I've read a few posts over the last two weeks and wanted to stress we are all Blades. Some may have more pedigree than others but some posts have become a bit 'Im more of a blade than you'.. I don't like it.
Me, I played centre half to Chris Wilders centre midfield for two years as a kid, watched training sessions at half term, have been to three play off finals, went to see the Blades play in Rotterdam, was at Boxing Day, was on the kop in front of the Givens penalty, when I had no money I used to get onto the Kop when the exit gates were opened at 415, I've seen us in corporate boxes, have seen United at least 8 grounds that have been demolished, stood at Bradford before it got burnt down and obviously had a few normal experiences as well and I could go on...
But i moved South 23 years ago and live 240 miles from BTBL. I still go, more for away fun over the last few years but I don't think I'm any less a Blade than I was before. This season, for the first in a while I actually go to watch ( though Boxing Day was crap) Just the circs are different. My points are well low, as friends sort me out now when I want to go. But I don't think I've reduced my Bladeness in any way.
So, can I appeal that for New Year that we don't get into some naff Blades points competition over whose Bladeness is bigger than another. Its nonsense, if there is one thing that living in the South has taught me it is that any Blade is a Blade, regardless of Bladeness, let's have a new year resolution to not be daft and support one another whether its game one or game 2001.
See you at Southend. Happy New Year to ALL BLADES.
