Flares

Why on earth would you cheer a firework going off? It's like celebrating wildly when your food blender works.
Hey, it's not my video. I wasn't even there. Looks like quite a few people on there would also cheer kitchen appliances though.

One suspects they'd struggle to switch them on.

PS I've put Sheffield United vs Brentford on Youtube and still have no idea what you're referring to.

Completely besides the point, why would there even be a child in the middle of that? And would the Kop on a Tuesday night really look like that? it would be 12 guys with 1 flare in the middle, at the back of the Kop.

I'm not saying Flares are not dangerous, but I think the corner stand near the Kop should be a all standing area where pyro is allowed, if you think it's dangerous, don't sit there.

English football's atmosphere seriously lacks behind most European countries, flags, banners, drums and pyro should be allowed in certain areas of stadiums in my opinion.
I have no problem with flares used in a safe manner, the point I was making is they do get thrown like in the case at barnsley that had kids sat near to where it landed, I am sure the fans who throw them are not meaning to hit anyone, but it does happen.

What is? What upsets you so much about that?

I remember someone once describing the Mexican Wave as 'A bored audience's cry for help'. I look at people cheering a smoke bomb going off like Dane Whitehouse has just scored against the Pigs in front of the Kop and think "How fucking bored must you be?"

If you want to look a complete twat at a football match why not just take one of those small very bright LED torches you can wave it about to your hearts content safe in the knowledge you will not hurt anyone. Only an idiot would argue that smoke bombs and flares are safe in a crowd they are designed to be used at sea or in open spaces ffs is it so hard to understand ? Not only does smoke from these thing cause problems for Asthmatics it is not good for anyone who suffers from COPD or anyone with a heart condition who need all the oxygen they can get it is not just breathing difficulties lack of oxygen can bring on a heart attack. I'm dismayed that we have so many utter morons as part of our support sod banning them for 5 years ban them for life before they cost a innocent fan their life with their stupidity.

No, it was started by a dropped cigarette end or match.
It was also a wooden stand with tons of rubbish underneath it. A dropped cigarette/match/flare is never in a million years going to set the Kop on fire.

They look ace and are great for the atmosphere for me, particularly in a big game, but when you read that letter it makes you ask whether it's really worth the risk.

Seriously though, what form of bell end would throw one over a crowd of people, never mind his own club's fans? Take the less controversial flag for example: beyond obstructing someone's view and even having their eye out (both 97 playoff final for me) they seem ok, unless you throw the actual flagpole into a crowd of people. At which point you want banning from decision making in general never mind being in a football stadium.

How do they manage this in Europe? Do they not report the deaths and injuries or do they just do a quick iq test before they let you in with one?

Forget smoke bombs boys, come and have a chug on my XXXL magnum pipe loaded with an ounce of Warhorse. That will blow your head off and create a decent amount of smoke, but you can't throw it anywhere because it is not disposable.

Flares and smoke bombs are just dangerous and anyone who brings them to the football is asking to be banned. It is not worth it.

Pipes however, should be allowed.

What happened to the other Tinsley tower?

So think about it - is your matchday experience really enhanced by such actions?

I feel like my match day experience would certainly be enhanced by seeing someone kick the seven shades of shinola out of the twats that launch them.

There seems to be mixed feelings regarding the use of flares and smoke bombs, some say they are dangerous some say they add to the atmosphere when a goal is scored, in the days of tony currie how did we celebrate a goal was it not just with applause and cheering, we seem to be following Europe in their ways, how many matches have been abandoned because of flares, English clubs are no way near as bad as foreign clubs, let's not end up that way.

My point is that fire is dangerous, not that the Kop is likely to burn down (although in some ways it might be good if it did, but empty, on a Monday afternoon). Someone dicking around with a flare may easily set someone's clothes on fire.
