Okay, okay, I've been lurking for a few days and finally decided to say hello properly. :)

A friend of mine got me hooked on the Blades a couple years back now, a feat of which she is extraordinarily proud. She is a huge all-around sports fan and I grew up with an avid baseball fan in the form of mom - yes, we're talking shouting, yelling, beating the furniture, and all that good, fun stuff. And my sister finds it endlessly amusing that I've gone and turned into the same type of sports fan - the aforementioned shouting, yelling, beating the furniture, and all that good, fun stuff - for football proper. (I may be American, but I can't stand American football; so football is football and not soccer.)

Anyway, said friend couldn't follow a match while she was at work and was complaining to me about it (also at work - different states though), and I said I'd text her the updates as I could. Well, turns out, me, a computer with net, and a working sound card and headphones managed to find the match online for my audio pleasure and that's what got me. I loved listening to the match and hearing the fans so totally devoted to their club. Couldn't wait to do it again. (Yes, each time I listened at that place I managed to unplug the headphones briefly and the sounds of Sheffield filled the area... *snickers*) And thus started my fandom affiliation. She and I listen to every match through the MatchLive console and when possible, catch them through FSC (although that probably won't happen this season *sighs*). I'd love to be able to catch the matches online, but I'm a bit hesitant with most of those saturday-football sites, although I did find one that is PayPal authenticated, so that does have some potential. I'd been looking for a good place to chat about the matches with other fans, as obviously, can't pop on down to the local pub around here, and hadn't had much luck til I stumbled upon you guys. Lurking a bit, I found the information good, the conversation witty and dry, and the overall atmosphere very warm and welcoming.

So anywho, there's how I came to find you and the Blades in general. Curious...am I the only American on board round here? Hopefully, my relative newbie status won't be too much of a negative. I may not talk much for a while til I get my footing around here, but I'll be lurking. Oh, I might add that I tend to type fast and furious and be very long-winded in type. But you might have noticed that already. :D

Favorite Players: Hulse, Paddy, Jags, Morgan
No, I don't care where he's going, I still like Jags; love Paddy for so many reasons; and I was nearly sick when I *heard* the ankle break on Hulse...probably the only time I was glad not to be able to watch the match on tv! And ya just gotta love Morgan. He's so very honest about being a brawler, everybody knows it, and yet he totally gets away with it. :D

Here goes nuthin... *clicks submit*

Hello... welcome to the forum :)

Come From Away comes from Canada but as far as I know, you're our first Stateside Blade :)

Hope we can be of service as the season rolls around!

:o Awww, thanks guys. As I get more chatty, just let me know if I say something that needs deciphering. The southern US is chock full of interesting sayings that I've had to translate for friends around the world before, so just pipe up if something sounds weird. ;) I have to say, one of my most amusing ones was trying to explain the concept of biscuits'n'gravy to an Aussie. :D And nevermind me if I use expressions local to you, either. I've picked up so many phrases from around the world, it's entirely natural to me by now. And as for how it is here, stateside? It's HOT and only going to get hotter. And I really hate the ruddy heat. We're talkin low 90s and then easily near 100+ (I think that roughly converts to 32-37+ C?) probably now through Sept. And even if summer doesn't 'officially' start for another few days, the fireflies are already out and that's the start of summer. Thankfully, I'm out of the deep south, but not far enough north yet. I need to move somewhere where the highs don't get above 85 and I barely need a/c. You can always pile on more layers when it's cold, but you can only take off so much before you're arrested for indecent exposure. Besides, some parts of the anatomy should never be sunburned.

Anyway, am very much looking forward to the start of the season, no matter where it finally ends up. I'm in withdrawal! Will have to start getting up early on Saturdays again and will likely miss every Tuesday match as that's right in the tail-end of my work day, but man, I'm looking forward to hearing Radio Sheffield again. And Woot! Go me for being the first Stateside Blade on board here. May have to put that in a sig line. There are a few of us around, so maybe you'll wind up with a few more before long.

They are all very welcome and if you ever need anything translating, give us a shout :D

The Yorkshire accent doesn't translate very well outside the confines of the county... not that we bloody care :D

Hell, like *I* care! I adore the accent! :D I'm a sucker for accents anyway, but it's so rich and rolling and warm and rumbly.

...

Hmmm, maybe I should be quiet now. ;)

I'm still trying to get over that "I'm the newb and no one wants to hear what I think but why am I here if not to chat" thing, so forgive slow responses. :o I guess the biggest problem I have is quite silly. It's rather hard to say, "Up the Blades!" as "Up" something round here is...well, not so kind. I'm workin on it though. ;)

Yes I am exceedingly proud of my self for bringing you into the fold and forever grateful for those match updates !

Thank you so much for pointing this place out to me I am sure I am going to like it here!
