That must have taken him to 12 points- you dont get a ban for a 1 off offence. If it was there would be literally millions of banned drivers.

I think you might have read it wrong....I’m in full scale rant mode after reading that, so if think he shouldn’t have been banned, move on, you won’t like this.
The magistrate said:
Magistrate Nick Williams, who chaired the hearing, said: "We feel that disqualification would not put you in financial difficulties or risk losing your house.
"As far as your children, alternative mechanisms can be arranged, we are sure, to collect them from school.
"We view this as an inconvenience rather than a hardship."
That last sentence has set me off, that sums up everything that’s been wrong with the British justice system since the 1970’s
"We view this as an inconvenience rather than a hardship."
Magistrate Nick Williams, you are an utter cunt, the man is a convicted criminal any punishment you administer absolutely should be a hardship, he has been found guilty of a crime you should be punishing the man not inconveniencing him, if a ban is an not a hardship then fine him 5 million quid.
Another criminal who thought the totting up system to a ban didn’t apply to him, walking away pissing his pants, a grand a week on taxis is fuck all to him. He should be made to employ a full time chauffeur, then at least someone would get a job out of his criminality.
I think you might have read it wrong....
and i can only think you must have some skin in the game - fining someone £5m for 7mph over the speed limit...?!
Right. I got caught doing exactly 57 in a 50 on the M5 last month. It was 3pts and £100 quid. He just happened to already have 9 pts.You don't receive an instant ban from driving if doing 57mph in a 50mph zone is your only offence.
Except it clearly wasn’tI was caught doing 71 in a 60 stretch of smart motorway. I had the choice of three points or a motorway awareness course. It went nowhere near court, and neither would this have if it was an isolated, first-time offence.
No I haven't read it wrong.
"The ex-Blades boss was caught driving at 57mph in a 50mph zone on the M1 in South Yorkshire in July 2023."
"The court heard the offence would result in him being disqualified from driving due to previous points accumulated, but Heckingbottom appeared in person on Tuesday to make an exceptional hardship application."
OK so I did pull the number 5M out of my arse, I should have said 99% of his disposable income for the next 5 years.
He must have accumulated 12 points or more , you will be banned for 12 points unless you can prove you need the car for caring for dependent children or caring for dependent adults for example , in which case the court will consider fine only .
You have. The magistrate is explaining to Hecky 12 Points that arranging child care etc is not a hardship to him, just an inconvenience and is not an excuse to try to escape a ban.
I don’t think a speeding ban goes on one’s criminal record. A lawyer - a real one please - will know.
If the magistrate made an error it’s for not jailing him for continuing picking Norwood when he’d gone useless……
As an aside, when Hecky was employed full time who picked the kids up then?
Breaching the Road Traffic Act 1988 is in itself a criminal offence. A ban however for speeding is not deemed imprisonable so does not normally go on your criminal record whereas drink driving by way of example does. You have. The magistrate is explaining to Hecky 12 Points that arranging child care etc is not a hardship to him, just an inconvenience and is not an excuse to try to escape a ban.

I know, that’s exactly my point. I got a lesser punishment for a greater offence. The story doesn’t make it clear that it’s not just a sanction for going 57mph in a 50 zone. I’ve got no sympathy for recidivists who can’t learn their lesson.Except it clearly wasn’t
