Four bids

The likelihood is that all 4 will be forward players rather than different positions over the pitch - unless the O'Connell transfer is a goer, which hopefully it isn't. When Wilder says we've got bids in for 4 players that will be because he knows that we can't put all our eggs in one basket with one or two bids. Its the last week of course and hopefully we'll get that quality forward and/or attacking mid. I'm hoping Marcus Maddison is one of the bids!

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Cameron Jerome as one of the bids also. He might not be a sexy signing and is 31 but he will give decent competition to Leon. Would be OK with Jerome signing but less keen on Nugent.

I’m not sure how many times Wilder has to say that O’Connell isn’t going anywhere before some on here start to believe it but the half a dozen or so times he’s already said it obviously hasn’t done the job.

My guess is would be the bids are for 2 attacking mid and 2 strikers.

I would guess at a nugent / Jerome type (cheapish / surplus to requirements ) on a perminant and maybe a Gallagher / Hogan punt to see if the situation has changed in the last few weeks for the strikers. That city striker has been bandied about but I think he’d be going elsewhere.

It may be wishful thinking but a freeman / dowell loan for the attacking midfielder would be ideal.

That said it will probably be someone we be never suspected.

Well it may have been misused but a couple quite specifically means ‘two’.
By definition that is true, but the term is loosely used in every day society to refer to a small number (less than a few) as opposed to a specific number.

I think that experience over the years leads me never to believe that one of our best players isn't going anywhere, irrespective of what our manager says, as proven by selling Brooks only days before saying we would only sell at a stupid price. That's not having a go at Wilder either, who is the best manager we've had for many a year.

I've lived through us selling our best players and you ask much older Blades than me and we've always done it. Selling Fjortoft and Deane on the same day was the worst pill to swallow so forgive me for thinking things are somehow different now, having already lost Brooks this summer.

Don't get me wrong, every player has his price but at this late stage in the window I worry that Brighton will come back again.

I reckon Wilder will want another taller player with presence like we had with Donaldson, which is why Jerome fits the bill. He didn't even make the bench for Derby on Friday and surely they need to sell someone. They have 5 or 6 forwards at present, of which Chris Martin and Nick Blackman don't ever feature.

As you say a decent attacking mid would really be welcome as well.

For me, selling Walker and Naughton was a worse pill to swallow but nothing like that has happened since and I don't see, given the evidence since Wilder joined, why people still bang on about it. Clearly things have changed. When Man Utd sold Denis Law to Man City and he relegated them it must have been a bitter pill to swallow, but you don't hear Manure fans whingeing on about "we always sell our best players".
Unless you are still upset over the departures of, er, Adams and Calvert-Lewin, we have in fact done remarkably well to keep our squad together in the last couple of years, given that everyone does indeed have his price (Pogba, Neymar, Ronaldo) – the players and agents hold all the cards and every club is a "selling club".
O'Connell, by the way, is not going anywhere.

I would say that we've done as I would expect re keeping the squad together. We got promoted in Wilder's first season and the better players were signed by Wilder so were unlikely to leave having just got promoted or the players Wilder inherited were roughly at the right club for their abilities - Basham and Sharp. Wilder turned round the careers of Coutts and Freeman who nobody bought when they were first put up for sale. I'm not anti McCabe by the way - far from it. But saying O'Connell is definitely going to stay just because Wilder says he is when actually he said we haven't had a further bid and the first bid wasn't near our valuation doesn't make me think well there you have it, O'Connels definitely not going!

Under McCabe we've sold players on transfer deadline before or near as dammit - Quinn, Tonge and Slew spring to mind and at this late stage I doubt we'll be able to replace O'Connell, esecially with like for like quality. OK, Slew turned out to be crap in the end but I don't see how I or other fans are banging on about it; I think each fan has a right to express his views and we have regularly sold our best players for less money than they could have being sold for under our current Chairman. As you say we've definitely improved of late but fans remember the past hurts and I think that's understandable. In my case, as I said, the timing worries me, and I'm not convinced Brighton won't be back.

Denis Law didn’t relegate Man Utd, it’s a football myth.

So CW has to start shouting from the rooftops who he's trying to sign because the fans demand to know, it doesn't matter that he is alerting other clubs so they can start chasing the same player. By the way Forte was the player of the season at Notts County and was on the scoresheet again on Saturday for his new club Exeter.:tumbleweed:

Definitely not, but how many offers are kept private now regardless of what managers want? Agents start to leak the bid to the press in order to get the best deal for their client. Regarding Forte maybe he's one of four players that we've bid on with his recent prolific form.

Corrected it for ya Mb

So the bids
Barnsley have turned another bid down for Bradshaw , wonder if it was from us ?
Millwall are rumoured to be after him...I wonder whether we night be after Gregory and they are looking at him as a replacement

God i seriously hope not, still haven't got over him ambling about in the play off game at the lane. I would have put more effort in than he did and I was about 5 stone overweight.

I don't recall Wilder using the words 'stupid price' but either way that is a completely thing. It could be that what we got for Brooks was 'stupid' in the eyes of Chris Wilder.

He said stupid money I think and clearly we have a price for O'Connell which has no where being met yet. Whether O'Connell wants to stay must be a factor if another higher bid comes in. In the case of Brooks, Wilder stated Brooks wanting to leave made it harder to keep him.

4 bids, are we sure they are in and not out? :D
O’Connell perm to Brighton
Fleck perm to Burnley
Norrington-Davies and Hallam on loan to Chesterfield

Nah not four bids...

That's our intended strike force, everyone over 30, four OLD bids.

Sharp, Clark, McGoldrick and one other old 'un.

Why do we leave it so late every year?

It's Sinclair sat in the train station and the behind-the-scenes documentary all over again...

In the star today:

‘I don't think we'll see anything happening, in or out, before the end of the permanent window now," he said. "Then we've still got a few more weeks (to negotiate loans).’

Not how it sounded on the interview saying we’ve got 2 permanent bids in...
Would be very disappointing if we don’t have any backup options to turn to, improving the top of the pitch was the most important thing all window

So that rules out the likes of Freeman you would think. We definitely need a re-think in our transfer policy. We can't go for these top end Championship players because we get blown out of the water wages wise. It's going to have to be foreign or back to the lower leagues I think until the board room shit gets sorted.

Honestly what the fucks the point in closing transfer window early if you're allowed 'loan to buy' agreements

What's the fuckin difference
