Awful news to wake up to. Been exiled for 20 years and he was part of that team who gave me a reconnection after the prior toxic years. He only seemed to get better with age. At 48 I shouldn't really have favourite players, but he was always mine. Class player, attitude, temperament and seemed like an overall class human being. Genuinely gutted by this. RIP legend.

It feels like I've lost a friend.
I only ever spoke with him once, just after we'd beat Wednesday 2-4 he commented on the noise being deafening on the pitch.

31 the same age as my son who also became a father this year.
It is truly heartbreaking and my thoughts are with his wife and baby and of course his poor parents who have lost a son

RIP George

Can only echo what's been said by others. To me he represented everything our fans take pride in from players. He was a classy footballer but he would run all day and never backed down from a challenge.

George was a class above. I remember he was supposed to come down to one of the Sheffield United football camps which i attended to meet some us but couldn’t because the first team training had ran over and the camp was about to finish. Anyway to cut a long story short, he had caught wind that I was a big fan of his and rushed down to the camp straight after training to meet me and chatted for around 30 minutes, even though he knew that everyone else at the camp had already left to go home. Was an incredible guy

so shocked at this absolutely gutted,
Favorite ever player to pull on the red and white, embodied everything it was to be a blade, thoughts are with his family …rip

Knocked me for six this 😭💔 can't believe it I just have no words absolutely devastated.

George epitomised what it meant to be a Blade he gave his all for our club and I lived the lad for his passion he was worth his weight in gold.

Always remembered at the lane R. I.P George 😭💔

Jeez , this is absolutely tragic news . Really shocking .

Condolences to all his family and friends.

Will be forever missed .
R.I.P beloved blade George .

Gutting. George absolutely embodied what it meant to be a blade on the pitch, and whilst I never met him personally I’ve only ever heard good things about him off the pitch too - I think it was him who looked after Sander when he arrived in England and during lockdown.

I don’t know how you even start to put a tribute together as a club for him. Unbelievably sad news
