Still top of the league. 2 closely-fought away wins in 4 days, with 3 goals created and scored by 2 young starlets and our 3 most expensive players.

Usual graphical maps of progress below. The Rotherham game is now in its rearranged spot.

Graph 1 is the usual comparison to last year - 23 points compared to Slav's 12 points after 10 games'

Graph 2, comparing to last year's league position, really emphasizes our change - this was when Slavball really imploded.

Graph 3 is the usual comparison to my benchmark results to achieve Playoffs and Autos - we are now 3 points ahead of my Autos line (Remember that my benchmark lines for promotion are based on who we are facing in the actual games, not on a general statistical average - that is why they are not straight lines).

Graph 4 is a comparison with our last 2 (Wilder) promotion seasons. I posted an expanded view of this graph last night to emphasize the difference, and I have taken a bit of private stick from people thinking that I am implying that Hecky is better than Wilder. The point is that these are our 2 most recent promotion seasons, and so it's easy to relate to how we were feeling at the same time in those successful years. I have now renamed it Comparison to Wilder's Promotions, rather than to Wilder!
You can see that on 23 points after 10 games we are 6 points ahead of the 17 that we had in Wilder's 100 point League 1 promotion season in 16/17 (still on for 106 points this season then!) and 4 points ahead of the 19 in his 18/19 Championship promotion season.

Picture 5 is the current League Table with results - I just like looking at it. It's interesting that the teams that we have played in our away games are all generally below those for our home games in the table. I guess that suggests that we have some tougher away games to play but that our current home form (all wins) is even better than it seems.
I do have an alternative performance-based table which suggests that West Brom, Boro and Rotherham are artificially low in the table and Reading, Blackburn, Watford and Millwall are artificially high - so we will see how things change. Blades and Norwich are 1 and 2 however I look at it though!

Another night when I enjoyed a couple of very pleasant single malt ethanol-based fluids!

We have only played one top ten side away and lost that.
Will we get enough at home to avoid relegation ?!!

Sorry mate, only just got it. 'Blades Pressed On'
Nice :)

Really appreciate this ucando.

What I would also like to see in picture 5, however, is the comparative score from last season (with the three promoted clubs replaced by the three relegated from the Premier League, and similarly the promoted clubs from League One replacing those relegated from the Championship). Alongside this, it would be good to see a window showing how our accumulated points against this comparator compare with last season's. On this basis, I calculate that we've acquired 11 points more than last season against the teams we've played.

Cracking stuff

Great read

Thank you

Not away we didn’t
Ah, I thought you meant we'd only played one top 10 team at the time we played them.
I guess the positives to come out of our away games is that we were only the second team to beat Preston and to score more than one goal against them and they were 9th.
Hull were 11th with 3 home wins out of 3 at that point, with draws at Boro and Luton.
I think we'll be OK.

Forget this Ucando - I see Trafford is doing this exercise.

So do I !
I am really optimistic not just because we are top, but because we are now have exciting players to watch

I said after 6 games it feels like a promotion season, based on other promotion seasons.
Then we went and hammered Reading 4-0....
I know it's ridiculously early, but it just has that feel about it.
Let's hope injuries, sales of best players, and as you say loss of points agains the likes of Norwich away don't do anything to spoil that. UTB.

We’ll win at Norwich… they’re crap in defence and we’ll tear them a new one!!

Revisit this in April 😉

Can you add the Warnock promotion season to this graph?

We started off like a train that season, and as a result the rest of the season only needed to be ok. Would be an interesting comparison.

What I also find encouraging is that compared to the rest of the division, Blades GD is fantastic. Scoring a good few combined with conceding very little is definitely promotion form

Long, long, way to go though, so fingers crossed

Long way to go but we're looking great, it's good performances that give everyone the belief that we can do it. I should imagine that once the crowd truly start to believe, the atmosphere will be immense and it'll make it even more difficult for away teams at BDTBL

Love these graphs and analysis. Thank you keep it up. If only you had a guaranteed crystal ball.

my main concern is injuries. However there always seems to something which derails us. EPL season 2 it was loss of JOC and Covid. League One 2012 Ched got sent down. What could possibly go wrong this season?
