Yeah why these fucking no marks? Oh some ex-Pig QPR fan and a proper meh ex-midfielder have an opinion that we all need to know about?
The ex pig QPR fan referred to us as “we”.

And for any child growing up in the 70’s in Liverpool’s dominance, Gary Hamson needs no further qualification. :)

The more attractive out fit is usually the more attractive coach/manager most players sign for the man not the club
Not really pal money is football football is money, if us or Bristol City go for the same player you'd back us to sign him because of were we have come from an the money earnt not because of whose in charge

Simon Stainrod - "If I owned the club I would have asked him what do you need to maintain our progress and made sure he had it"

Which is exactly what happened.

The "Should have followed Norwich" thing is grinding my gears. Norwich have a director of football who makes the signings and appointed an unknown foreigner to coach them. That's the Norwich model and it's one people seem petrified The Prince will do.

To be fair I think they mean go down keep the manager sell a couple of players tweak the squad go straight back up.

I think the norwich model people refer to is
  • don’t sell the best players
  • keep the manager
  • go again
Although in fairness to Norwich they didn’t spend anything on their team.
I think someone should make that clear to Lineker and many others as to why we can’t “do a Norwich” and to suggest we can shows how little they know.

Regarding the "Norwich" way, it's not just a D of F, they have brought through and kept a lot of good young players, only selling them for decent money. Under Wilder's watch, Dominic Calvin Lewin, che Adams and David Brooks were sold for peanuts.

We all wanted that I think. It’s not following Norwich though. Following Norwich would be scrapping the idea of a manager and replacing him with a head coach whilst letting a director of football take charge of the signings. Norwich have been successful this season for many reason and keeping Farke is definitely one. Farke wasn't the whole club though like Wilder was with us. They could have lost Farke and there's a good chance they'd still have done well because the system they have behind the scenes. We had Chris Wilder and his immediate staff. The reason we may fail next season isn't just because we have lost Wilder but because Wilder basically was the club in a way you rarely see these days. We are starting from scratch now because he's gone whereas Farke is just a part of their strategy.

There are not many British managers with a proven track record that would be happy working with a DoF who is in charge of transfers. Looks like we will have a foreigner who will be the head coach.

Brexit regs would make that difficult I believe. If I remember a post from the other day on here correctly, any foreign manager has to have worked in one of Europe's top 5 leagues for 3 out of the last 5 seasons. Not sure if already being in the UK means that's not the case.

Seems harsh but I believe the person who posted it did their homework. If that'd been the case for a while, wouldn't have had managers like Nuno at Wolves or Solskjaer.

There's lots of xenophobic blades fans it seems who want to go back to the 1970s.
We are not going to be successful by not having 'foreign' players.
We are not going to be successful by not wanting a 'foreign' manager.
'Foreign' players and managers are usually better than English ones hence why the most successful teams in English football over the last 10 to 15 years hardly have any English players. The best English manager is probably Wilder! And the best British manager probably Brenda Rogers.
If you want a team of English or local players then League 1 or 2 is probably the best we can hope for. I have a bit more ambition for my club than that so i have to embrace what it might take to achieve success. Would I prefer an all English team, yes why not, ideally all from Sheffield or Yorkshire but its never, ever going to happen now....

And this is basically the choice really. Our current way of working is out of date. It required a minor miracle (Wilder, system, momentum, no injuries, all players on top form, more money than anyone expexted) to succeed and keep us up.

There aren't many British managers who have had the responsibility to spend £100m+ on players either.

I think this United season and the struggle to upgrade the team will be used by other owners to move away from managers who do everything. The higher you go you are competing with clubs who have hundreds of staff involved in running the club. It's too much for one man to do over a long period, especially if you need to rebuild.

Won't clear it but it'd open a window and maybe let some stench out.

As for the above, I just think it's in the same category as Wit and Phipps. We all love Wilder but we also have all seen him allude to going until he gets his way multiple times, and that's been for the clubs benefit he says, and it mostly has, but I'm not going to say that only Chris Wilder knows what's best for the club, and maybe he wanted more than we had, we just don't know. If he's annoyed at the state of Shirecliffe but it's covid related and the Prince wanted to spend it elsewhere, then they're both right probably. I don't think it'll be some big fundamental issue, just different ideas and two proud and stubborn men.

If the Prince sells everyone decent, pays off the debts and goes back to the McCabe model of "here's a pittance and you'll bloody well thank me for it" I'll be right there with the Prince out brigade, but up to now I've thought he's been a very decent owner, spent money (his money because he owns the club, clubs money if you find that hard to accept), spoke well, and done little bits here and there that make you think maybe he does give a shit, like painting the South Stand and the general tidy up of the Lane.

McCabe built one good corner when the cost to do so was low, but did nothing else really for the next 12 years until he bet the lot and lost. Just cleaning the concrete would have done, it was fucking grim, so if not the Prince, someone on the board gives a shit.

I'm feeling more deflated about the state of the fanbase than anything, and I think everyone should concentrate more now on what we do going forward rather than making their side known and making Wilder into a martyr.

The players have been shit this season, no doubts, but they're the ones that have done the business on the pitch and they'll need some serious backing if we're allowed back soon so that it trends towards a Norwich or Watford rather than a Sunderland or Huddersfield.

Fuck the rest of it, get behind the football.
He’s spent the money the club has earned through the managers ability to drive them to the championship and onto the premiership on one of the lowest wage and lowest wage structures in those division
For a premiership club our wage structure is embarrassing
I accept it’s what we can afford and maybe rather than using the 130 million on player purchases spending half on less paying more wages would bring about better results erc
Who knows

DCL was sold for peanuts?

Which university did you get your degree in hindsight?

One thing i’d say about Norwich and Us that doesn't put Wilder in a great light in my opinion.

Farke hardly had a budget last season at all, he never complained. They didn't spend anything in January he didn't complain, they were relegated no fall outs just back to basics.

This season they sold two regular starters Godfrey / Lewis and signed a number of decent proven champ players and a few loans too.

Basically Norwich run a much tighter ship then we have, they've not put any of their own money in. Farkes made them a lot of money and I've never heard him complain or threaten to resign.

I get that Wilder wants the best for the club, and I agree he shouldn't be told who he needs to sign/ doesn't. However he shouldn't have just walked out on us, we need more rebuilding than David Moyes man united with the team he's left 😂

Maybe they have talked to wilder or people that have spoken to wilder ???

Gary Marrow and Tony Moore also have a pop at the prince in the thread

I’m still not gonna have a pop at the prince or wilder till we hear something concrete but the prince needs to come out with a statement tomorrow to clear the air ... if he can !

We need something from the top, not sending Bettis out with a statement that said a lot yet said nothing

I think the norwich model people refer to is
  • don’t sell the best players
  • keep the manager
  • go again

But surely you follow it all or don't bother, rather than selecting bits that are a little more palatable?

It's like cooking a pie without the crust

Just for the sake of accuracy, Farke, nor anybody else, made Norwich City a lot of money. They made a profit of £2m last season. You read that right, two million pounds.

Norwich City's total wage bill last season was £89 million.

Nevertheless, they weren't daft enough to think they could easily establish themselves, and they already knew the pitfalls of overspending from their previous short sojourns which put them in a position where they pretty much had to get promoted in 2019 to prevent some sort of death spiral.

Nobody comes out of this resignation/sacking/mutual consent thing well.

Not to keep battering it over the head but player trading has been so bad I can't find a word in the thesaurus to describe it. It would be one thing if we'd overpaid for players, but several have been signed who should never even have been considered for the Premier League.

Last month I still thought it would be more than likely that we'd be up amongst the promotion runners next season with a little bit of spring cleaning. Now I'm more concerned that we'll end up, not like Huddersfield Town, but more like Bradford City.

I believe the club want to restructure the way recruitment is done. I don't think its classed as pulling the rug from under Wilder and telling him how to do his job.
Every Manager gets a budget at the start of the season its how you use the money,Every team need a goal scorer easier said than done Chris went with youth and got players for the future with hindsight this was a mistake he needed a hardened recognized goal scorer
Recruitment..... when Chris went for Brewster surly his so called recruitment team asked the question WHY are Liverpool allowing a player to leave who is there future a manager is only as good as his recruitment a manager lives and dies by results
No one will ever really know the real reasons and why the people in power made this decision but watching us against Leicester was concerning these are professional footballers some will have liked Wilder some won't have but what about the supporters and your personal pride so at least run around pass to a team mate try and have a shot at goal ( that's the aim to win a game) and work your balls off

Like you and most on here I don't know what brought about this current mess, but I believe having heard and read from a number of sources that at least two commitments made to CW by the Prince didn't materialise regarding improvements to the training facilities ad JTW loan signings. As has been said earlier, their relationship is reported to have been cordial rather than close and once things like that happen, trust , very important in any working relationship, goes out of the window. Perhaps Farke was never put in that position?

£800,000 I believe, peanuts
Forgot to mention Ramsdale for £1,000,000

Most of us on here thought we'd got the best of the deal when DCL was sold.

'Got Everton with their pants down' was the favoured response.

If you thought at the time £800,000 was peanuts then you're wasted on here.

I suggest you apply for the vacant manager's position
