Great referee today ...

I thought he was wank. The back pass in particular and also the corner he gave for us towards the end when Hamer hit the side netting before their player touched it, baffled me.

At the end he booked Davies despite their players encroaching into the 10 yards zone. Y to, at that point realise we weren’t there to watch him and he couldn’t change the course of the game and he blew for full time.

Pretty sure a few mins before Hamers booking, Hamer put a tackle in worthy of a booking and got nothing.

For his booking, he took the man then the man hit the ball into Hamer and it bounced off him. The theatrics apart it was a free kick and a booking for me

Aah, didn't realise you were on the wind up. As you say, you saw it on TV so with the benefit of replays it was plain to see there was no contact. Doesn't fit your strange narrative this evening but c'est la vie.

I will say, I thought Four Minutes was on the low side anyway, and he could have added more additional time afterwards than he did (a substitution and a booking for time wasting within those four minutes, for example). I just don't think he wanted to be there any more.

Booking Davies for not taking a corner when a Sunderland player was 4 yards away was quite something.
Tbf, when a team is keeping it in the corner you often see referees allow encroachment before it's taken and blatant fouls to win it back.

It's just such a scummy practice that they seem to just let anything go to stop it. (Not that I'm against it, loved Vinny and Davies doing it at the end).

I thought the ref was good in the first half then lost it in the second. The missed backpass. Booking Hamer after a delayed response. He initially allowed play to continue until their player started rolling around, then he changed his mind, decided it was a foul after all and booked Hamer. The replay showed that the player made contact with Hamer and not vice versa. Then there was booking Davies for time wasting for not taking the penalty when he was correctly telling the assistant ref that a Sunderland player was too close. A bizarre performance.

It was a passback.

Sunderland's so called last man wasn't actually their last man.

Souza clearly  shoulders the ball.

Sunderland players encroaching on corner, our player gets booked?

As well as numerous other minor things the ref got really wrong.

Some big calls the ref got right, but overall one of the worst refs ever, its becoming a bit of a trope now with refs, who can outworse who.

I thought the referee was absolutely useless, worst I’ve seen for a long while. Ten bookings and about three of them deserved, Davies, absolutely ridiculous, Hamer, no foul then twenty seconds later it’s a foul and a booking. One rolled the ball back about a yard, to where the infringement had actually occurred, when returning the ball to Sunderland and he gets booked? It wasn’t delaying the restart?

We have to accept, that the majority of refs, look like they’ve never played the game, but he was another level, Poor Galvin, actually looked like he’d never been out alone after dark.

I didn't think he was too bad, a very busy night for any ref, but for me he got the big decisions right. The Sunderland red card is debatable, as you could argue there's a man who could possibly get over and cover, but in those positions it's so debatable, could very much have prevented a goal scoring opportunity, so I don't think it's unjust.
He correctly gave the pen, correctly sent off Souttar. Several times in the second half players tried to buy cheap free kicks and he didn't fall for it. With Hamer I suspect it was his reaction that got him booked.

The Tom Davies booking was silly, but we had been taking the piss with time wasting.
It was one of those really bitty games with a lot going on and a lot of pressure from both sides. I think the criticism is harsh.

At the ground and live I thought he was shite with some ridiculous calls :) (though had little choice with the reds).

Not seen any replays yet though.
At home watching on tv, he lost control of that at the end of the 1st half.

For the pen, if the other defender is 5-10 yards to the left, he cannot influence the play.

The foul was bang in the middle of the goal. The other defender was too far away and not on the route to goal. It was a red.

Hamer missed the ball and the man, their player goes down, play on then when he stays down, blow for a free kick and Hamer gets a yellow.
Having watched that incident back, I can see why Hamer was booked because it was a wild challenge - BUT why was the Sunderland player laid out , holding his ankle when he hadn't been touched - why did the Ref not book Hamer straightaway and didn't the Ref see the Sunderland player leap to his feet after the booking - yet another case where there should be retrospective punishment

The delay in booking Hamer was because he wouldn't stop mouthing off at the ref. He wasn't going to book him for the tackle, but Hamer kept complaining that it wasn't a foul.
It's a difficult one, you want your players to be competitive and passionate, but it's difficult to flick that switch to off when you feel you have been harshly penalised.
He must be getting close to a ban.

I thought it looked like Hamer looked straight at the ref thinking he was in trouble and that reaction almost led to the ref calling the foul after what seemed like a slight delay. I was a long way away from it though, so might be wrong.

I'm pretty sure Hamer's was for "politely" telling the Ref it was not a foul, not the actual foul it's self.

He got the two red card decisions and the penalty right.. not sure what else he did right at all, some of the decisions he gave against both sides were utterly bizarre, The back pass bottle job and booking Davies for the opposition encroachment were two of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen
Davies was clearly wasting time by pretending to take the corner to entice the opposition into encroaching. An old trick that often works.

It’s a funny one as Davies was right that they were encroaching but, but as Souza found out, you can’t tell the referee how to ref the game…. And if that had been in the 80th min Davies wouldn’t have been fussed… so it was a clear time wasting trick. Which I can’t disagree with. Worth the booking

Maybe so, but the ref didn’t think it was a foul himself until the Sunderland player started rolling about.
So let’s suppose Hamer says ‘For fucks sake, are you joking ref? ’ or similar. The referee is a grown man, he should be able to deal with such an incident in such circumstances, without having to resort to a Yellow card.
The problem is, a lot of the modern referees, apparently still live at home and have never kissed a girl. Fucking useless

Don’t think they really deserved bookings but he didn’t give them free kicks for their diving. They didn’t prosper with it.

The back pass didn’t seem to be one in all honesty. But not seen a replay

Just to confirm it was a back pass. The ball leaves his foot before Peck is close enough to him.

He literally couldn't take the corner, as they were so close.
