Last season was pretty bad for them, but this year he got them to solid midtable where they always finish. Not sure what they expect from him.

Maybe they saw Bristol City last year and thought "Now it's our time to overachieve".

Short of stumbling across a few game changing signings, Preston are just going to tread water until there comes a season where they end up getting a few injuries that they can't adequately cover and end up going down.

For what its worth, I really enjoyed watching Hecky's sides in the Championship and had he not had the rug pulled from under him when we went up, we'd have had a team that could have had a chance of making a better go of it than we managed.

I can certainly understand Preston's support being frustrated, being in mid-table year upon year without really having anything to shout about. They've been skint for a long time and often had to sell their better players, but they're quite fortunate they're a solid Champ club, rather than being stuck in League One. Aside from 24/25, they've never really been threatened with relegation, and with the parachute sides coming down - the wages, big transfer fees, it's much easier said than done to compete with those teams.

Easy to make Hecky the fall guy, but he also made some really good loan signings over last summer - Alfie Devine, Lewis Dobbin, even Jebbison scored the occasional goal. Didn't they end up sacking Alex Neil? That went well. If/when Wilder does leave, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with Hecky coming back. He did a brilliant job with us, promotion, an FA Cup semi-final and he had absolutely no chance in the Prem when we decided to sell Berge and Ndiaye on the eve of the season. I don't have a bad word to say about him, and will always be happy to see him and Stuart McCall doing well.

O'Leary said he'd pay £10m for him. Ridsdale came back to tell him a deal had been agreed at £18m and if D'OL had known he'd carry on negotiating at that price, he'd have pulled the plug.

Doesn’t really read like that to me.

‘Restricted budget’ is specifically mentioned and they are looking to structure a 4.5m transfer over 3/4 years, most clubs pay in instalments but I’d be surprised if most championship clubs couldn’t do a deal at 1-1.5m a year for one of their top targets.

For those wanting a DoF, maybe someone like Hecky could be a consideration.

He’s an intelligent guy and working on infrastructure and structures would probably be a good use of his talents.

We do need better scouting.

As well as accountability the other issue I have with United and a DoF is that I saw first hand HIW half arsed we committed to Slav. If I thought we would genuinely commit then I can see the positives.

I can just see United doing things on the cheap, tying much of the development to promotion on the field only and it simply being a wasted concept.

It does feel if the owners were going to do this then they would have done it already.

He's had an up and down Preston stint.

Think if they stick with him he will turn them round enough.

Like Wilder and like Hecky. Would have been fascinating to see how we would have done when Hecky took us up if we were allowed to spend 30-40m more.

Injuries have followed him around.
Because he has full tilt training sessions. Which often show results on the pitch but then injuries start to follow.

In the promotion season he clearly ended up pulling back the intensity around November/December because players were dropping like flies. We were fortunate that the likes of Ndiaye rode the season out injury free.

I have seen this elsewhere and it seems to be a feature of someone copy and pasting something from elsewhere that is hard coded as black font, easily solved by pasting as plain text

I don’t disagree with that point of view but I’d also not be against Hecky coming back, I just think he would be a good fit for the here and now.
