Add me to the list of wouldn’t mind him as a cheap option to be mostly sub and maybe start a few games

Yeh he might not score many but I believe we will sometimes need a bit more physicality up front this season

How many points do you earn for giving away free kicks against the centre half?

Waste of time.

Madine will be no threat whatsoever in the Premier league and that's why a team struggling to stay up let him out on loan.

He caused Norwich all kinds of problems.
They couldn’t handle him and they are in the PL next season.

Cardiff base their game on physicality and lumping it in the box. Madine was back up just in case their main strikers became injured.

Where as for SU he provided something we didn’t have, another tactical option.
So although he’s not the best I can understand why he’s be more useful to SU than he would to Cardiff.
Although his usefulness will be limited to certain teams and certain tactics, so wouldn’t spend too much on him.

Don’t agree with majority of the posts on Madine. If brought in, he wouldn’t be the main striker expected by Wilder to score 15 goals in the prem.

He’s a plan B kind of player. An absolute mare to deal with due to his physicallity. What do we do next season when we can’t play our overloading attacking game. Or what happens if Duffy (or whoever we sign to compete with Duffy) has a stinker. You bring on someone who can change the style of the game.

Madine impressed me last year with his work rate, link up play with sharp... and amazingly his first touch before making a simple lay off to keep possession.

I’d happily have him back as a squad player. To push others and as a game changer option from the bench.

Also- Set pieces. Going to be huge next year and Knilly loves them. Madine’s a threat in the air and takes the focus off others making runs into the box. Couple that with VAR and the amount of pens he could have won last year if it was in the chanpionship for fouls on him in the box?

4-6m ... yeah, I’d take him as an option all day. So long as Wilder thinks the price works in his budget to get others he wants (which is hope include a McBurnie / Maupay).

Possibly but likelihood even with McBurnie upfront or Austin or whoever you bring in there are going to be lots of times when plan A hasn’t worked so you need plan B

And those players I just mentioned maybe better options but when that ball is getting launched upfront or we get those crosses into box with only one man in there the sudden difference in quality decreases IMO for what’s needed at that point

Don't forget, we only have a named 25 man squad.
The days of taking a punt on the hope-so basis he'll perform are over with now.
This is the PL, this is the PL like United have never experienced before.
1 to 25 this season need to be on top the game as much as possible.
Has he got the capabilities? Not just physically, but more importantly, mentally?

We scored a lot of important goals from set plays last season we will need more of the same again.
Madine is a big threat in and around the box , with Knills clever corners and free kicks
Madine would be a useful tool
and I would think get some starts too .Sam Vokes has had a good career in and around the premiership no reason Madine cant do similar ,Vokes is not a skillful player ,having said all that in
Chris Wilder we trust.

Yeh great point, not speaking for anyone else on here etc, I’m not saying he is genuine target etc but if we don’t get some of the others etc let’s not rule others out either

I think you have summed up better than I have mate

Yeah , he's a pig,, but ,, he's big , nasty m strong , will divide any defence, surely he's worth keeping as a stand in target man?
Better the devil you know,,,

Even as a Plan B target man, he's pretty average. He did the job we brought him in to do but he's just a better version of James Hanson. Cardiff paid way over the odds for him and presumably would want similar money to sell, so I don't even think he'd be a particularly cheap option either.

I'd agree Cardiff unlikely to want to lose money on him, Warnock bought him to help get Cardiff promoted, he might think the same again, he can be an asset in the Championship. They will be getting Parachute payments so don't have to give players away, he's contracted till 2021, we are rolling in money so Neil will want top dollar.

Getting him Hogan and Dowell for £10m is preferable over £15 m on a non PL player gamble, as they know our system and the team know them. They all appear to be intelligent players so they should do the job. In the absence of the mega budget needed to thrive - they should prove enough to survive.

Only players who would cost us anything like 15 m would be McBurnie or Adams, I'd take either of those over the 3 mentioned (and I'm not a fan of either of those really). Hogan and Madine definitely not Prem, Dowell maybe but I think he'd cost the 10m on his own.

Wilder played this type of player when teams put 10 men behind the ball and we couldn’t pass through them. Putting aside Madine not being good enough for a second I highly doubt this will be the case next season. We will have to counter, we would be better doing that on the deck with pace than lumping it up to come straight back.

Granted they maybe priced out but my point being it's the team that got us up, especially the form we showed since those 3 came in. So don't disrupt the team spirit unless we have to. At a cost of £10m for all 3 it'd be worth a punt.

(IMO) Hogan and Madine were only ever backup for Sharp/McGoldrick; they were played to get them up to match fitness in case either Sharp or McG were injured and also to see if there were useful players there. At no point did playing either of H/M improve over what we already had and consequently I would say they are not on the priority list, if we sign them it'll be because only one or less of the main strike targets have come in and again they'll be back up in case of injury. Given their previous transfer fees 9 & 6 million I don't even think we'd be able to pick either up for a representation of their worth, at which point I'm thinking save our money and have another look at Clarke/Evans.
(Again I stress IMO).

True but there will also be games where we might only get the odd chance via a set piece for example. If we are 1-0 down with just a few minutes to go and we get s Freekick or corner, who better than Madine to provide an aerial threat in the area.

He offers something different and in the best league in the world, we need to be able to adapt. If the price is right bringing Madine back (or somebody like him) would be a no brained.

True but if we get Mcburnie then he is decent in the air and also has better attributes than GM.

Agent Leon would also give us the plan B option, as well. The thought occurs that maybe his journeyman career has still got a PL exploit to tell and be just reward after his Wigan Leeds exploits!

Billy Sharp scores the most headers in the Champ last season, didn’t he?
If that's true I find it unbelievable
it was a high % of his tally (I thought it was 9 but that seems unlikely), a statto will put us right.
Just goes to show it's more about position and timing than height.
