We've not had anyone in the Duffy role since Duffy. Hamer is a perfect fit for it. It removes defensive responsibility and allows him to do what he wants. If he loses the ball then there's almost an entire team behind him to win it back.To get the best from him you have to basically be prepared to make him your Adel Taraabt.
Play him on midfield and he gives away possession too much. Play him wide and he doesn’t track back consistently enough.
Play him as a 10 off Bamford and tell him to make something happen.
If you want to play 4-4-2 then there really is no spot for him.
We're getting a lot of corners this season and a lot of them are from blocked shots from outside the box. This seems to happen when our midfield "just hit it" instead of actually trying to place a shot with pace. When they just hit it in into a crowd it's inevitably going to hit a defender and go off for a corner which McGuiness will head in to the keepers hands, whereas Hamer is more likely to take a second to find a bit of space and actually shoot properly.
Drop Campbell and play Hamer behind either Bamford or Cannon. Both of those actually looks to make runs and Hamer is the only one that can find a pass for them. 2 up front was working until it didn't.
