I don’t remember when I first learned the anthem. I thought I may be able to remember getting it wrong a few times, being corrected by the elders and then eventually getting it right, but I can’t remember it at all.

Do any of you have any tales of learning the greatest anthem of all? ❤️

Used to love hearing the arguments over the little bits like if it's fill/thrill, packet of woodbine/woodbines but through the years I just see the whole song as abit cringe.
Jesus fucking wept. No wonder the Lane is like a library most of the time if this is the prevalent attitude of the punters who attend. You'll lose all the circulation in your fingers, you know, sitting on your hands for 90+ minutes.

…true, but do we need the John Denver intro to get it going ????
Yes because otherwise you'd only actually sing from "a good pinch of snuff..." onwards like at away games. Or the second "na" like at Wembley

You having a laugh, nothing wrong with home support when they see the lads trying.
Wasn't meant as a joke. I've been going for over 40years and I am being serious. The atmosphere is nowhere near what is used to be... And that was with far fewer in attendance and with far less to get excited about. I'm not having a pop. Stating facts. We are not alone in this but I just wish the atmosphere could ratchet up a bit. 👍

Agreed. It is very poor. Definitely been a big drop off since Covid, IMO.

I remember the first proper game back after covid, Brum at home in our first game under Slav. I had been looking forward to it for months, thinking finally getting back to that raucous atmosphere I'd been pining for since the win against Norwich in 2020. there was a buzz getting into the ground, and a rousing rendition of GCB and then.... nothing. the performance from the players was flat, but the stands were like a morgue. it's like we'd all forgotten how to generate an atmosphere. other than a few times since, like the Blackburn semi final or when we've had a bad decision against us, I feel like we've never really recovered. considering one of those seasons was a promotion season, compare that to the 2018/19 run-in, absolute night and day.

Uhhhhmmm... tough one.
I'd go with YES, just so we don't have 4 going at once, and all starting and ending at different times. It's the only time the whole song gets sung at once in unison.

I've always thought it'd be a pretty obvious thing to just start singing it when the kick off is taken.

I agree - it's nice to hear the whole ground sing the whole song, not just the last couple of lines. I'd scrap the prompt at the start of the 2nd half though, as it's always a bit flat as people make their way back to their seats.

Yeah, we could just go by the refs whistle. But year by year we seem to be ballsing the "ohhhh" part up, so I don't trust us.
We used to make a mess of "oh lord Micheal Brown" we can't keep "when the Blades go marching in" slow, and "take my hand" goes around in circles with people jumping to the UNITED part at different times.

That atmosphere at the Lane is frankly embarrassing. Thankfully, support away from home is still strong.
This is partly why I prefer going to away games but I do notice that we're not the only home fans who keep pretty quiet unless stimulated by what's happening on the pitch. Many fans don't seem to think that lifting their team is part of supporting - it's not just a case of 'sing when you're winning'.
I suspect fans being too busy on their mobile phones is one factor - either texting or trying to film the action. Most of us watch Premier League games on TV and seeing some of the top players (from all over the world) creates unreasonable expectations and leads to criticism of our own players who can't perform at the same level. I think there's an element of 'we're paying good money' and 'it's up to the team to entertain us', rather than us being there to support the team through thick and thin.

Many things have changed in 40 years, some for the better and some not. Perhaps you are wishing to create good memories from the past, which are no longer relevant to many who now attend.

Away fans dont need it.

The John Denver original Annie's Song was our first dance song at our wedding. We didnt really have a "song" so I just picked it for the words, none of the guests realised the double nature of the song apart from one of my mates who is a Wednesday fan who wasnt too happy. It were great.
