Reedy_22 , just seen on SSN that Udinese are interested in signing Liam Kelly on loan!

Very promising...

"The Sun reports that West Ham initially offered £4 million for Fleck but Sheffield United turned the bid down as they are determined to keep one of their most important players at Bramall Lane.

But West Ham have not given up just yet. And, interestingly, the report adds that Chris Wilder’s Blades could be willing to let Fleck grab his chance in the Premier League if they can find a replacement before this week’s transfer deadline."

Its a huge risk letting Fleck go even for someone who on paper has had a good and/or better career than Fleck, such as Andy King. Fleck is an integral part of our midfield and its been the same midfield two of Norwood and Fleck for almost every game this season. I guess it ultimately depends on whether Fleck wants this move. If he does then Wilder's always said he won't stop a player from leaving, as, as long as the deal is good for us. If I was Fleck, there's no way I'd want to leave United to be a squad player at West Ham, when we're on the verge of something special and he's very much established and popular.

This is what we’ve come to? Bonkers.

Just for the avoidance of doubt. Our manager, when he signed Dowell, clearly said he could play more than one position, including but not limited to, the so-called Duffy role.

If he’s reading this, you’re doing his head in. Midfielder. The clue is in the appellation. Anything else is Junior Computer Manager bollocks. Ask Tufty, not me.
Why do you call him Tufty? He's not gonna shag you mate.

Few reports flying about in the twittersphere of a second bid of £5m.....

£1m increments, from West Ham. A club who think nothing of spending £10m on Jordan Hugill. That really is taking the piss, if so.

I find it amazing that so may people have ignored Wilder's favourite word in this thread. It really should go without saying, but the word is 'balance'.Wilder doesn't play players on the wrong side side. Our right centre back is right footed, our left centre back is left footed (likewise with the wing backs). Their replacements are right and left footed respectively. He doesn't play players who can't run in these positions either; that is part of the balance: they have to have the ability to carry the ball and have recovery pace when caught upfield. The centre off the back three is a player who can read the game excellently, and head the ball and dominate in physical contests. It was obvious that Stearman's reading of the game was inadequate as I told you last season; so he's now in reserve(he's an excellen back four centre back). The midfield contains a player who can take the ball of the centre backs allowing the right sided and left sided centre backs up the pitch. This player is right footed and will the majority of his work on the right of midfield. His midfield partner's job is to drive with the ball and link with the attacking midfield player and wing backs creating overloads. This player is left footed. The attacking midfielders job is to create overloads, intelligently and link with the strikers.Out of possession the attacking midfielders and striker press the opposition. When the attacking midfielder presses it is the signal for the whole team of outfield players to press in synchronicity.I would argue that the attacking midfielders job out of possession, is more important than his role in possession. If we don't press correctly and we get outnumbered in our half.See Swansea in the first 25 minute of the second half for a perfect example.
How have the above tactics developed this season?
Wilder has brought in David Mcgoldrick who plays as a deep lying striker; a link man. Mcgoldrick drifts in to deep central midfield and wide positions when in possession, but presses high when out of possession. The result is that when out of possession his role is the same as last season's strikers, but when in possession he helps create overloads in wide areas, ala the attacking midfield player. The quid pro quo is it helps us control possession better, but, unfortunately, it sometimes results in a lack of players in the penalty area. You were more likely to see Leon Clarke in the box than Davd Mcgoldrick.
Something else I've noticed is Mcgoldrick and United's penchant to attack down the left side. This means the necessity of Fleck driving with the ball and creating overloads in our team is reduced. The left hand side of the pitch is congested already, and Fleck is the spare part in an attacking sense. It can be argued that Fleck's role in Wilder's new set up has been reduced, although there are other arguments;).

Sorry mate missed a couple of words out.

The club was financially crippled at the time we signed him and couldn't offer him a proper contract with a competitive wage. By the time he left, unfortunately we hadn't upgraded his contract and removed the release clause.

No worries mate. I remember it now. I think ! When he signed as you say we were in a financial mess and we offered him a one year deal, as I recall. The following summer when we missed out on promotion and presumably continuing financial mess we offered him another deal, which he took an age to sign and there were rumours of a deal with Wednesday but he failed a medical. Not so sure I believe that, and its academic now.

The following summer, having failed again for promotion McDonald left us for Wolves, under the same deal he had signed the previous summer and I recall that it had a minimum fee release clause of about £350,000 which was a joke. We offered him another deal once Wolves came in but it was too late as he wanted the Wolves deal - can't blame him there, I think they offered a much higher wage then we could offer and likely promotion. It was the minimum fee release clause that annoyed me, when you consider he was without a club and near the start of the season when we signed him. Donny turned him down in a trial just before we gave him one, but Donny were in the Championship at the time.

I'd take him back though if Fleck left, and I hope he doesn't, but McDonald played last season alongside Norwood for Fulham so that could prove a decent replacement for Fleck.

Misplaced and badly weighted passes. Lead feet. Lethargic. Left standing by quicker minds and feet running in behind him. One goal and three assists. Your boggled mind is twelve months behind reality, I fear.
So is West Ham’s. I decline to form views on what they think, preferring the evidence of my own trusty, non-boggled, non-starry, non-Bladey eyes.

Sounds like a criticism of Wilder to me for continuing to pick him.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we have made enquiries about John Swift ?

What is it upon which everyone is in agreement?

Why hark back to fucking Bassett at every opportunity, no matter how tenuous? Just fucking why?

Everyone agrees that a team can play good football with a big man up top and that Madine has a lot more to his CV than a simple target man
That's what.

Thanks for using my illustrative profanities.
Imitation is as you well know the sincerest form of flattery.
I'm flattered.

According to the Sun, West Ham have come back with an improved bid of £5m.
The answer will be the same I'm sure.

Fulham have made Stefan Johansen available. He's left footed and played quite a bit with Norwood last season, winning promotion, scoring eight goals and assisting nine. Leeds and Aston Villa are interested.

If Johansen is available he probably goes to the top of the list in terms of left footed replacements. We'd be the best move for him as well.

Different position but just seen that Ivan Cavaleiro is available from Wolves as well. Now that would be a game changer. Forget Hogan and get him if possible.

Well it seems you and I agree but I’m pretty sure there’s no unanimity on that.

As for following your lead, I’m always willing to learn. That places me in a tiny minority amongst fellow Blades, most of whom watch our games with their minds boggled and voices strangled.

At that price yes I think so. £6m, not so sure though, whether we agree or not.
