First game - 1991 Home v Southampton in old Div 1, lost 0-2 (Shearer and Le Tissier the scorers)

First away - 1998 v Coventry in FA Cup quarters, drew 1-1 (Marcelo the scorer for United)

Worst - 2013 Home v Crawley in League One, drew 1-1 (Marlon King the scorer for United). Awful, seen worse results, never seen such a poor United side. So bad.

Best - so difficult this. Off the top of my head the 4-0 win at Elland Road in 2005 is a standout. There have been others I could put in the same bracket. That one was a special one though.

First - 1971 v Liverpool H 1-1 - Currie screamer

First away - 1977 v Mansfield A 1-1 - packed can’t remember who scored - maybe Edwards with a deflection

Worst - 1979 - Boxing Day A - lost I think …. Bad dream!!!

Best -1982 - Darlington A 2-0 - fantastic day out - beats Leicester for my age & the occasion - official att was 11,000 but more like 15,000 - who had to be there to know how good it was. So beats Leicester A for me.

Ohh nice old post resurrection!

First home - home vs Charlton sometime early 80's? Won 3-2

First away - took me a while but 3-1 Bobby Davison against pigs.

Worst - probably a dull 1-0 home loss to Norwich sometime early 2000's as travelled up from London with my new girlfriend. She wasnt impressed!

Best - maybe fa cup quarter win vs Blackburn or potentially 1-0 away win vs Palace when Jags was in goal. Atmosphere was electric.

Chester City, 6-1
First away game was v Oldham in the old first division, maybe in 90/91? Think my dad took me a couple of times around then as we were always both struggling in the top league. Definitely recall winning one of them (I think that first one) and then maybe getting a draw. They may have had an artificial pitch? Randomly, the thing I remember most clearly is there were flimsy metal railings in the stand that when you bashed them sounded like thunder. Obviously our fans did that all game. Was a strange experience as a nine year old to observe the behaviour of these ‘adult’ men!

Best game (apart from derby wins) has to be the Forest playoff semi final. With honourable mentions for Coventry cup replay, Leeds league cup win. Also enjoyed first game of the Spackman season v Sunderland (first time I ever remember being optimistic about a season) and the Frank Lampard Derby win a few years ago - it was the turning point that year when we first beat a big rival at the top, plus a great atmosphere on Boxing Day.

Worst game I can remember was getting done 4-1 away at Watford in a December in the late 90s, stood in a crappy stand and about minus 20, getting frostbite. Utterly miserable. I’m sure there are hundreds more bad ones that I have erased from memory!

First - 3-1 win against Chelsea 1947 ( whose full back that day was a certain John Harris )

First away - can’t remember but would almost certainly have been a local Derby at the Sty in the early ‘ 50s having been taken there by my Grandad who , apart from being a Wendy was the nicest person I ever knew .

Worst - the Boxing Day thing closely followed by the 2-1 loss to Hull in our promotion year 1971 when they got the better of us by sheer thuggery aided and abetted by a clown of a referee.

Best - 3-1 away win against Newcastle in the FA Cup 1961 . I doubt that any of the 18,000 Blades fans who were there that day can or could remember a more uplifting experience from start to finish , including the train journey home .

Absolutely mind blowing .

Nb - Oxford not Watford!

First - Aston Villa at home, 16th April 1994. Lost 2-1, was only 3 so don't remember it.

First away - Tranmere away, 13th January 1996. Drew 1-1, we were on that huge stand behind Tranmere's goal and as a little lad I remember thinking it must be the biggest stand anywhere in the world. Being young was a much simpler life!

Worst - Seeing us lose 4-0 at Stevenage was hard but by that point I'd started going more for the day out with my Dad than seeing us win. For one I'd hoped we would win, probably Wolves at Cardiff.

Best - Northampton in 2017. I was at Cardiff in 2006 but we didn't get promoted until Leeds played on the following day (think it was bank holiday?), so Northampton was the first time I'd seen us get promoted live. Obviously different times and different experiences but my version of Leicester and Darlington.

First - Blades 3 - West Ham 2 10th April 1976, quite an intro!

First Away - Bury 1 - Blades 1 27th April 1982, last minute equaliser!

Worst - Burnley play-off final. Only match I’ve left early, couldn’t wait to get on the tube and away.

First - Leeds Boxing Day 1989.
Away - Leicester 1990.
Worst - Wolves play off Final 2003.
Best - Liecester 1990.

After the first away the bar was set a little high for great away days, probably the excitement and newness of following u
United added something a bit more special to the occasion to me..

Burnley, we was the same,

I think the worst away should be Wembley vs the pigs, but is that an away game in the real sense.

my worst has been updated to this last prem season when we were winning 1-0 at Spurs over 6 minutes into injury time but the ref played 16 in total extra minutes to allow spurs time to beat our tiring young replacements , had it been the now more sensible added time would probably been 6 or 7 minutes at most

we left with nothing except a feeling of great injustice
and I had flown back specially and both flights were late

also put saturdays 1-0 win v watford as my new best , as after the humiliating debacle of last season the main feeling after the game was , my weve done so well to be heading the right way again. footballs always about the now , and now looks a lot brighter

First game = Sheff Utd 4-2 Chelsea: 8 May 1993
First away game = Tranmere 1-0 Sheff Utd: 1 January 2001
Worst = Sheff Utd 0-2 Scunthorpe: 8 May 2016 (Adkins final game. The hatred towards that squad and the lap of shame)
Favourite = either the 2-1 at Hillsborough in 2006 (Tonge & Akinbiyi) or the 4-2 in 2017....

...my actual favourite is Forest in Play Offs but OP rules prevent.

Winning against Leeds in the FA cup, with that Jagielka thunderbolt.
Just need to point out that these are 2 separate matches.

We beat Leeds in the Worthington Cup 3rd Round 2-1. Steve Yates OG put Leeds in front, Jags (with the aforementioned thunderbolt) and Ndlovu scored in 2 half stoppage time to win 2-1.

We also played them in the FA Cup the same season. 6th round? (whatever the round before the semis is called) and we won 1-0. Kabba smashed in with 13 minutes to go.

Vividly remember both of those matches. The FA Cup in particular, I couldn't go to as my mum and dad had to go to a wedding, and I wasn't allowed to go on my own, so stayed at home and watched in on Sky (when they still covered the FA Cup)

You're correct.

I missed the Worthington Cup one. Had just come out of hospital that afternoon following a twisted bollock (and yes, it fucking did!! 🤕)

The FA Cup was a Sunday morning i think. I was on the Kop. Kabba hit a first time volley into bottom corner. Brown nearly made it 2-0 with a reyt free kick, but it was tipped over.

My sons first game...

First for me: Don't recall - think it was 0-0 and Porterfield was the manager. I always want to say Hull, but have no idea.

First Away: Man City, Maine Road on Boxing Day. Lost 2-0. David White tore us apart. Just remember non-stop singing from the Blades in the 2nd half.

Worst: Take your pick. Every Wembley / Millennium Stadium visit. Carlisle away - lost 1-0 was particularly shite.

Best: Again, take your pick. Being on the North Stand at Swillsboro when D'Jaffo and Asaba scored. Forest play-off, O'Connell closing in (first time in tears at a game), Leeds away 4-0 and seeing Monty score :).. Some of the recent games away where I've taken my lad, crap games and results but really enjoyed the days.

I mean, it's never dull being a blade is it?

First - Probably vs Northampton - probably 1963 Doc Pace & Kettleborough era. First away - probably West Ham cup game we lost 0-5 - and my car overheated and broke down coming back up the M1. Worst vs Wigan to relegate us, 2007. Favourite vs Cardiff 1971 winning 5-1 in front of a raucous crowd, pretty well guaranteed promotiom.

First game - Derby at home in the FA Cup, Jan 1986. 0-1
First away game - Newcastle, November 1993. Lost 4-0
Worst - Port Vale at home, November 1999. Lost 3-1 in front of a crowd of less than 9,000.
Favourite - Forest Play Off Semi Final second leg, 2003. You know the score.

1st - Blades 3 -West Ham 0 April '79
1st Away - York 3 - Blades 4 October '81
Worst - So many but getting done away at Oxford 4-0 , absolutely freezing day , sticks in my mind .
Best - The usuals ,Darlington , Leicester, the Forest play off , again loads of them .
Flo scoring 2 in an away win at Anfield was a pretty good day too.

Edit, the Oxford may have been 3-0 , was too cold to care .

Northampton was 1st January 1966. There is footage of the match on YouTube

First - Late 60's or early 70's V Doncaster in the County Cup

First away - Mansfield in 1977 or 78 - 1-1. Got in just before half time after getting the train to Alfreton and the coppers wouldn't let us on any buses into Mansfield.

Worst - 1979 - Boxing Day at the sty.

Best -1990 - Leicester away. No description necessary.

First - last game of 82/83 season. Lincoln at home. Lost 1-0. Can’t remember anything about it.

First away - Rotherham away in the full members cup. 83/84. Morris scored only goal of the game in the first minute.

Worst - pigs at Wembley 93. No contest. Though I’ve been at 3 play off final defeats.

Best - pigs at home under Bassett. 2-0. Whitehouse and Deane. 14 years of waiting. School was great the next day!

First- 1981 0-1 v Walsall at Bramall Lane. Yes, really, THAT game. Welcome to football son, we'll start you at the very bottom.

First away- 1982 5-1 win at Halifax. Heard Halifax score the opener from a queue outside the ground. Stood on a grass banking with stuff being lobbed at us by the locals. Then the breeze block wall collapsed onto the speedway track.

Worst - All four Play off finals without even a single fucking goal to cheer. The Huddersfield game was like a bad joke. Terrible terrible game of football. Oh, and Bristol City away leg of the playoffs in 1988. Blades hot dog seller hats given out on the bus on the way there...awful experience on the away end right next to the Bristol fans and a runner through the park on the way out. Our old goalie ( and my first Blades hero) making save after save to keep them 1-0 up. Horrible day out.

Best - Despite the final score and the loons scrapping in front of me the FA Cup semi v Hull at Wembley was a pretty magic day out all told.

No play off semis or finals or cup semi finals for worst/favourite. Just Bramall Lane or other club’s stadiums. Try to avoid Pig games too. We all know the good and bad of those!

First game - Chesterfield at home, Jan 89. 1-3
First away game - Liverpool, December 1990. 0-2
Worst - Coventry at home, Boxing Day 91. Lost 0-3 and had to walk all the way home to the top of East Bank Rd
Favourite - Derby at home, Boxing Day 2018. 3-1. Best and most aggressive atmosphere I remember in a long time. (Honorable mention for the Leeds league cup game in 02)
1st game - against Notts County, I was around 5 years old, Warnock was their manager in their top flight season we lost 1-3 with Agana scoring, I can’t remember much apart from not being able to take a can of pop through the turnstiles and Simon Tracey rubbing my head… not sure why he wasn’t playing ?!

1st away - if friendlies count it would’ve been against Scunthorpe before I even went to a home game around 88/89 my grandad was something to do with their sponsors and it was complimentary. For a non friendly it would’ve been Birmingham in around 97/98 we drew 0-0 or 1-1

Worst game - where to start !! In the adkins season I think we were playing Shrewsbury and losing by a few goals, I’ve never felt so down about being a blade, I couldn’t see any light at the end of the 5 year league one tunnel at that point, I was missing a lot of home games and nobody would even take my season ticket for free.

Favourite - any of the last 4/5 home and away games during the league 1 promotion season, I wasn’t working at the time but somehow scraped a ticket to them all and ended up pissed at them all too.

These are just off the top of my head. We hate to love them.
