If he’s brilliant he helps us secure our place in the league, and we end up getting a profit if he’s sold. Given we probably wouldn’t be able to have won his battle without agreeing to that, it seems like a clever bit of flexibility we’ve shown.

If we end up selling a £50m player in 3 years for £35m, we’re not losing out on £15m as the player wouldn’t have joined otherwise.
