So what happened to needing pace up front? Signings like Madine indicate plan B will be hoooooof......

Being serious let's not kid ourselves that Billy Whitehurst was a thoroughly decent human being.

That said I'm genuinely surprised at this one.

The pressure on Madine to be a success will be huge. Anything short of that will see plenty on his back.

I do love the fact that Wilder doesn't give a fuck what the fans, or should I clarify, certain noisy sections of the fanbase think.
He's in charge, either get on the bus or shut the fuck up because in his mind you aren't qualified to sway his opinion.

My kind of manager.

Totally agree....also let’s be honest....Wilder has earnt himself so much goodwill/ respect due to him consistently overachieving.
Wilder seems to have this skill of playing to a players strengths and making them look much better than their abilities at other clubs.

If the deal goes through you can bet that Wilder will make reference to the James Hanson addition when we were in league 1.
And explain that height and physicality and something we currently really lack up front.
He’ll say that Madine offers us something totally different and will be a really useful addition.
We do win loads of corners and never look like scoring. Madine will make us a threat.
He’ll also say he’s done a full background check on his character, CW has already admitted that he’s mates with the management team at Bolton, so will have spoke to them. He will have also spoken to his players (including Billy Sharp) and everyone is fine.

Away from all the "issues" he has and the past. Another concern should be his lack of game time. If he's being brought in to add to our promotion push, then we surely need someone who is match fit. And we his lack of full game time is he match fit?

BBC Sport reporting its loan with view to a perm as well.

If he comes in, is teetotal, acknowledges what a humongous twat he has been on the past, and Bill does an interview and says "yeah we had a bit of aggro, but that's just competing" then fine. Still don't think he'll do much for us to be honest though.

Providing you agree with him of course....
No, there are regularly things I don't agree with, but he's a leader and he's in charge, and what the fuck do I know? I'm an enthusiastic amateur at best, he's a professional football manager.
If you are in a position to influence him (which we're not) then you give your input and strongly support your own view, but then a decision is made and you do everything you can to make it work.
For the record I'm not in huge favor of this due to the off the field aspect, but I can see how he adds something to our current squad and I reckon it could be a cheap solution to potentially expensive problem. It's just as much chance to come off as fail, and depending on the specifics of the deal it could easily be a shot for nothing with limited risk and huge potential gain/win.

I also don't think this is our big signing which will blow our budget. I have nothing to support that apart from gut feel which is worth fuck all, but if it's announced that it is, and it's spent up all the available budget, I would be even more disappointed. However I would return you to my original point; it's the managers call and he stands and falls by his decisions.

Never rated him not the most prolific scorer and has all the additional unwanted baggage. However he played really well when we played Bolton last year, put himself about and was a right handful! If he can do that Great ......... but I remain unconvinced! Why do they call him the Washing Machine?

Because it rhymes with madine, if he was called Gary bishmosher it would be different.

You can say that again!

To put all this in perspective it's obvious what Wilder has done - got himself an insurance policy if Billy gets crocked or Goldy goes off the boil. Warnock did the same last year. Nadines also got himself a new career earning £10k pw without kicking a football. Everyones a winner.

He's made 5 sub appearances for Cardiff this season so it's not as if he's not played at all. He's the type of striker we need and I believe he'll do a good job for us. If his name wasn't Gary Madine most people would be saying it's a decent signing.

We all know that pace is only beneficial on a football pitch if playing in an extremely specific way....

Seems like Defoe has gone to Rangers - perhaps we aren't as attractive as we like to think or others teams will allow us to have (Hogan as an example)

#Madinegate

That was all about a 50K/week drop in wages against a 80K/week drop.

5 appearances since August isn't many. My post was trying to do exactly what you described remove the baggage and just look at footballing facts.

He's not played since 3rd November. And even then he came on for only 5 mins. And before that 11 mins 30th September.

Here's the link if anyone wants a gander at pitch time.

He will not be match fit.

Our style and pattern of play is by now well known and documented.

It does not require a target man type. Even as a plan B. Madine is a decent target man. No more. Had a decent spell (20 games ?) at hoof it and hope wanderers which tempted ol big nose to splash the cash. He has been a terrible signing for Cardiff.

Parallels with Hanson abound. I had truly hoped we had evolved from this nonsense.

Finding it really difficult to see any sort of positives on this one. Sorry.

Can anyone tell us what madine has done to be hated so much ? Apart from playing for the pigs (like Leon)

Many fans on here have worshipped super Ched for doin what he did ?

If we sign him support him just as much as any other player

There is/was another ex pig forrerd who went to Cardiff then came to the Lane, scoring a grand total of f... all goals.

History repeating itself ?

Wilder has never said we needed pace up front ,that came from people on here. We have Washington but Sharp and McGoldrick are our biggest threats and they don't rely on pace ,it not conducive to the way we play.

To put a positive spin on things this will really hurt the pigs! One of 'their own' who was something of a cult hero for them publicly stating his desire to play for us.

I can imagine the meltdown hahahaha
