Been doing the stats (up to 1999- will explain why in a seperate thread). Between 1992-93 (Kelly's first season) and 1998-99 (Kelly's last season) Kelly made 215 League apps and Tracey 93 so that is 69.8%

I'm pretty happy with my complete guess in that case!

500k gets Jason Steele according to Alan Nixon.

Really think we should be moving for Ripley now though.

Just stick anyone in and play goalie wag.

Extra outfield player then.

Sunderland have bid for Steele. Thank god, he's shit.

If not Ripley I'd like to see what Jayson Leutwiler's availability is like. Done a few seasons in League One with Shrewsbury but he's always impressed me. Would jump at the chance to join us.

I'd have a look at Matt Ingram. When at Wycombe he was the best keeper in league 2 and played well over 100 games for them. QPR signed him and he's hardly played for them. He's pretty young and got loads of potential and could be available

Ingram could be a good shout.

Won't get in ahead of Smithies, would have a better chance here. Only 23 so could improve a lot.

Cba to read the whole thred, so don't Know If he's already been digested but I Think Markus betinelli would be a good shout, he's second choice af Fulham, and he's still relatively young. Only negatives are he might cost a bit, and I read that Chelsea were interested not long ago, but obviously we would be able to give him game time.

Keeper on loan is imminent.

Quote from Ripley's wiki page...

"Ripley made his only appearance for Oxford United, in which he conceded a goal from Ryan Hall's free kick, in a 2–0 loss against Southend United the next day.[9] After this, Manager Chris Wilder was unhappy with Ripley's performance and decided to terminate his loan spell at the club"
Fingers crossed he's not too stubborn to think about signing him again, cos he must have improved tenfold since then.

Injured - estimated out for 6-8 weeks
Hearts keen as 1st choice & (alleged?) to be a 'jambo' - none of which means out of course

Not many of the city fans I know rate him very highly.

Prone to at least two big errors a game.

On an interesting note....we use the same hairdresser....or I did. Cut backs mean I go to the Turkish barbers instead now.

Read some of the Shrewsbury fans opinions on him on their forum it would suggest you saw him on his best days

If we ar after a keeper I would like us to stick to the methods we have employed so far.

Good, experienced pros with games under their belts at the top of their game and the right age to improve.

So third choice from Boro wouldn't be my pick. A championship sides third choice keeper? Bit like Eastwood.

Let's either take a second choice premier league keeper, or someone who fits the criterion from the lower leagues.

Ripley was an excellent goalkeeper at Oldham. They raved about him.

He would give some serious competition for Moore. Would make sense to all parties.

Fair play, he must have gone downhill cos he did used to be a really good keeper when he first arrived.

EDIT: Yep, seems he got a bad injury and hasn't been the same since.

I respect Loots. I was at Grimsby that night he suffered that horrific injury. If it's made him a bit more hesitant, I'm not surprised.

I think you have pinpointed the career changing moment for Leutwiler.

Some tend to forget how good he was before then, but clearly he's never been the same keeper since.

Not really like Eastwood - he played all season for Oldham and did well by all accounts, very popular with their fans. Not proven at higher levels though but I gather there has been interest in the Championship. Also - an ex-premiership side with parachute money's 3rd choice keeper.

I get that....but did he get the loan because he was at a premier league side or because he was significantly better than the third choice keeper at a league one side?
I don't know....but after Moore arrived we had Moore...(undoubted first choice), Long, Ramsdale, Eastwood.
Could Ramsdale have done as good a job? Possibly.

My point is....that now we are a league higher teams below will be more inclined to want our players on loan. I see similar with this Ripley. Keepers can only be assessed on performances, and unless they get the chance to play nobody can decide if they are good enough.
By all accounts, Eastwood stepped up and took his chance to show he's pretty good. Are there lots of keepers out there with real ability just waiting for a manager to trust them? Like we did with Long? Ok it was needs must and he didn't really make the grade, but who's to say young Eastwood won't rise to the challenge and thrive.
