Are we selling him or not? We seem to be not playing him to keep him fit for someone else, whilst we are still paying him. How the fuck Chong starts before him is baffling. Matos should have played as well, as Arblaster is miles off it (understandably). Tonight is on Wilder for me, we are always shit when he decides he's going to 'outthink' the opposition.

To me he sums up how unprofessional the Club is. He’s unfit and overweight. I’d say who’s giving him the bollocking but he’s obviously not had one as it continues unabated. We give the impression of a Sunday League outfit. Players on the piss and eating crap. A management and coaching outfit that I can’t comprehend in the ultra fitness times of 2020’s professional football.

For all of Selles faults, he did actually call out our squads lack of professionalism in the hotels with their diets etc which is probably why the players threw the towel in after the Bristol city game.

Burrows and Peck were happy to see Wilder back in the job because it meant they could go back to having 3 bowls of Coco pops for breakfast and a couple of pot noodles for lunch.

I’ve called out Hamer a few times on socials and got shot down.Thought he was fortunate to get championship POS last season. He hasn’t got the desire to commit himself to becoming the player we know he could be that’s why you see the inconsistency in his performances.By all accounts he doesn’t have an interest in football outside of playing which although nothing wrong with that it gives you a window into his mindset. He’s sleepwalking through games at times sprinkled with the odd bit of brilliance but that’s not enough. He swapped shirts with Mcburnie on the pitch at Hull when we’d just lost our 6th game on the bounce smiling and chatting.Again nothing wrong with that but it shows a casual carefree attitude towards his performances which is what you see when he’s doing little flicks that don’t come off.Too much of a luxury player for me and not a player we can rely on to be fully committed on a consistent basis.

I’d definitely keep him. We have a distinct lack of quality. The money we get wouldn’t get fully reinvested and a player of equal quality would not be bought. But I do agree that the fitness coaches need to improve him.

Been saying this for years. We entered the PL in 2019 with a team who was fitter, more explosive and dynamic than most of the PL teams. Since COVID we've totally unravelled and like you say we're like a Sunday League team. Throw in buying small, weak, slow players and it's a recipe for where we are right now!

If we manage to get another midfielder in Hamer will go faster than 💩 through a goose, you watch.

It typifies the issue with football for me where there are players who are purely in it for the money.

Even at our level, they earn a very good wage but its just a job to some of them whereas we want passion and 100% commitment, 100% of the time but don't get it.

Thing is with Hamer that if he was committed, made more of an effort to get himself fit and combined that with the obvious skill and ability we know he has, he wouldn't be playing for us in front a half empty ground at Southampton on a Wednesday night.

Ironically though, one of his hopeful 'look at me' back-heel flick things set them up for an attack that looked every bit as promising as any of ours when he did it!

He's a luxury player. Woefully unfit. There's no commonly used formation you can play him in. Off a target man in a free role with instructions not to cross the halfway line is the only use I can see for him. On the wing he totally exposes his wing back/fullback. He can't play and run games from deeper in the middle due to his lack of fitness and mobility. He also tires and expends his little energy reserves running back when we want him hurting the opponent.

I did think he played some good forward passes last night and his corner that was cleared off the line was a peach.

In a nutshell mate.
For me, that's the difference between a true quality player, like Ndaiye for example, who could do something special but was prepared to put in the hard yards as well, rather than someone who can score a worldy from the halfway line, play a superb defence-splitting pass or smash in an unstoppable shot but between long periods of ineffective personal ambition, bordering on irresponsible carelessness.
Yes it looks great when it comes off, but how many points does it help put on the board for us?

I’ve got some fantastic stories from a family member that works at the hotel.

Selles was trying to control diet and start warmups first thing in the morning and most of the squad absolutely hated it. Once wilder came back it was back to ‘do what you want’ turn up at the ground at 1’

It's exactly this crap that holds us back. Complete lack of professionalism from elite athletes and old school managers.

Can you share any stories?

I remember reading one that came from someone at Man Utd during Ronaldo's second stint there. He saw Jaden Sancho eating a chocolate cake in the cafe and asked him what he was doing. "Dis is my ting bruv" was the answer. it was the wrong answer. If Ronaldo is questioning your life choices you probably want to listen to him.

Certainly explains why the squad has looked so unfit for years.

To get the best from him you have to basically be prepared to make him your Adel Taraabt.

Play him on midfield and he gives away possession too much. Play him wide and he doesn’t track back consistently enough.

Play him as a 10 off Bamford and tell him to make something happen.

If you want to play 4-4-2 then there really is no spot for him.

100% !
CWs insistence on running, pressing, fitness and dynamic play took us on that fabulous journey to the PL.

We've had two PL visits since and our fitness and conditioning have gone backwards, in a big way.

Why?

There's multiple reasons. Some are club led. You need the majority of your squad in situ before a ball is kicked for pre season. That hasn't been the case since at least the start of the Slav season. Every January we need a lot of players. Well run clubs don't heavily recruit in Jan. Their squad is ready to go for game 1.

Felt insane playing Arblaster, who clearly is 3 months away from full fitness, and keeping the best box-to-box midfielder in the league on the bench.

Agreed theres no spot for him in a 4-4-2 but there is one of the 3 in midfield in a 4-3-3. It lets us drop one of our 3 strikers that dont score goals too and play Bamford as a lone striker.

O'Hare---Bamford---Brooks
------Hamer----Peck--------
----------Reidewald---------

Still got the issue where Seriki is the only player in our entire squad with any pace though.

I think the bollocking is evidenced by him being benched.

Can’t share too many details without giving it away who it is at Hilton and don’t want to get them in trouble.

One video they sent me before the Bristol game the players had been in first thing to go through opposition analysis etc… in the video there’s a table set up with what looks like a fairly typical continent breakfast buffet. Fruit, cereals, some energy drinks, while the players are getting something to eat the coaches are passing them footballs and trying to get them to take shots at an inflatable hoop in the corner. Nothing to strenuous but gets them on their feet moving around with a ball before the activation warm ups on the pitch.

There’s a few players that look absolutely miserable, the ones getting into it were the younger players a the ones you could tell had spent time at elite academies where I guess this is pretty normal stuff.

That’s really only going to end up as 4-2-3-1 though isn’t it?

Hamer isn’t going to do equal work tracking back as Peck so you’ll just arrive at Peck playmaking alongside Riedewald anchoring and Hamer further forward with Brooks and O’Hare making up the 3 😉

If we played 5 at the back he could have potentially played the Duffy or McGoldrick roles.
