I refer you to his 3 on 1 save against Norwich at home last season when they should have been flagged offside, that was match winning.
He is going to earn us more points than he costs us. Yes he has a few mistakes in him but I challenge anyone to find me a young keeper who doesn’t. Christ, even Lloris had a shocker yesterday and he’s the number one for the world champions. It happens. Hendo is a cracking keeper and will go far in his career, hopefully a lot of it will be with us.
I agree that one on one he is excellent as shown a good number of times, including yesterday and at Everton last week.
I think his shot stopping abilities have yet to be regularly tested as our defenders are very good at getting blocks in and preventing the shots in the first place.
I think that his command of his area varies from minute to minute. Sometimes he is very good and sometime he is not.
This brings me on to his decision making and I worry about that. I think he can be indecisive and that is a real problem as it also leads to indecision in the other defenders if they don't know what the keeper is going to do. He needs to make his mind up a little quicker and back himself by positive actions. He is particularly poor on through balls and balls over the top, and is often slow to come for them. Sometimes he will get it wrong but if he makes the right decisions more often than not he will be a very very good keeper. This was definitely the biggest strength of Simon Tracey's even if occasionally it did make a complete fool of him.
Finally, his distribution is terrible and definitely needs some work. Far too many balls go straight from his boot into the south stand.
I don't know about the goal but schmeichel definitely gave Henderson a master class in ball distribution
Bottom line is that for me, he could be a very good keeper but he still has a long way to go to get there.
I see from an Alan Nixon tweet this morning that now De Gea has signed a new contract Man United are likely to want to sell him at the end of this season, and will be hoping to get £20m for him.
I hope we don't pay that unless there are significant improvements in his game.
Bottom line, I think he's a decent keeper but he's not yet proved himself any better than that, and we need better in the PL.
