers peak at 30/31 so he is young. Lloris dropped a bollock today. It happens. He needs to knuckle down. He has the potential to be an England keeper. Just needs to prove it.

Blistering from Chris but that’s how I see it too.

Didn’t really like Wilder’s response on it. I hope he isn’t letting this praise for straight talking go to his head. There’s being a straight shooter, and then there’s being provocative for the sake of it. He’s flirted with that a few times in the last month or so. Felt a bit unnecessary to me.

CW knows what he's doing and knows his players. Nothing wrong with his statement, he knows that's what hendo will respond to.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he gets dropped for the next game. Wilder is ruthless and he'll want the message to go out that no-one is immune from competition/scrutiny.

I'm not sure if he'd put Moore or Verrips in though.

I would expect Henderson to keep his place for now but not for much longer if these mistakes keep happening. He needs to do a lot of training of those type of shots, he was also no-where the Barnes goal from a similar position

If the strikers had done their job, faultlessly, we wouldn’t be having this thread.

I’ve read and written some nonsense in my time on here... but this thread has some proper crap on it.
That maybe true but our leading scorer hasn't even started a game yet , and if Hendo had done his job, faultlessly, we wouldn’t be having this thread.

As he should be. One of our weapons is the quick release and I'm glad Hendo was looking for it. Other keepers could have parried it or sat on it but Hendo felt confident enough to catch it in the air, for a quick release. The shot took a bounce off the floor that altered its trajectory slightly, and he was very unlucky to see it squirm under him. I hope he carries on in the same confident manner. All keepers have bad luck at times, even Peter Schmeichel, who Hendo reminds me of

Interesting that David Seaman sent that tweet. A good moment to show the funniest, and possibly best goal in football, from the last minute of extra time in the UEFA Cup Final. The Spanish commentators laughter following the goal is also good value

And Seaman reprised this mistake during the World Cup just a few, short years later.
