Fleck

Norwood doesn’t run with the ball or move enough to play there for, he would inevitably drop deep to get on the ball leaving the top two isolated.

Coutts has looked way off it, I wouldn’t want rely on him this season, big pre season for him in the summer or that may be it for him here

My post may have been slightly tongue in cheek....

Burton and Olivier wouldn't have ever been cast on their own merits alone.

I’m afraid anybody who ever directed a theatrical performance is currently shouting ‘oh yes they would’ at the top of their voice.

Are you suggesting only a Fleck clone can replace Fleck? Maybe someone can do it differently and better?

My analogy was entirely in point. One of my finest. Richard and Larry would have loved it, but in very different ways.

No, I'm pointing out the obvious, that if you don't replace Fleck with a Fleck clone, then you inevitably change the dynamic of the team in some way, and if the rest of the team doesn't react well to the dynamic, you have a problem. As has been pointed out to you, your choice of replacement is, putting it kindly, unused to playing the Fleck role, and to shoehorn him into the position would be at best optimistic, at worst blindly stupid.

Correct. Bassett did it with Deane very succesfully.

If only those days could return, eh? It’s what us S2 intellectuals long for. Upanatem and Nowt-Fancy, the Basset-Beck way. What fools are the rest of the football world, rejecting such sublimity?

Wally Downes. Wally Fucking Downes.

Wally Downes. Wally Fucking Downes.

Irrespective of the style of the time, can you imagine what CW would do with front two of Sharp and Deane?

As has been pointed out to you, Fleck is a liability at the moment, as observed by those without stars in their eyes. The Fleck role, as currently performed by...Fleck, is not pleasing to discerning, well-informed observers. Gerroffthestage.

Why?
Just fucking Why?

Everyone's in agreement on this one issue but you have to play the same 8 track beta fucking max yet again.

I know that I speak for all of us in highlighting how fortunate we are to have our own version of the Delphic Oracle to help us with our understanding of all things football the rest of us being unable to accurately discern what we should be seeing despite some of us having watched football for fifty years or so. A hearty thank you to our good friend Pinchy.
**Other points of view are valid too** :)

What is it upon which everyone is in agreement?

Why hark back to fucking Bassett at every opportunity, no matter how tenuous? Just fucking why?

I am reminded of January 2004, when United sold Michael Brown to Spurs for a song about 5 minutes after the transfer window opened, and replaced him with Monty.

We were in the playoff places and in touch with automatic when this happened. We finished 8th.

Don't get rid of a first teamer without having a reasonable replacement. Wilder knows this, of course. Hopefully the board won't screw him over.

Whisper it, but I don't actually think we ever got the best out of Deano. For a big, gangly lad he was surprisingly skilful with the ball at his feet, he would blend well with this team.

Oh I agree entirely. I have never had a bad word to say about Brian Deane. Quite the contrary. A proper footballer.

Only fifty? Wet behind the ears.

Very promising...

"The Sun reports that West Ham initially offered £4 million for Fleck but Sheffield United turned the bid down as they are determined to keep one of their most important players at Bramall Lane.

But West Ham have not given up just yet. And, interestingly, the report adds that Chris Wilder’s Blades could be willing to let Fleck grab his chance in the Premier League if they can find a replacement before this week’s transfer deadline."

Dowell always played attacking midfield for Forest. Could he be moulded into Fleck's position? I doubt it, based on his work rate and lack of aggression, but he might be a better bet than many who we could sign.

Not entirely sure what that's based on but it's a very interesting list. Callum Robinson stands out to me, still being on there despite being injured for the last 3 months.

It's all stats based. I think they explained the criteria earlier in the season when they started doing it. When i've got a bit more time later i'll see if i can dig it out.
