That is about 15 - 20 minutes from the centre, between Sheffield and Manchester

Hmm. There are quite a few places worth visiting within 15-20 minutes of Brentford as well.

Are we hoping Dean is a big nature lover?

Which ones your place then!! Sheffield didn't look much like that to me when I was wondering about before the eventful 2-2 draw a few years ago !

Mine's the left-hand tower (the staff live in the right-hand tower...)

It's actually Derwent Reservoir (used as practice for the Dam Buster raids) and is about 20 minutes outside Sheffield, but there are plenty of equally-splindiferous places much, much nearer the centre (Porter Clough, Whiteley Woods etc.)

Seriously, when there were murmurings about Warburton looking for a new club, I thought 'If I were McCabe, I'd pick him up at the station and, 20-25 minutes later, you'd be driving round scenery like this. Sold!' Oh, sure. Sheffield - like any town and city - has it's share of dumps and shitholes (Hillsborough, Parson Cross, Pitsmoor etc.), but for a fair-sized city it has stunning stuff just outside. Needless to say, young Harlee wouldn't be looking to live in a dump area and, for the price of a bedsit above a kebab shop in Brentford he could have views similar to the above (Michael Tonge used to have a nice pad corner of Coldwell Lane/Manchester Road with stunning views. I think he paid ca. £250k...)

So when we're saying 'Why would X come here?' we should look at the bigger picture. Sheffield has quality/pace of life, 'friendly' girls and enough nitrous oxide you could shake a stick at. Many ex-players/managers who have seen a bit of the world don't seem to be in any rush to leave.

Wendy's secretary-manager, Eric Taylor, was keen on signing Ron Springett from QPR so when he picked him up at Midland station, instead of driving through the industrial area, he drove the sceneric route via the Rivelin and this convinced Springett to sign for them!

Maybe the way forward, but by using the modern idiom. Send his missus on twitter/facebook whatever loads of pics of the scenic parts of Sheffield and surrounding area.

Be nice if he did come but i cant see him joining hes focused on cementing his place in the starting 11 at Brentford so unless we turn up with some decent cash i dont think either party will part company. Shame really looks a decent prospect but we have our own "prospects" at the end of the day

This might have been a better comparison:

Sheffield still wins though! :D
Is that near Park roundabout?
If it is we used to go boating on there in the 60's. They had rowing boats and we always got a bollocking for breaking the oars.
We used to have water fights further up the canal.
You could guarantee we would come out in funny spots and rashes a few days later. :)

Aye, Canal basin or Victoria Quays to give it it's posh new name. The old wharf buildings at the far end are now plush apartments. A few ex-players lived in some of those I was told. Picture below gives you a better view of the roundabout etc.

Pollution was pretty bad in them days, seem to remember summat in the 70's, a load of kids from ours and other schools did this voluntary let's clean up the River Don thing one weekend (I didn't go) and loads of kids were off sick on the monday.

We also had a school trip to the canal basin in the late 70's on a barge. The "water" was yellow and stunk. Not sure If anyone bothered with a risk assessment back then.

Had he not included "#problems" in that tweet then I'd say it certainly does support the rumours that he could be on his way here.

But if he is talking about a transfer to the blades then why would he describe it as a problem?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Think people are reading too much into it.

(Hope I'm wrong though) ;)

Exactly, it's not a problem it's an oppourtunity.

Nothing to see here.

sounds like Blackburn beck where we used to play sometimes, except that was rust coloured and stank. Think it was a stretch that fed into, rather than out of, Blackburn Meadows but not 100% sure. Guess I survived :-)

Yep that's right you can see Hyde Park Flats now. We were off Park Hill so it was a hop skip and a jump. Looks reight posh now. :)

...and even Pitsmoor has great views of the City, and Hillsborough has a swamp.

Maybe we've offered him "mo' money", which, if you're au fait with Notorious B.I.G's lyrics, of course leads to mo' problems.

Maxsters not been on for a bit

Probably bashing himself into a frenzy at the prospect of a FOURTH signing for us.
