A loyal Blade who never gave less than his maximum for 7 years - his love for the club radiated around the Lane from his wholehearted performances - I reckon he must have been one of the most universally loved of our players in recent times - we were all so pleased for him getting his international recognition and taking the opportunity to play in Athens - I'm so sad for him & his family - what a modest hero he was

Sitting in the stands watching United under Wider and Hecky, I reckon I've heard every single United player at some point being moaned at or criticized by the fans. Not George, though. The dictionary definition of commitment. For an angry goal celebration, see Spurs away. For miraculously avoiding a second yellow, see Wolves away. For passion after winning an injury time penalty, see Wolves at home.

What a player. What a bloke.

Devastated.

Heart goes out to his family and friends.

RIP Starman, loved you to bits.

My favourite thing about him as a player was that he played like a fan. He seemed to know how we felt and what we wanted to see. He was one of a few players I've seen at United who got every last drop out of the ability he was gifted with. Throughout his time here, we always looked a better team when he was playing. I remember him coming back after injury at Sunderland in the promotion season under Hecky. We were really stumbling at that point but he made a huge difference in that game and we suddenly started looking like United again. It's no surprise that once he got fit again that we cruised to promotion.

He genuinely was up there with Billy in terms of pure passion. He wasn't just a great player, he represented us on the pitch. Baldock summed up everything that was special about that incredible Wilder team.

George was a class above. I remember he was supposed to come down to one of the Sheffield United football camps which i attended to meet some us but couldn’t because the first team training had ran over and the camp was about to finish. Anyway to cut a long story short, he had caught wind that I was a big fan of his and rushed down to the camp straight after training to meet me and chatted for around 30 minutes, even though he knew that everyone else at the camp had already left to go home. Was an incredible guy
Says it all a top man and always thinking of fans

Well said. Sums him up perfectly. I really can’t put into words what I’m feeling at the moment so thanks Greenwich Blade.

Epitomises everything we want in a Blades player.
You can have all the skill in the world, but if you don't have the attitude, commitment, desire, focus, humility don't come to Bramhall Lane. George you had this in abundance.
Thanks for the memories George.
You will never be forgotten ❤️

I’m absolutely stunned and deeply saddened by this news .

In recent times , George has been one of my most admired and respected Blades players .

His performances in our first promotion year under Wilder , when he came up against the Premier League’s best wide left players and often bossed them out of the game were a joy to watch .

From the moment he walked into our club , he exemplified all the qualities that Blades fans down the ages have looked for in a player and as such deserves the right to be considered as one of our all time heroes .

Stunned. Life can have such highs and such lows. This is affecting so many. Prayers go to his family going through a very horrible time. 🙏 RIP to a true Blades legend.

The stoke home game will be a very emotional experience. I think that will be the 3rd home game in 4 we'll be recognising someone who's passed away. It's fucking mental and words can't even describe it.

I'm still reading news articles and socials paying respect and decided to taken today off work to have a few beers. God help me later when I start watching YouTube highlights 😢
